Christopher Nolan says thereโs concern of content disappearing from streaming services.โ
โThere is a danger, these days, that if things only exist in the streaming version they do get taken down, they come and go.โ

Physical. Media. Please!
I mean, itโs great that people have a way to watch this at home now. It was one of the best films of 2023. But I want a North American physical media release of this.
Been re-watching some of Christopher Nolanโs early films, and INSOMNIA from 2002 might be one of his most under-appreciated.
Al Pacino and the late Robin Williams gave two of their finest and most understated performances here too.
Itโs impossible to overstate just how important Tim Burtonโs BATMAN was for the super hero genre and movie industry as a whole. Its game changing influence can still be felt to this very day.
The movie was released in cinemas โข35 years agoโข today.
I was there opening day.
So,
#DarkPhoenix
is set in 1992...a decade after X-Men Apocalypse, which in turn was set a decade after X-Men: Days of Future Past, which, yup, was set a decade after X-Men: First Class.
That means that Dark Phoenix is set 30 years after First Class.
Ummmm...
Re-watching the original GHOSTBUSTERS (becauseโฆwhy not?), and it remains incredible how well this film does world building in such an economical 98 minutes (before credits).
Thereโsโฆlikeโฆzero fat on this filmโs body.
45 years ago today the first summer blockbuster was released. It became the first film in history to earn $100 million at the box office and was the highest grossing film ever until STAR WARS was released a few years later.
And yes, itโs still a masterpiece.

The new 4K UHD BR of DESPERADO is absolute ๐ฅ
I saw this when it originally premiered in cinemas back in 1995.
This is as good as it has ever looked.
Soooooo...McAvoyโs Professor X and Fassbenderโs Magneto do not look like theyโre in their 60s in Dark Phoenix. Like...at all.
This franchiseโs continuity is an absolute dumpster fire of illogic.
I still have my steelbook DVD of the extended 3-hour TV cut of DUNE โ84.
As far as I know, itโs out of print. It wasnโt included on the recent Arrow 4K UHD set.
David Lynch publicly disowned this cut and removed his name from the credits, hence - โDirected by Alan Smitheeโฆโ
The first DVD players went on sale โข27 years agoโข today.
This forever changed my movie consumption and collecting life.
I paid nearly $1000 Canadian for my first player.
My first DVD was ROB ROY.
Itโs with extreme sadness that I have to mournfully report that my little Mulder had to be put down early this morning. He has been such an inseparable part of my life for the past eight-plus years.
I will love himโฆalways. โค๏ธ
Iโm really glad that they preserved the IMAX ratio (for applicable scenes) on the 4K UHD release of
#TopGunMaverick
and adjusted ratios on the fly accordingly for scenes that werenโt IMAX. โขEVERYโข physical media release of a film shot this way should do this.
Support. Physical. Media.
A โdigitalโ purchase is never 100% safe as far as indefinite access (or ownership) goes.
And FYI, I still have 25 year old DVDs on my collection shelf that still play flawlessly.
Wild. If you "purchased" any of these titles via Playstation, they are going to disappear soon and too bad for you.
Buying digital media is simply renting with an open-ended expiration date. They can and will take it from you if they feel like it.
I remember working at a video store when TITANIC was first released on home video in 1998 via that memorable double decker VHS edition.
Watching the film now in 4K Dolby Vision shows how insanely far physical media has come in 25 years.

