Even if there were a way to reduce male advantage to zero, it would still be unfair to let them race in women's events, because they're men, not women.
@RebelNews_CA
It's disappointing that their definition of "fairness" still seems to be that the contestants are evenly matched. A better definition of "fairness" would be that no men are in the races that are for women only.

Re: "Biological women have criticized the company for using a trans person to speak about their experience of 'womanhood'"
No, it's for using a man.
@guardian_sport
@seaningle
"12% advantage" -- why all the focus on whether the men still have an advantage over the women? Suppose they didn't -- then they'd still take medals away from women 50% of the time, and that would be unfair to the women.

Even if Thomas were in the middle of the pack, it would be evidence of Ivy League corruption, as he is a man in an event for women only, stealing a spot from a woman.

Re: "some say she is swimming with unfair advantages"
Whether he has advantages is irrelevant. Whether those advantages are "unfair" is irrelevant. What's relevant is that a man is swimming in events that are for women only.

@washingtonpost
Re: "But some researchers say Thomas’s times show one year of treatment isn’t necessarily enough to level the playing field".
"Leveling the playing field" is irrelevant. He's a man, competing in an event for women. That, in itself, is unfair, regardless of outcomes.

I'm thinking of making a sign with this on it:
Protect "trans" kids ...
from permanent surgical mutilation and debilitating medication. Stop calling them "trans"!

Re: "Transgender women should be allowed to compete in women’s athletics, so long as these individuals can show that they’ve mitigated the athletic advantages that come with male puberty."
No, they're men, and women's athletics are for women only. Mitigation is pointless.
@salltweets
@HumanGayMale
Re: "Many scientists have criticised these guidelines, saying they do little to mitigate the biological advantages of those who have gone through puberty as males..." As though that were even relevant. What's relevant is that men are not women.

"There's nothing in the act that says we need to use a specific word for a protected characteristic."
This is double talk. Legislation is written using specific words with clear definitions so the meaning is clear. Government bodies should use the same words for clarity.
@projhumanities
I don't see the relevance of discussing whether they have an advantage -- they are men entering an event designated for women only, and that ought to be the deciding point.
@rdhinds
@phillutton
Nuance is required? Complex debate? I don't think so. Just keep men out of women's sporting events. No nuance or complexity there, and a perfect solution.

Even if male advantage could be removed, it would still be unfair to women to let men compete in their events. The events are for women only, and every male competitor means one fewer female competitor. Every medal going to a male should have gone to a female.

Yes: the responsibility for providing sources establishing safety and effectiveness of medication belongs to those proposing medication for a condition, not to those hesitating to medicate.
@Martina
Whether he retains an advantage over the women is irrelevant - he's a man in an event for women only. Even if he were to steal just some of the women's medals, it would still be unfair.
@WomenAreWomen3
Re: "Lia Thomas shrugs off doctors who confirm she DOES have unfair physical advantage"
Irrelevant. He's a man in events that are for women only.
@GwentPCC
And you have extra time to arrest a woman for posting feminist stickers in public places? You must have too many police officers chasing too few crimes. Time for a reduction in force.

Re: "When NCAA policy was written in 2011, it was based on the best-available information."
Hmm?? Didn't we already know in 2011 that men are men and women are women?
@TLexercise
It's irrelevant: even if there were no advantage, it would still be unfair, because they're men competing in an event for women only, taking medals and opportunities away from women.

Re: "Their reasoning is that multiple studies have shown in recent years that transgender women athletes who went through a typical male puberty during adolescence still hold a competitive edge".
Simpler reasoning: they aren't women.
@skdh
Sabine, as you point out, having an advantage is not unfair. Indeed, those with the most advantage are called "winners". What's unfair about men in women's sport is that they are men in events designated as being for women only.
@pullbuoy
Thank you for sticking your head above the parapet.
Re: "Can the innate male advantage be mitigated?"
Why would we want to think about mitigating the advantage? Let's just keep all men out of all events that are for women only.

@Martina
Re: "Trans women should compete with biological women, so long as they can demonstrate that they have lost their sex-linked, male-puberty advantage prior to competition in the women’s category."
No, men should not compete with women. The events are for women only.
@cathydevine56
That's not the problem. It's irrelevant whether these men have a performance advantage. They're men and should not be competing against women in an event that is for women only.
