On Aug 13 1922 Met Bishop Benjamin was killed. At trial the Petrograd Provincial Revolutionary Tribunal announced that he and nine other clergy would be shot. And when the judge asked if he wanted to say something, he said: Glory to Thee, O Lord, glory to Thee for all things!

Stalin demolished it in the 1930s along with thousands of other churches.
Holy Trinity Church has announced that OCA priest Fr Moses Berry fell asleep in the Lord overnight. He was a true servant of God who spread joy and peace. May his memory be eternal!
In the 80’s Monk James opened his home to AIDS victims, to care for them so they could die in peace. The hospitals and their families didn’t want them. Please remember the soul of Fr. James (Langston), abbot of Sts Cosmos and Damian, who fell asleep in the Lord yesterday.
Do unbaptized babies go to hell? St John Chrysostom says they are innocent and God receives them as such.
Quoting the Wisdom of Sirach, ‘‘The souls of the just are in the hands of God’ and so also are the souls of children for they also are not wicked.’

Unfortunately, some still claim to be Orthodox but promote non-Orthodox/patristic beliefs.

In 1922 the Petrograd Provincial Revolutionary Tribunal announced that Metr Benjamin and nine would be shot. When the presiding judge asked him to say something about himself, he said ‘Glory to Thee, O Lord, glory to Thee for all things.’
This is the Sunday of the Prodigal Son. And this is one of my favorites icons. When my wife and I were inquirers - struggling to accept that God would forgive us - a priest took this very icon right off his wall and gave it for us to keep. It holds a special place in my heart.
Ancient 5th century Christian wisdom on the six stages of temptation 🧵
1 PROVOCATION προσβογή. An initial stimulation in the heart, which originates from spiritual warfare. Provocations assail a person independent of free will. One is NOT morally responsible for them….1/7
On May 3 the Church remembers the Baptism by Blood of St Ahmed the Calligrapher who was martyred in 1682 without ever receiving any formal Christian sacraments. 1/5
Many of us have done tremendous damage to our minds and souls over the years.
Advice from St Gregory of Sinai (d1346):
To cure th[e] memory of the deceitful and harmful thoughts means to bring it back to its ancient simplicity. The weapon of evil, transgression, 1/3

I asked Fr Jacob to pray for my unborn child. He asked for a name. I told him we had chosen one - but couldn’t tell him that day because we had promised to tell family first. “That’s fine. I’ll just pray for Nathaniel”Nathaniel was the name we had picked!! How did he know?! 3/9
Today is the anniversary of the repose of Archpriest Jacob Myers from pneumonia in 2013. Fr Jacob once had a moment of clairvoyance with me. And his prayers helped my son. Father Jacob, if you have found favor with God, please pray for us. Memory Eternal! 1/9
WARNING ⚠️
Some online Orthodox content producers are schoolyard bullies who never grew up
They were feral children, neglected by parents, raising themselves entirely online
They don’t know how else to act.
They only know how to be vulgar.
They can’t be any other way.
AVOID
One of the most powerful spiritual medicines is to pray through all the Psalms every week - half an hour everyday / 3.5 hours per week to complete the Psalter each week.
Psalms were the core of the prayer book of the early church.
Memorize as many as you can.
Young inquirers, our Orthodox bishops are not like resented school principals.
If you mock or disrespect them, I will block you.
If you encounter online subcultures that take this attitude, please avoid them.
Some of you, clergy, know in your hearts that you are being called to the Orthodox Church.
And you will not know peace until you leave your current tradition and enter the Orthodox Church.
This will affect income and career, and require some sacrifice from you and your family.
My father David peacefully fell asleep in the Lord this evening, with mom and I beside him. Pray that God will grant him rest and blessed repose among the saints, pardoning all his transgressions, and establishing him in the mansions of the righteous. Thank you for your prayers.
That Amazing Race episode where contestants had to go to an Orthodox church in Greece, listen to the priest give a sermon and then find a St Nicholas icon.
This is the Sunday of the Prodigal Son. And this is one of my favorites from our icon corner. When my wife and I were still inquirers - struggling to accept that God would actually forgive us - a priest took the icon right off his wall and gave it to us.
One of the clearer markers of de-Christianization (with the allowances made for it by many Christian churches representing their collaboration in that process):
Relics ARE Biblical
Once as a man was being buried, a marauding band was seen and the man was cast into the grave of Elisha; and as soon as the man touched the bones of Elisha, he revived, and stood on his feet.

Back recently after being offline a couple weeks for the St Herman of Alaska Pilgrimage. It was beautiful. I hope everyone someday can make this spiritually rewarding journey. For those considering the St Herman of Alaska pilgrimage, here's a How-To and What-to-Expect 🧵 1/
Here’s how the Orthodox greet an Orthodox priest.
1 We don’t shake his hand
2 We approach the priest cupping right hand over left, bow slightly and say "Father, bless"
3 He will make sign of crossover you, and place his right hand in yours

Say ‘Orthodoxy’ or ‘the Orthodox Church’. Try to avoid qualifiers like Russian or Greek that inadvertently limit the scope of the Church. Orthodoxy is Catholic/Universal and for all. Let hierarchs worry about jurisdictions. In the Eschaton there will only be The One True Church.

My wife’s godmother was a Protestant who married an Orthodox.
She visited a monastery in Greece.
Upon entering the ossuary, she was overcome by a beautiful other worldly smell.
The smell was coming *from the bones*
The Hieromonk baptized her that very weekend.
We receive RC clergy through confession and vesting in the altar (as was done with St Alexis of Wilkes-Barre) because we *do* acknowledge their apostolic succession.
So many Orthokids claim they long for the absolute authority of a monarch. But when their bishop exercises his authority and requires masks for communion they run around whining and switch to other jurisdictions. I don’t really believe their monarchism.
Orthodox Clergy, please pray for Michael at the Table of Oblation. He still has a long road to recovery ahead of him. May God grant him healing and strength as he learns a new way of life.
My body is broken.
My legs are gone, my backside is burnt to a crisp and gaping gashes line both sides of it, my right tricep and side have been cut off, the skin of my arms are peeled off revealing the flesh underneath.
This is gonna take long to heal 😰
St Isaac the Syriac, Bishop of Nineveh (+700) was from Qatar - known at the time as Beth Qatraye. Here are pics from my last visit to the Orthodox church in Qatar - which is named for Sts Isaac and George.
One of the most painful things we have to do as clergy is to turn away at the chalice one who wishes to partake of the Eucharist.
We certainly want you to become a regularly communing member who prepares with confession and fasting.
Meet with the priest. Make it happen.
Memory Eternal! I am deeply grateful for HE Met Kallistos, his books and the times I spent with him. His books led me to love the Faith. He taught in person our catechism classes. My devout Protestant father met him in Cambridge and came away saying ‘Man, that guy loves Jesus!’
Please become Orthodox.
