Chef/Small Biz Owner: I cook and write about food and small business. Bay Area Sports Homer. Fed up with the status quo. Tweeting about food, politics, sports.
San Francisco is an amazing city. We will fight to be back in a good place. But if you are one of those people out there that calls everyone that has a critical word for us a “MAGA Republican” you’re part of the problem. Our city is in a very bad way. Our whole State is.
Hi
@GavinNewsom
and
@RobBonta
I’d like to personally thank you both for throwing our lives into upheaval. We will now need to reevaluate every single aspect of doing business in our restaurants in CA including but not limited to: employee benefits, compensation, menu size, labor
This is peak SF self righteous bullshit. So now police can’t eat in uniform? Fuck that. That’s discriminations. It’s funny how it’s only offensive when it happens to groups that you identify with.
BREAKING: Restaurant in SF refuses service to two SFPD officers yesterday 12/3, stating their presence made staff (and perhaps guests) uncomfortable. Hilda and Jesse on Union St. Here’s their response: 👇
(3/3) I believe the vast majority of San Franciscans welcome their police officers, who deserve to know that they are appreciated for the difficult job we ask them to do — in their uniforms — to keep our neighborhoods and businesses safe.
Fun anecdote for SF. Yesterday in front of chase center a 60ish year old white guy yelled at two 40ish year old black women who were holding Yes on H signs. He said “this is republican propaganda bullshit!” The women politely replied- “we’re actually democrats.
#RecallChesa
I find the selective outrage by some of our elected officials in SF about a security guard killing a shoplifter to be pretty ironic. They seem to have no problem with the mass murder happening with open air drug markets in SF everyday. I can’t give a intelligent opinion as to if
Im born and raised in CA. I moved back to CA to start a business. I love CA for a lot of reasons. It breaks my heart to say that CA is failing us. SF as a city is failing us. LA is failing it’s citizens. People are leaving. Businesses are leaving. Taxes are high. Quality is low.
San Francisco has some incredible potential. The problems we have are so much bigger then our potential at this point. We need to vote out anyone who isn’t about safety, housing, small business, and education. Those are the basics. Everything else can build on top.
60% of the restaurant chefs and owners I speak to everyday are heavily considering or already making plans to leave SF. The city needs to start considering where it’s tax base comes from and take a look at how entire city blocks of north beach were vacant pre pandemic.
What is just mind blowing is the alignment of the extreme left (now just called progressives) with Hamas…. I mean strange bedfellows am I right? I wonder if Hamas finish their emails with pronouns? I mean they probably care about the DEI right? Women’s rights? Gay rights? Oh
We are very close to the public taking these things into their own hands. If the City and the DA won’t keep us safe then we will start to see people protecting themselves. Don’t believe me? Go to a local gun shop... sold out. We need a major change now.
I’ve taken a few months without mentioning
@DeanPreston
because I wanted to give him a proper chance to do a good job. After yesterday’s land use meeting I am just appalled by his lack of care for the small biz community. We have gone through hell and back and he won’t support us
I am so deeply frustrated right now. We made small business quite literally pay for everyone's safety, but we can't move expeditiously to help them recover. We tie them up in knots, we make it impossible for them to start new businesses, then we complain when only the wealthy do.
This is what’s wrong with SF. This guys knows what he’s saying is bullshit and doesn’t care because it feeds his narrative -if you don’t agree with lawless streets with no consequences for crime then you are a Trump supporter. False equivalence doesn’t even start to explain.
The anti-Chesa narrative being pushed by the right/trumpers in SF is disingenuous trash. A man on parole DUI'd killing 2 people - a terrible tragedy by any measure. The narrative - he was arrested in SF and Chesa set him free! The truth - this is the same in most counties. /1
This is the realist shit I’ve heard from a SF politician in a while. I’m glad to see
@LondonBreed
pissed off here. Rightly so. She grew up here and knows what we are experiencing. It’s time for our BOS and DA to figure it the fuck out. WE ARE ALL PISSED.
Watch:
@LondonBreed
addresses San Francisco’s public safety crisis.
“It’s time that the reign of criminals who are destroying our city…come to an end."
"It comes to an end when we take the steps to be more aggressive w/ law enforcement…and less tolerant of all the bullshit."
Add this to a long list of really bad takes that this supervisor has. Never hear anything from him about how families feel unsafe walking down the streets of SF because of crime and drugs but, he weighs in on people feeling unsafe in a restaurant with police officers there to eat
@michelletandler
We can’t spend our way out of bad policy. We need to take a sober look at how we spend money in this city and reprioritize. When the avg student gets 1/8th of the avg homeless person our values are out of wack.
Tonight, for the fifteenth (15th) time in 18 months, and the 3rd time in 20 days, we are booking the same suspect at county jail for felony motor vehicle theft. This motorcycle, stolen yesterday, recovered by TL cops and returned to its very grateful owner tonight. See thread.
Something that has struck me about SF politics is the fact that I’ve meet about 2 republicans. I’m baffled that this city is unilaterally ran by democrats but, they can’t get anything done. This is a perfect example of the infighting that goes on. This is what pushes people away
@SFDemocrats
refused to charter our new
@WestsideFamilyD
club at its last meeting. Despite being lifelong Democratic activists, we were accused of being DINOs and pro-segregation, & taking Republican money, among other wild and false allegations.
@NoahCRothman
Marinate in soy, garlic, lime, a little sugar in a zip lock bag for 6 hours.
Grill it to medium. Slice thin against the grain and on a steep angle. Then you can either serve hot or cool and eat as a steak salad. Maybe with green papaya, raw cabbage, onion, daikon, pea shoots...
I’m voting for
@VallieBrownD5
for my supervisor. She understands what San Francisco needs right now. She is the right candidate for supervisor right now. She will work with our mayor
@LondonBreed
to effectively push the city towards success. She is a common sense candidate.
I’ll just be here waiting patiently for the same elected officials to be a calling for murder charges in the case of a security guard just doing their job and getting shot to death. I’m sure they will exhibit the same level of outrage as I’ve seen earlier this week.
2) Before San Francisco prosecutor Brooke Jenkins quit last week, she regularly took on the city's most violent offenders.
She says DA Chesa Boudin frequently gives dangerous criminals a "free pass."
"What he has proven is that his approach is much more radical."
WATCH:
San Francisco could be one of the greatest cities in the world but, until we make criminals feel some fear of repercussion for these brazen acts we will remain a city that people question coming to visit or live.
ARMED SUSPECTS SMASH & GRAB: Witness who sent me this video says the two suspects seen in this video were breaking into cars in SF and then stopping to empty victim’s belongings. When a neighbor tried to intervene, witness says the suspects pointed a gun at them
@kron4news
So HANC (Haight Ashbury Neighborhood) group wants you to vote no on H. LISTEN UP... THIS IS CLASSIC SF BULLSHIT. This is everything that’s wrong with SF. These people want the right to completely derail small business and usually ends with extortionary practices. VOTE
#YESONH
Does anyone else find it ironic that the same city that effectively tried to strangle
@bchesky
‘s business a few years ago is now looking for a hand out? Miss me with this whole “sf gave you a platform” bullshit too. The city needs a wholesale change on how they treat biz.
Watch the video. This dude represents everything that’s wrong with politics in America. They think that liberty and justice isn’t for all… it’s only for yours.
Dean Preston’s supporters ruin San Francisco and victimize Asian Americans
We are going to vote out Dean Preston and his friends (Peskin, Chan, Walton, Melgar, Ronen, Fielder) in November 2024
I was born and raised in the Bay Area. Moving back to SF to build a business mere blocks from where my mothers office has been for over 30 years. I am here to fight for what this city can really accomplish. We have all the potential but, our city is corrupt and hurting.
The
@GrowSF
newsletter is the most accurate and informative newsletter that SF offers. Really concise and measured info. I highly recommend signing up for it. As always- I reserve the right to disagree with them in the future but, they are pretty spot on so far. Keep it up.
@SenSanders
We have to break up this type of factory farming in the US. It’s bad for our health and the environment. We need to put money in the hands of small and medium size ranchers and farmers.
Can I get an honest response here from someone who has an issue with public bathrooms? I can’t understand what the opposition would be to more 24hour restrooms if we are all complaining about human waste on the streets… I think this should absolutely stay and be expanded.
There were aspects of pandemic response that were common sense and that worked: slow streets, shelter in place hotels, worker protections, and 24/7 public bathrooms.
These bathrooms received close to a million uses over the last year. They should stay.
I agree. I don’t always agree with
@MattHaneySF
but I will support him now. He has always been respectful to me and engaged in good faith. He has never attacked me for disagreeing with him. He has even taken my calls to chat. I hope everyone comes out to vote for him.
You know, I haven’t always supported everything
@MattHaneySF
does, but the tired, lazy, and worn out trope in SF politics from establishment “Progs” that all our disagreements are fueled by “big evil shadowy monied interests” is the most irritating sloppy attack there is.
Can I get a history lesson? Has any city ever scrapped everything and started from scratch? Laws, budgets, employment structure, departments, everything. If there were ever a case San Francisco would be it. One party and can’t get anything done. Finger wagging, virtue signaling.
Thank you to the voters in San Francisco that helped us get a massive win for Small Businesses by voting Yes on prop h! This is just the first step. SF has become nearly impossible to do business in over the passed 10 years. It’s time that we address that.
@SfYesonH
@GOPLeader
@realDonaldTrump
This bill doesn’t help the restaurant industry nearly enough for us to survive. We need the restaurant act and nothing less. Also $600 per person is SHAMEFUL. Why can’t we fix this so people who don’t need it don’t get it and the ones that do get much more?
We did it! Real targeted relief for the restaurant industry. All of us at the
@IndpRestaurants
fought for this everyday. $28.5B is short of our goal but, we won’t stop fighting until independent restaurants are all taken care of. This is just the beginning.

Her opponent has spent his time trying to actively work against anything the mayor is working towards. The mayor that our city elected to do a job. Our neighborhood and our city have gotten worse during his time in office. Our mayor needs the support of the BOS to be effective.
It’s absolutely wild the amount of straight up Jew hatred and antisemitism I’ve witnessed and experienced on social media over the last week. I have always known that Jews will always be the worlds scapegoat but, this week has confirmed it to me.
The answer is simple. SF believes that the whims of the very few more then the needs of many. We need to re-evaluate everything about how SF civics and government work. It’s just not working for most of us.
My latest: Why does supposedly environmentally conscious San Francisco allow one person to freeze the eco-friendly projects we desperately need? Slow Streets, special bus lanes and more are on hold because two people don’t like them. What a dumb process.
Let it be known that the California Restaurant Association completely threw us all under the buss. We have no one fighting for us at the state level and this is the outcome. If you are a member of the CRA you should cancel your membership immediately. Save your money- you’ll need
@DeanPreston
Blocking her choices for SFMTA and the Police Commission are pretty recent. Blocking any housing that isn’t 100% affordable and also all union labor. It’s not just you Dean. But you are my supervisor and I expect more work to be collaborative. She was elected by the city.
This is a note to the SF board of supervisors. If you aren’t actively supportive of helping small business thrive in SF you don’t actually care about the fabric of our city. We are frustrated and we are getting organized. Now is the time to act.
The surcharge or “junk fee” at Che Fico has allowed us to offer a 401k with a 4% match. It allowed us to profit share with the staff. It allowed us to raise wages and hire more people.

