Carlos Alcaraz won his match against Marin Cilic at 2.24am. He came to a press conference at 3am. After eating, warming down and any treatment, probably gets to bed about 6am. Tennis is the only sport that does this. It should actively try to find a way to stop doing it.

It could have been so simple. 1) Get vaccinated, Novak, like 97 of the other Top 100. 2) Have a rule that says you get vaccinated or you don’t play (unless your reason is so acute, and so beyond doubt that nobody sensible can dispute it).

Rome comes to a close. Brilliant tournament, great champions. Final note, for now, on prize money. Iga Swiatek won the WTA 1000 title and got €322,260. Couple of hours later, same court: Stefanos Tsitsipas lost the ATP 1000 final and got €456,720. (I know all the excuses)

Ok, well Kyrgios just hit the hardest forehand I have EVER seen deliberately into Nadal’s stomach. Nadal just about got a racquet on it. And glared at him for 7 seconds. Kyrgios spun the racquet on his finger ... #Wimbledon .

Barcelona and Stuttgart are two fantastic 500 tournaments. Both put on a great show for big crowds, with packed fields of top players. Tough to see the respective winners’ cheques. Alcaraz - €477,000 Swiatek - €104,000 The sooner we really do see #TennisUnited , the better.

That was one of the best matches I’ve ever seen. Khachanov in the last 2 sets played tennis from another planet. Kyrgios found out how cool it is to care. He cared enough for 4 hours 27 minutes to scrape over the finish line. Herculean effort. The essence of sport.

Absolute treat to see Osaka and Swiatek playing like that against each other. Don’t exactly know how you ensure there aren’t empty seats (maybe by making it the match of the day night session …), but this is a terrible shame when thousands of tennis deprived fans saw nothing.

Federer, who should be on his last legs at 37 and a half, plays 2 hours, nearly wins, ends up losing at the last in the final, then takes the mic to deliver a relaxed, jolly, upbeat, generous speech as if he’s handing out trophies at his mate’s golf weekend.

I don’t care whether Nadal vs. Djokovic is on in the day or night session. I do care that the night session is only a single match, scheduled for 8.45pm and has only featured women in 1 out of 9 days. Make it 7.30/45pm, two 3-set women’s matches or one men’s 5-set. 5 of each.

That is one heck of an achievement from Great Britain to reach Billie Jean King Cup finals. To go to France, and beat them on clay after losing the first rubber 6-2, 6-0. Emma Raducanu in particular. Beat Garcia and Parry from a set down to remind everyone how good she is.

May well be that that’s it for Roger Federer. He can and should take as long as he wants to seek a solution, and decide. But at this stage, mainly hope he can get his knee back to a state in which he can enjoy life, and perhaps a farewell exhibition tour. He’s done it all.
