Trades by league:
NHL: someone is going to get robbed
MLB: hold on while I check my many computers
NFL: come again?
NBA: we just signed this guy last year but he made a new friend over the summer so now we'll deal him for 70 1st rounders
That's such a terrible look for an established guy like Matheson. Nicholson hires two fucking duds, Holland trusts a 39 yr old goalie and Tippett makes lineup decisions like a brain-damaged monkey. And the guy you choose to raise your voice with is a player? What a fucking joke
Obviously not gonna say how I know, but, the McDavid comments are causing pure chaos in the Oilers organization. This isn't me speculating. This is me knowing
The Oilers wanted to move Kane and he wouldn't give in...so they went out and got Arvedsson and Skinner and replaced him while he was still on the roster
This panel is getting better and better. Hrudey is even loosening up now. Bieksa is the best analyst HNIC has had since probably Howie Meeker and that's a compliment
A sure fire Hall-of-Famer Jarome Iginla was the definition of a world-class player on the ice, and by all reports an even better guy off it!
Calgarians were lucky to have him as a Flame for 17 seasons.
In the "Battle of Alberta" NHL history has there been a bigger Oilers killer?
Im not sure how the Oilers franchise got to the point where an out of touch 60 yr old GM and a coach who's won nothing became more valued than a generational player and a good top six. Give your fucking head a shake
Ryan Kesler has more money than all of us put together but he never won a Cup, he didn't win the Gold in 2010 and he was awful the last two years he played. And he can dunk on people on Twitter all he wants, but, all the above facts just eat away at him and that's all I need:)
Well,
@jimmathesonnhl
just shit his pants in front of everyone. Ask better questions and be fair to all. You already took a run at Koskinen and now Leon is sick of it, too. Go after Kenny and Bobby and Tipp. You're a reporter and not a member of the organization
Ethan Bear does not get enough love in the Edm press, let alone the national. It's Nurse this and Nurse that and Nurse can't even fucking play with anyone but Bear:) He's not even 23 and he's a top pairing D. And he's undersized. Don't get Nurse money that's sensibly Bear's
Connor Brown's in the pressbox, Campbell's backing up in the AHL and the Oilers are better when Evander Kane's on the 3rd line. None of Holland's draft picks have amounted to anything. What a run for Holland
One of the things that's stunned and amused me is people not understanding the definition of peaceful protest. This was not peaceful in any way. You set up an encampment and broke laws all along the way.
The Oilers helped the Hawks set up their whole summer by eating all of Duncan Keith's contract And they had to include a 3rd round pick. I can't get past this
Sometimes I find out Oilers trades/signings a day before and im never gonna leak that. This evening I got a look inside what the Oil call using analytics and it's as sad as I imagined. Fanbase has to demand a change. Mgmt is not open to new avenues of influence. Demand new mgmt
I feel bad for Brodziak that he signs in Edm to finish out and take it easy and then Hitch shows up. Its like a cop that retires and moves to a small town but then The Zodiac Killer moves in next door
Scrooge: *opens window* "dear boy, what day is it.?"
Boy: "Why, Mr. Scrooge, it's Flames Elimination Day."
Scrooge: "It is? Must be Mike Smith's fault, right?"
Boy: "no, sir. It's Johnny Gaudreau's."
Scrooge: "Well, I'll be goddamned."
Paul Maurice and everyone associated with the Panthers can just fuck off with the verbal on the Barkov hit or at the very least consider the trickledown of having Sam Bennett on your team. He went after Bouchard and Broberg.
Before Stauffer, Spector, Gregor and any of the other stooges say, "do you want Ken Holland to mortage the future", well, no, I don't. When it comes to the Edmonton Oilers, I don't want Ken Holland to have a future
It's fantastic that two games into a series where Tochett warned of diving, first Boeser and then Zadorov flopped so badly that the refs went and talked to them about it:)
Sam Gagner double hip surgery. Oilers Media: a profile in courage second only to Terry Fox! Pulljavvi double hip surgery. OM: what a bust!
Brown four mill cap hit no goals in 40 games . OM: let's have patience. Puljarvvi slump: where is my syphilis-dipped pitchfork?