Completely agree w/
@AndrewYang
- my experience over the last year connecting with my working class friends (mostly black and latin) is that they feel like the dems look down on everyday folks. They are turned off by the culture war and care about dinner table issues.
@ItsMannyJ
The relief “deal” is trash. Please don’t let anyone in the government spin it as anything but, weak tea. The failure to secure the restaurant act will have massive repercussions. $600 for checks is a joke. PPP is just a way to funnel more cash to large corporations.
District Attorney Chesa Boudin not only had a hard time making eye contact with me (it’s why I had to tell him to look in my direction)— he also grew impatient while I set up my question.

I wrote my very first published op ed with the help and patience of

please read it and consider sharing. I break down the needs of the restaurant industry to bounce back and comeback from the brink of death!
Yesterday I issued an Executive Order to City departments to immediately implement Proposition H, my Save our Small Businesses ballot measure, within 30 days.
Our small businesses need help now, which is why we're not waiting to put Prop H into action.
I just voted today and I voted for
@stuffonfire
for Bart Director. I think he will bring the change that’s needed to let people feel safe on Bart again.
Shameful that he makes 10x what the average restaurant worker makes paid for by their taxes then they can’t get home safe because of his inability to do his job. Shameful.
District Attorney Chesa Boudin is calling on Mayor London Breed to remedy a “severe” staffing shortage in his office that threatens to harm criminal prosecutions unless key positions are filled.

