I’m someone that is:
- LGBTQ+
- Working class
- Private renter
- Previously on benefits
- Travels by train
- Will receive no inheritance
- Would like a shop less than 15 mins away
I’ve been blamed for bloody everything this Tory Party Conference 😂
Julia Hartley-Brewer calling herself a feminist and then slagging off Carole Vorderman for having the audacity to be attractive and incredibly intelligent.
We really are going backwards
As someone that actually grew up in poverty, there’s a multitude of ways to break that cycle. A lot of them in the Labour manifesto.
I want an end to the 2 child benefit cap, but it won’t end poverty overnight. A lot are being very disingenuous to attack the Lab gov tonight.
On Sunday we could make history by selecting Eddie as our Labour candidate. They're the right person for the job and what a message it would send around the world 🙌
Next Monday the Brighton Pavilion Greens will wake up knowing who they will face in the General Election. They don’t want it to be me because they know I’ll beat them. Brighton is special to me. I’ve been a fighter all my life, now I want to fight for Brighton in parliament.
Every LGBTQ+ person knows that family is not always the best protectors. Our homes are not always the safest spaces.
Stuff like this is dangerous and backwards
Parents are the best protectors of their children. Exposing children to sexualised material & keeping it secret from parents is a safeguarding risk.
My piece in
@Telegraph
today on why we need a legal right for parents to view sex education materials👇
Fantastic to have

in Brighton today!
We’re in the last week of the campaign now.

I fell in love with politics when I was 17. As someone from a background in poverty, politics impacted me but felt it wasn’t for me
2023 couldn’t have proved me more wrong
Being elected was lovely, but changing things for people for the better has been a dream come true
Got some abuse on this post, was a bit confused why and realised it was because of the picture saying trans rights are human rights.
Twitter is not a serious platform. All of these people hide behind faceless profiles. They’re cowards.
Here’s hoping 2024 is the end of Twitter

The vast majority of schools will be unaffected by RAAC.
For those that are affected, we are working non-stop to mitigate any disruption to education, and protect pupils and staff.

This is a complete mess that was easily foreseeable by the Green Party.
A mess for London and a stark warning to Brighton Pavillion. I think our residents deserve more.
NEW:
Green Party London Assembly Member Sian Berry has resigned her seat just 3 days after winning it.
She is also the Green Party's candidate for Brighton Pavilion in the General Election.
We really need to start holding smaller parties to account on their manifesto.
The Green Party just announced a policy platform that ranges from well meaning to naive to utter nonsense.
It’s the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement today.
You’ll see a lot of posts of men, but take some time to remember the huge impact that Mo Mowlam had on the whole negotiation.

A huge new MRP poll from
@BestForBritain
puts
@UKLabour
on as many as 470 seats in the next election! 🗳️
But no room for complacency as hung parliament territory looms in a worst-case scenario.
Labour today understands class and disadvantage in a way that I've not felt in the 15 years of being a member. The policies announced already will transform this country for people like me.
I find it very disingenuous to see people leave the party and call us "tory-lite" 🤨
The whole discourse of trans healthcare needs to fundamentally change. We need to look at every case individually with care and respect.
The people that matter are the children and their families, we shouldn’t be making sweeping decisions based off conservative attack lines.
News on Victoria Atkins' emergency puberty blockers ban. Wes Streeting's position is that, subject to the outcome of the court proceedings and consultation, he will renew it and convert it into a permanent ban.

I was born one constituency over from Rutherglen. For 16 years I’ve watched Labour votes go to the SNP.
It’s almost surreal to see such a huge swing back to Labour 👏🏽👏🏽

I was 14 when I wrote my mum a letter telling her I was gay and bolted out the door to school.
It’s not always that simple for people, but whether it’s 14 or 41 you can’t be fully happy until you live life as your authentic self ❤️
Brighton and Hove has the highest number of LGBT+ people in the country.

Listening to the Green candidate talking about their record in councils, but conveniently leaving out Brighton and Hove 👀
How did that go Carla?

Great to be out in Portslade this morning! Thank goodness the rain stopped for us.
We’re just a few days away from the by-election on the 11th. Hugely positive reception for
@JoshGuilmant
If you want a measure of how rotted the current political dialogue is, even in Brighton and Hove supporting Eddie Izzard in the candidate selection has led me to get an entire week of abuse from those who hate trans people
We'll look back on this and be ashamed and embarrassed
To the people of Brighton: your support has been my strength. Despite this setback, my love and commitment to you and our shared ideals remain steadfast.
My post-selection statement:
I don’t think I’ve seen so many Conservative voters coming over to Labour. Great morning in Shoreham campaigning on

Our middle park in Whitehawk is finally reopening!
The contractor Eibe Play put a faulty floor that had families (and me) covered in a black stain. They refused to pay a penny to fix it, but our petition brought them back to the table!
By mid-August we will have our park back

Pathetic Tory Cllr Anne Meadows saying that we already do enough for domestic abuse survivors will go down as one of the worst things I’ve heard as a councillor
I had to testifying against a man who physically abused my mother when I was 10. I’m beyond angry at these comments
It was a very late one for our first Full Council.
But I’m immensely proud that the first motion I’ve brought to the table has been to make a protected characteristic of people with care experience.
I meant it when I said it. Everyone in this city deserves a fair chance ❤️
Even though the hard work has already begun, I think the name plate means I’m officially a councillor!
It was a real honour to be at our first full council meeting. As my mum would say, not too bad for a boy from a council estate in Priesthill 🙋🏼♂️
There was a time the arts were an option for working class kids. The Tories have made it all but impossible and it is now an industry filled with inherent privilege
We’re missing a lot of unique and talented kids by denying them a route into the arts
“I went [to Art school] because the government of the day paid for me to go and I didn’t have to pay them back” - Peter Capaldi. Things really were better in the past and we now seem to have become a society that only exists to serve the needs of the rich
It was quite emotional having everyone come together tonight for

Absolute honour to read some of the names we’ve lost in Brighton and Hove ❤️
I’d walk on hot coals for John Hewitt because he’d do the same for residents in Hangleton.
And Hangleton deserves the best.
I’ve loved being out with
@Handklabour
and their amazing candidates this week 😅
Got to love Brighton, just getting on the bus and the driver shouts “I thought you were Dec from Ant and Dec for a second. Though what’s he doing getting the bus at this time.”
Every day is a humbling experience 😅

As someone that grew up on free school meals, I’m so proud of this Labour administration for introducing a policy to give kids on free school meals a greater choice in the school they go to

I am the Mike Wazowski of canvassing session pictures 😅
Such a positive reaction on the doorstep in Hove today. Still canvassing for every vote in Brighton and Hove 🌹

🎆NEW YEAR, NEW MEGAPOLL!🍾
Today on Sunday Times front page, our poll of 10000+ people finds Britain has run out of patience with Rishi Sunak.
- Most want an early election
- Most would vote tactically
- Sunak top choice to be PM in only 4 seats!

Rental markets in Brighton are in a critical state. I've just left a flat with intense rising damp, that results in mould growing over clothes etc.
We spent hours cleaning the flat as best we could only for the landlord to claim £1000 for cleaning
Truly disgusting!
Seeing people say Labour shouldn't be at Pride events this year
Political parties are a mix of many ideologies and beliefs. Not everyone is the enemy, we need to start building connections and ties even when we don't agree 100%.
We need to educate not isolate ourselves
Absolutely lovely to spend sometime celebrating
@TPrideBrighton
10th anniversary with a reception in the Mayors parlour.
There’s a lot of work to be done to keep our trans community safe, but the work done by the team at Trans Pride is a sign of hope for so many ❤️🏳️⚧️
If anyone wants a lesson on what gaslighting is, listen to the Chancellor Jeremy Hunt tell us how brilliant everything is while the economy is in tatters and we're all skint.
They just don't get it 🤦♂️
#Budget2024
Our policy proposal to give kids on free school meals a greater choice in schools is our first big policy to tackle inequality. The first council in the entire country
Special mention to
@DivideClass
for pushing for action on inequality for so long 👏🏽
My heart goes out to anyone listening to this Rishi Sunak speech right now 🥲
It is honestly the wildest, most pointless and ridiculously boring speech he's done so far!
The Green Party has laid down the first 10 steps the new Labour government must take in their first 100 days to show they’re serious about changing Britain ⤵️
What do you want to see them do first?
Very honoured to be taking on the Chair of Licensing in our Labour administration 🙋🏼♂️
After spending the last year as lead on the nighttime economy I’m filled with ideas.
Fantastic team for our first Labour cabinet 👏🏽
There’s sometimes you have to have reasoned debates, and there’s other you have to call out the malicious crap these people talk.
Pantomimes have had dames in them for hundreds of years. Shakespeare had men playing women in the 1500s.
Stop the culture war rubbish Douglas!
It’s totally inappropriate to hold a show like this for kids under the age of six.
Story time for babies and young kids shouldn’t focus on gender or sexual identity.
That is common sense and on behalf of constituents who’ve contacted me, I’ve raised this with the council.
EMA changed my life.
I was a 16 year old in a family that had never been to uni. I didn’t think it was for me. But that incentive to stay on made uni a possibility and helped me out of poverty.
It’s the difference Labour can make. Not a campaign slogan, just the truth.
In Wales, the education maintenance is being increased to £40 per week to support students through the cost-of-living crisis.
In England, the UK Government has failed to support students & young people with increasing costs.
That's the difference Labour makes in Government.
Well the campaign is over
It’s been a very intense but fantastic 5 months. It’s been a genuine honour for so many to give me their time and thank you ❤️
The next 4 days is about getting our Labour supporters out. Thank you so much to everyone who came and helped out and who’ve canvassed with me on the way ❤️

It’s been a lovely turnout hearing voices from across the community. Another reminder of what makes this city special 🏳️⚧️
The school he went to was £5,333 per term, the idea that you can work a little bit harder and your kids can go to private school is utter nonsense.
My mum worked her arse off 6 days a week just to get by.
All that money spent on education to write class divisive drivel…
In all the happiness of yesterday, we had some amazing people who missed out by inches.
@lundy_li
@tomchatfield18
@benphilipsborn

I doubt it’s the last time I’ll be campaigning for them ❤️

Mute has been a God send!
On Sunday we could make history by selecting Eddie as our Labour candidate. They're the right person for the job and what a message it would send around the world 🙌
It is a shame we won't have the Christmas markets this year, but the last few years haven't worked. I think that is something we can all agree on.
We're better to do something right, not just for the sake of it