Maybe someone could find Ethan Bear's favourite charity and a bunch of fans could kick in some money in his name. I'll send along some if that's the case. I love watching him play and I would hate to think he believes he's playing for a fanbase that mocks his heritage
Oilers media before Kulak resigned: "im not sure if Brett Kulak is a top four D."
Oilers media after Kulak signed: "what a contract for a second pairing dman."
Spector is pure poison when it comes to skilled players. He has slammed everyone I can remember. He even took a swing at McDavid for an afternoon game at Dal when 97 was miserable with the flu:) He's an old-timey clown that longs to be buddies with the Kris Russells of the world
Remember when Stauffer asked Debrusk if he thought the addition of Duncan Keith would entice other big names to come play in Edmonton? And then less than a week later Adam Larsson said fuck this shit and signed with an expansion franchise?:)
I feel worse and worse about this trade. They quit on the player and they didn't stand by the player like they could have. I see Stauffer and a lot of people talking about Western Canadian boys and look who the Oilers quit on
Remember when Ethan Bear missed the start of camp and it was talked about forever because of how it "put him behind the eight ball." Let's keep this in mind, shall we
Newly acquired defenseman Duncan Keith is still quarantining after receiving his second dose of the vaccine. He will not be with the Edmonton Oilers when they open training camp tomorrow and is expected to miss the first week of camp.
I love Ekholm so much and I will never figure out how Ken Holland pulled this off. A lot of teams were after Hyman and the Oilers went extra term and had McDavid. Not really a big move by the GM. The Ekholm trade is crazy good and especially considering Ken Holland made it
The person who gave me the following Pulljarvvi info has been right before so here goes. He is not unhappy with the team or playing in the city of Edmonton. He did not ask to be traded. He's just very disappointed in his 2nd half. Nothing is settled just yet:)
Sounds like Barkov passed first round of tests and is a decent bet to play G3. That's two Panthers that had to leave the game in-game but recovered just fine. The power of the rejuvenating Fla sun!
This isn't a young coach with an expansion team. It isn't an interm coach skippering out the string. A cap team with an historical player is going to let a coach go 0-11-2 without being fired. I can't think of anything else like this
Just a whirlwind of a day to be an Oilers fan. Never seen anything like this before. All these one and two year deals coming in under projected value. Working around Kane instead of catering to him
For the two journalists who primarily bleat about accountability and run over Bouchard on the regular, where were they today to ask Holland about Campbell's contract and how that affected Woodcroft's record?
Can you imagine the things Mark Spector would be writing about Puljarvvi if he had Connor Brown's stats? Edm media really showing it's true colours again
Tippett healthy scratched Kulikov last spring. Go look him up in Minny this year. Tippett benched Bear last spring. Go look him up in Carolina this year. He's got a real bum's eye for dmen
#Oilers
Connor McDavid has 50 points in his last 21 games going back to last season (2.38 points per game).
We are watching one of the best players to ever play the game in his absolute prime!
#LetsGoOilers
A Klefbom/Bear tandem is one of the great What If's in recent Oilers history. The Klefbom injury has been devastating. If you had Klef-Nurse and Bear-Bouch, you are a good goalie away from having a real chance to win a Cup every year
This guy is a stupid motherfucker. I wish the Oilers did know how to dive but McDavid basically slaloming the whole game and Leon carries more people than Thatcher Demko
Interesting to hear Tocchet say that the NHL had a meeting with the teams today and one of the points of emphasis was embellishment. Heading into a series with the Oilers, who we know are willing to do what they have to do to create PP chances, that could be very important.
So, according to Stauffer, Kane was playing with a broken finger. Yet, Woodcroft continued to play the hell out of him and literally waste 97's time. Very disappointing performance by Woodcroft this spring
Lost this guy today and I'm absolutely gutted. He was a rescue from a deceased relative and I loved him at first sight. He hated when I played guitar but loved when I cooked breakfast. He provided me with so much entertainment and joy and will not soon be forgotten. Hug your pets
It's very impressive to see how good Holloway is on the boards and in one-on-one battles in general. He also really manages the puck well for a young forward. If he's on the cycle, je seldom makes the risky play. It's a lot of fun watching young players improve
Further to Frank's reporting, Adam Larsson has a four-year deal with
#SeaKraken
-- hearing it'll be a $4M AAV.
Seattle locked him during its exclusive UFA/RFA interview period.