Don’t blame you? Dude that weak. It’s literally your job and it seems like drug dealers have never fealt more impervious to the law. So yeah we can blame you especially when you don’t make us feel safe in our city.
In SF it’s is easy to call anyone that has a different approach to homelessness and addiction a “conservative” or a “republican”. It’s a false narrative. Many of us are democrats and want there to be common sense services given to those in need while we get drugs off our streets.
I'm a Democrat. Actually, I'm liberal. But when it comes to homelessness and drug addiction, I freely admit that my lived experience has changed the way I look at this specific issue. Why? Because addiction is the most selfish disease in existence. It takes away everything.
Supes: Do you support the DA’s position on not deporting drug dealers back to their country of origin? Also are you satisfied with the system that is allowing them back on the streets within days of an arrest to kill more people?
@MattHaneySF

@HillaryRonen
So today the restaurants act was added to the new bill to be passed by the house! Thank you to
@SpeakerPelosi
@repblumenauer
and everyone that fought tooth and nail for this. Now we need the senate to come to the table and recognize that restaurants are a bipartisan issue.
We are so grateful to
@SpeakerPelosi
for prioritizing independent restaurants in this new proposal, and for the tireless leadership of RESTAURANTS Act sponsors
@RepBlumenauer
and
@RepBrianFitz
who have spearheaded efforts to pass this bill since June.
So moving forward I will not stay silent to save my ass in fears of retribution from those in elected office. I won’t be intimidated by career politicians who want nothing more then to retain power. I’ll speak out on behalf of my city and what our people really need. Quality.
Shutting our restaurants again. Taking care of our staff’s well-being and mental but, financially this is crippling. When is
@SenSchumer
going to step up and help us refill the

??? When are elected officials going to do their jobs?
@IndpRestaurants
This coming November for those that vote in SF please know that you DO NOT NEED to put a second choice and in fact it is detrimental to your first choice. Vote for the one person you really want and leave the rest blank!
@DeanPreston
All due respect Dean but, the evidence over the last couple years is to the contrary. I don’t want a “rubber stamp” but, it’s clear that the BOS has worked against the mayor. Many of us are very frustrated with how our city fails to act and now we need a change.
“Giving offense is the price of diversity, not an impediment to diversity, while more and more schools are teaching young people how not to be offensive, they also need to be teaching a new generation how not to be offended.” -
@IrshadManji
we need more of this.
Just so we are clear: any relief package that doesn’t have the restaurant act, is throwing independently owned restaurants under the bus. PPP doesn’t work for us when we are forced to stay shut or can’t operate more than to go food. So tomorrow when Congress passes this bill...
It was an honor to have

For those of you that get dizzy reading bullshit- let me paraphrase: She doesn’t give a shit how this makes you feel. It only matters if it matches her virtue signaling meter.
As a community member, I support our Asian American communities and know the pain they are feeling. As a teacher, I understand how this impacts our students and families. As school board president, I know my responsibility is to model restorative justice.
There is something chilling about this. We can’t be up and arms when Trump does it and then turn a blind eye when it’s on the left.

Matt- rent is a tiny part. I think you’re aware of that. My partner and sister have passed on multiple deals that would include massive financial incentives because we don’t feel comfortable sending staff to work in that part of town. That should be the # 12345 priorities.
If this isn’t taken WAY MORE SERIOUSLY by our law enforcement and community people will start getting shot on the spot. I don’t want this to be true but, when people feel scared they will protect themselves. We need more action.

I don’t work for the Mayor. You voted to keep it from moving forward, and I did not hear any assurance that what we get in the end will work for us. We’re dying and you were talking about making it so we can’t offer table reservations or serve alcohol in parklets.

I have always been a liberal but, the left has a cancer and it’s called antisemitism. They can openly chant and call for the massacre of Jews. What other ethnic group would this be allowed? For a group that feels that misgendering is an act of violence it really has to take a
We can do more and feed more people with more help. As it stands we don’t really turn people away even if they weren’t able to get on the list. It doesn’t matter to me if someone was homeless last month or making 6 figures. If they need a meal they get one. We are here for you.
Guys let’s be very clear. SF is ready to move in another direction. This crap is why our city is in complete gridlock. We have to stand up together and fight the fake progressives here that only care about their own ends. To be progressive you must want progress.
Disappointing. There *has* been community engagement including public BoS committee & Small Business Commission hearings. Small biz has been begging for this. No mention of biggest benefit: reducing the average permit wait time from 10 months to 30 days. We need more small biz!
What have I been saying? Very soon this will become a trend. The public will take their safety into their own hands. Now when the folks doing the patrol feel in danger for their own lives you’ll see some physical attractions. If the Mayor’s of the Bay Area don’t act fast, danger.
Do you really want to open the can of worm about funding schools? The same schools that were kept closed by a school board you fully support? Even as one of them went on a racist Twitter blaze?
