Congrats to
@IbukunMD
for her publication SHEA neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) white paper series: Practical approaches to Staphylococcus aureus disease prevention in
@ICHEJournal
@SHEA_Epi
💚
This review showed higher
#CLABSI
and
#CAUTI
rates in POC patients than in white patients despite similar device utilization between groups. See what the
@DICON_duke
and
@DukeAdultID
faculty had to say about their findings in
@ICHEJournal
.
IP pros, if you needed a reminder that what you do makes a huge difference: a recent
@CDCgov
report showed that patients were 16% less likely to have an HAI in 2015 than they were in 2011. Read more here:

Have you wondered how many serious superficial SSIs were missed by surveillance? See
@DICON_duke
's Jessie Seidelman's article that proposes a new surveillance definition for SSISSI:
Infection prevention is everybody’s responsibility. Each of us—patients, families, and healthcare personnel—has an important role to play in keeping patients safe from infection. Learn more next week during

We're proud to announce that in 2017 Chesapeake Regional received the 2017 Patient Safety Excellence Award, recognizing the hospital as the top ten percent in the nation for Patient Safety. Way to go team for creating a safe environment for all!
Check out an editorial commentary from Twitterless Dr. Jessie Seidelman and team on serious superficial incisional surgical site infections (SSISSIs, if you will) posted in DICON News on the DICON website:
Posters and signs are an excellent way to engage people in public health. This reminder to wash your hands in a

bathroom is hard to miss!
@DukeMedSchool
@DukeMedGlobal
Friendly reminder that our
#COVID19
webinars are still available for free viewing on our website! We've got an update from Twitterless Dr. Dan Sexton (who is an incredible speaker and entertainer), and conversations including
@Sonali_Advani
&
@mike_edmond
25 years ago, Dr. Dan Sexton started what would become DICON after a winding journey involving serendipity, detours, and opportunities. We are all so grateful for, and inspired by his work that continues to shape the field of ID. 💚
Twitterless Dr. Art Baker has been working with scientists all over the world to develop a monitoring scheme for early detection of coronavirus and other respiratory virus outbreaks.
A4: Always start with the facts! There is no proven link between vaccines and autism. The 1998 study that first suggested this theory was later proven fraudulent and retracted. Statistics show that vaccines are safe and the most effective way to prevent outbreaks.

How has the COVID-19 pandemic affected the way we do research?
@Duke_ASET
's
@rebsmoe
and Dr. Holland from
@DukeAdultID
talk about it in Clinical Infectious Diseases.

Now in print! A cross-sectional survey of infection preventionists in 60 US community hospitals was performed and several differences in preparedness were observed with respect to PPE conservation, testing protocols, universal masking, & restarting elective procedures.
🎉🎉 Congrats to
@Sonali_Advani
on being awarded the 2020
@SHEA_Epi
Research Scholar Award to study optimal urinalysis criteria for reflex urine cultures!

The
#dicondason2020
fall symposium looks a little different this year, but I’m so excited that the
@DICON_duke
,
@DASON_duke
, and
@DCASIP_duke
teams are able to still make this day happen! I do miss the chaos of caterers, vendors, parking, and various venue issues though.
Our
@DICON_duke
and
@DukeAdultID
colleagues have been working on the SIR and SUR for CAUTI in contrast to CLABSI, in addition to CAUTI definition challenges, incentivizing hospitals to focus prevention efforts on urine culture stewardship rather than catheter avoidance & care.
Have you seen the 2017 HAI Progress Report from
@CDCgov
yet? Some of the highlights include a 13% decrease in HA-CDI in acute care hospitals, and a 9% decrease in CLABSIs in acute care hospitals between 2016 and 2017.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, APIC is canceling its June 10-12, 2020 Annual Conference in Phoenix. We salute our IPs and other healthcare heroes who are working very hard to keep everyone safe:
