I would actually love to be a part of a big, healthy Muslim community/neighborhood. Like everyone meets up at the mosque, there are potlucks, sisters can just hang out and all the kids are buddies and everyone helps each other

As Muslim women, our hair isn’t particularly more sacred than say - our legs, shoulders, arms etc- they’re all private for the purposes of dressing in public. We’re all on a journey with the hijab but this is a rule of thumb that has helped me be more conscious.

For me, “mainstream” hijab was pretty easy. Wearing jeans and a top with a matching scarf, easy peasy. Ankara and Jersey hijab, piece of cake. But then you learn the true hijab and everyone starts complaining and crying, that’s the real challenge.
