I live in Rural Ireland. I drive. I also enjoy a drink from time to time but I don't combine both. Glorifying the old days when a man (and it was mostly men) got behind the wheel after a feed of pints, not giving a damn for his safety or the safety of others is shameful.
I don't care how good a dog owner anyone might be or how well trained a dog is, but if you're walking them within proximity of other people, then keep your dog on a lead. The dog owner may not be remotely nervous but I'd wager that at least one person you walk by every day is.
Just watched
@StarTrek
III. Gets better every time. The Kirk/Sarek mind meld. The destruction of the Enterprise. The death of David (Shatner's reaction arguably his finest screen moment as Kirk). The resurrection of Spock. Christopher Lloyd chewing the scenery as Kruge. Epic.
If you're Irish and you take no satisfaction from that, you have my sympathies. That was absolutely wonderful. One of the great days in Lansdowne Road. Peter O'Mahony's finest hour. Heroic.

I'm 21lbs lighter than I was at the end of January 2019. I just ran 10K in 58 minutes. No headphones. No distractions. Just out for the sort of handy run I thought was well behind me. This pleases me - a lot!

Aidan O'Shea has played in seven senior All-Ireland Finals. What have those giving him grief on here achieved in a sporting sense? I can't imagine how disappointed he must feel about not yet winning a Celtic Cross but anyone who has reached that stage so often deserves respect.
RTE screening the British Royal Wedding makes little sense to me, including the fact that it will be broadcast via UK outlets widely available here. The All-Ireland Hurling champions began the defence of their title last night and only radio coverage was deemed sufficient.
The luck of this. Parking up while freezing fog ghosted through the city. The most atmospheric photo I've ever taken. My favourite personal 2022 snap.

Terribly sad to hear John Hume Jnr in New Ross last night at the
@JFK_SS
talking about his father's latest stint in hospital (six weeks and counting) and how illness has left John Snr recalling little if any of his towering political career. A truly great Irishman.
A supremely talented Irishwoman.

Safety measures? The car was going the wrong way on a motorway, travelling at excessive speed and had devastating consequences. This fatality cannot be attributed to flawed road design...

Imagine working the way Dr

Minor club game in Roscommon last night. (30 seconds in)
Every club in county has a coward. Let's stop this now before an officials life is in danger. Tougher action needed now before it's too late!

"An internal border that separates one part of a country from another is unacceptable." The words of Sir Jeffrey Donaldson (DUP). Wow. I just mean wow.
But what about physical distancing? If similar numbers had turned out, say, for a pro-life march today, imagine the vitriol on here? I say this as someone with a social conscience but who also hasn't seen a very close relative for almost three months.
A fond farewell to the
@munsterexpress
where I learned my trade and which I gave my all to over the past 20 years. A newspaper I will always have great affection and respect for.
I can't speak for anyone else who has ever presented a two-hour radio show but I had six hours of prep for it prior to going on air every week for almost 18 months. The notion of rocking up to the studio five minutes before airing is not reality for most presenters.
The English and French clubs demaded the undoing of the Heineken Cup. They now regularly send out weakened teams in the tournament that bent to their will. Yet somehow it's South Africa's fault.

Rewatching. The best bit about this Carlsberg ad is that the “Dog & Duck” team genuinely didn’t know who was starring in the other team. Their reaction is genuine
Down 33lbs since January 22nd. No fad eating plan at work. I've cut back on the less healthy stuff, have been eating more healthily too (mainly thanks to two of my nearest and dearest) and been way, way more active (walking and running). Never say never. Not being fat is fun.
I'm 23lbs lighter today than I was on Christmas Day. I've got work to do yet (have put on a little weight since early May) and know I've more pounds to drop. But daily life is easier when you're not as chunky. And what a pleasure to enjoy running again.
Some pretty disgusting tweets about Micheál Martin discussing the loss of his children during his 'Meaning Of Life' interview. I read a few earlier that I will not give further oxygen to here. Proof, as if any more were needed, that there's no depth some people won't stoop to.
Thanks once again to the hurlers of

No montage? Ah come on,
@RTEsoccer
, considering the way his international career ended in the same location, Liam Brady deserved a better send-off second time around than this...
The older I get, the more I realise my job, however much I enjoy it, doesn't define me. Lecturers never told us in college about the importance of downtime and taking your holidays fully. If I ever lecture again, I'll be beating that drum loudly.

Would legal advice have been sought if Pope Francis had decided to say Mass at

? A match for a man who died at 36 can't be played because of "the rules"? Imagine the goodwill that would have deservedly come the GAA's way if they'd staged this game?
If you're swearing at Under-12s you're coaching - that's right, Under-12s - then find another past time. I don't care if the know-all in the pub or outside the church on a Sunday says "ah but he's a great fella altogether". And don't give me this "part of the game" stuff.
If you're gloating over

tonight, what is wrong with you? If you're still playing politics when a man is in Intesive Care, I feel sorry for you. I reckon you need to re-evaluate a lot more than just your political perspective. But that's just what I think.
I was born here. I've lived all but four years of my life here. I've worked here for 22 years and that's something I am so thankful for.

, my little corner of the Earth, is an easy sell. I love this place.
Saw a scoreline included in some notes yesterday and deleted it. A juvenile team being battered by another juvenile doesn't need all the digits included. PROs should have more sense.
Job done. I completed the

Where is the harm in Leo Varadkar rejoining the Medical Register? Whether it's a PR exercise or not isn't going to matter to those he gets to assess, I would have thought. Senator Maire Devine (SF) recently re-registered as a nurse, something which was widely welcomed.
Sad news from the

. Credit as always to the search and rescue services for their invaluable levels of dedication over the past 24 hours. RIP.
More sad news this evening. Liam Cahill was a gentleman and a trusted colleague to so many down through the years. Condolences to his family and those who knew and loved him best. RIP.
“Ireland imprisoned or incarcerated one per cent of its population during the 20th Century,” said UCD’s Katherine O’Connell at the 2018 launch of the Justice For Magdalenes Research (JFMR) Archive. “More than any other country in the last century. More than Soviet Russia."
The population of Dublin (one inter-county team; €18m in funding from 07-18) is 1.4 million approximately. The population of Munster is 1.3 million approx (six inter-county teams; €6.1m in funding from 07-18). But the big problem is begrudgery to the Dubs...

Philip Mahony walked off the Semple Stadium sod. He couldn't have known for sure he'd just broken a tibia. When he got onto his feet, it appeared from my vantage point that he didn't want to go off. His attitude in club and county colours has always been exemplary. A rock.

An agreed Ireland might be achieved if we somehow ever manage to get beyond slogans. Just as loyalists cannot extinguish what it means for anyone to profess their Irishness, we cannot wish Britishness out of the North, nor those of the Unionist tradition, out of existence.
The John Drennan piece in the Mail, describing how Minister Foley "kept unions quiet" and labelling it "a magnificent achievement" reads like something meant to annoy teachers. Well it has succeeded on that front. That wouldn't be my means of measuring a Minister's success rate.
A poignant moment as a retired member of the defence forces,who had waited patiently, walks to the roadside to salute his fallen comrade. He respectfully straightens his blue beret and green jacket before giving Private Séan Rooney his salute.