Seeing the Oilers set their minds to checking and watching them be consistently smart in the neutral zone is something I just can't wrap my mind around. It's brand new
Oilers lose to Van
"Will Leon ask out and Connor to follow?"
Oilers lose to Dal
"Will Leon ask out and Connor to follow?"
Oilers win Cup
"Now that they have won a Cup....Will Leon ask out and Connor to follow?"
Oilers Now with Bob Stauffer and "you would have to think that if Karlsson is acquired, that meants Bouchard moves on because it blocks what Bouchard can do." I guess this is why TB couldn't have Hedman and Sergachev. Or Avs couldn't have Makar and Byram
Holland's prize netminding signing just allowed eight goals in around 60 shots in two games...in the AHL. The team has the worst netminding in the league and there wasn't one question about it today for Holland. Not one
Jeff Jackson is systematically deleting all of the mistakes of the Holland era. Broberg won't last more than one season if he doesn't pop. However, the biggest Holland blunder to be fixed is the Nurse contract
I don't geek out very often even though teams I root for have had some serious star power but sweet Jesus how impressive was 97 tonight. He's on a line with Stupid Penalty Smurf & the wooden legged pirate from Family Guy and you cannot stop him. I was in awe of that determination
Good line from Stauffer on Oilers Now and I'm paraphrasing. The three fastest Oilers are McLeod in the skills, 97 in-game and Kane when there's a chance for an empty net goal
I know Pettersson can shoot it and used Ceci as a screen but having watched the goal a few times now Koskinen was much too deep in his net on that shot.
I'm no goalie coach but with no threat of a pass at that moment he's gotta be outside of the blueline paint on that one.
If Edm makes playoffs, some fools will look at Leon's contract, Koskinen's role and Bear as reasons why Chiarelli wasn't all bad. But, Hall has one more MVP than Lucic has goals in a quarter of a season and you would find Carmen Sandiego quicker than Griffen Reinhart
The bad news about the goaltending is that more than anything else, it's gonna be the death blow for the Oilers season. Maybe even in the first round and you always knew that. The good news is that it's gonna cost Ken Holland his job
Habs beat writer on Rishaug's pod said Habs would trade Edmondson for a 2nd or 3rd, Bourgault and Puljarvvi. Sweet merciful jesus. That's probably worse than you would hear from a Toronto writer
The man that went all in on Barrie, Keith, Ceci before deciding he couldn't go all in on Chychrun? Who signed a 40 yr old to a two year deal? Guy who signed Kassian for four years? This is the guy you're defending. Go get a job in a PR firm because at least you'll make real $
It's actually very cool that Koskinen outed Tippett as a favourite-playing bitch. Now to see Smith play like shit tonight and watch Tippett dance around that one
I heard from multiple people, who turned out to be right about other things, that Holland was told by Katz at the pro scouting meetings months ago to get a goalie. The meetings were tense. I cannot see Holland surviving a 1st round loss
I'm not really sure why JP at 3 mill is a problem but Foegle at 2.75 is just fine. The whole hate for Pulljarvvi is the biggest misinformation project since the Hall/Larsson deal
Now that I look back, the Oilers not being interested in Jacob Chychrun was a massive tell to just how far behind the curve they are. The fact they don't sufficiently value him shows you what they don't care for or understand
Spector talking about Leon being polite is sickening:) Spector treats every mgmt type like a diety and then he goes off his head if he feels a player isn't respectful enough to an old fuck who asked the same question three times
Jeff Skinner says the "consistent interest" from the Oilers on Monday won him over. Naturally, an excellent chance to play on a team bound for the playoffs appealed to him, too.
Maybe it's Sportsnet's fault for putting him there when they know one of the teams pays him but Kelly Hrudey was pathetic tonight considering it was a national broadcast. Was it funny to listen to? Fuck yes:)
Pulljarvvi could very easily score 20 goals and 40 points and even if that's his ceiling, his care and interest in forechecking and back checking him a very valuable player. I'm not sure why that isn't how he's viewed. No one looks at his strengths
Bennett stuck his knee out on Bouch; tried to hit Broberg high. By my math, Edm should take a run at someone other than Barkov:) Brad Marchand said what everyone thought: you try to hurt people in the playoffs. Fla broke the seal and now they can't cry when it turns back on them