My small Criterion/Kino Lorber shelf.
I gotta say, even though I love Criterion and have so since the olโ Laser Disc days, I actually prefer the symmetry of the Kino Lorber titles on my shelf. Black spinsโฆmovie logos/titles on themโฆjust looks cleaner.
How much longer is it going to take before we start acknowledging Ben Affleck as one of the finest working directors today?
GONE BABY GONEโฆTHE TOWNโฆARGOโฆand now AIR. His filmmaking resume speaks for itself.
He has never made a truly bad one yet.
BLADE RUNNER re-watch tonight.
Anytime someone tells me that old movies canโt look any better on 4K UHD BRs then I just pop this baby in to convince them otherwise.
Iโm really sad that this truly great piece of sci-fi failed to find an audience when it was released earlier in the fall.
I hope it finds a following now that it has been released on 4K UHD BR.
I promise you that itโll have a spot on my TOP 10 of 2023.
Started re-watching all of the Peter Sellers PINK PANTHER movies, which I havenโt done for maybe 20 years.
This might be one of the funniest scenes in movie history.
It ainโt Christmas until Batman is summoned by his signal to take out The Penguinโs circus gang scum in Gotham City after a botched tree lighting ceremonyโฆ
Our premier talking trash about the NDP and Liberals coming together to ensure that an act gets passed to end a horrible near-month long problem AFTER preaching to the province about the importance of COMING TOGETHER and ENDING DIVISIONS is effinโ rich.
The final 10-15 minutes of MAD MAX 2 (THE ROAD WARRIOR) still - for my money - contains arguably the greatest sustained chase sequence in movie history.
95 Saskatchewanians have died of COVID since the beginning of the year.
Zero have died of the flu since that time.
COVID should NOT be treated the same as the flu. The Pandemic is clearly not over.
Minister of rural health Everett Hindley teases an announcement coming tomorrow that the province will lift masking requirements at SHA facilities.
The provinceโs facilities will revert to pre-pandemic policy.
โTreating it the same as other respiratory illness,โ Hindley said.
Checking out UNFORGIVEN for the first time since maybe the early 2000s (via a newly acquired 4K UHD BR). I do have vivid memories of seeing the film theatrically during its year of release in a less than stellar film print.
This is the BEST the film has ever looked in my eyes.
Iโve been enjoying my recent re-watch of โขpre-MCUโข Marvel films as of late.
Today - THE PUNISHER (which turns 20 this year). I was in the minority for thinking it was decent upon its original theatrical release.
His brawl with the Russian is still awesome.
The audio commentary on the

Blu-Ray by James and Dave Franco,
@TommyWiseau
and
@gregsestero
is one of the most engaging and entertaining that Iโve listened to in an awfully long time.
Speaking of movies, decided to re-visit Ang Leeโs HULK, which I havenโt watched in maybe a decade.
I still think itโs a terribly undervalued super hero epic that takes risks and shows more stylistic ambition than most of the recent MCU offerings made with assembly line sameness.
Some people stare at their Netflix queues for an hour trying to figure out what to watch.
I stare at 3 walls of *this* every night in my movie room.

Alden Ehrenreich is a fine actor, but Disney ABSOLUTELY FAILED in casting Anthony Ingruber for
#SoloAStarWarsStory
.
He played a young version of Harrison Fordโs character in Age of Adeline and was a dead ringer for the actor in every way.
Okay. Hereโs the deal.
Iโve seen TRUE LIES on Laser Disc and VHS (I still have my 1996 copy). The new 4K UHD BR of it is - to be fair - the best it has ever look on home media.
BUUUUUUTโฆitโs a truly mixed bag affair and hardly worth the insanely long wait. A real shame.
FAIR PLAY is an utterly intoxicating and razor sharply written workplace thriller set in the world of cutthroat finance analysts. Itโs also a bravura showcase for Alden Ehrenreich and Phoebe Dynevor, who both give Oscar caliber performances. Easily one of Netflixโs better efforts
Friend on the phone:
I canโt find (random movie) on any streaming platform and I want to watch it so badly!

THE ABYSS โขfinallyโข coming to 4K UHD BR is huge news considering that its only physical media releases were on a non-anamorphic DVD, Laser Disc and VHS. It โขNEVERโข had an HD physical media release. Ditto for TRUE LIES.
Getting ALIENS on 4K too is just icing on the cake.
After watching the sensational AIR (see it), I decided to re-watch some of Ben Affleckโs past directorial efforts.

How come NO ONE is taking about the dreadful double dip for AVATAR 1 on 4K UHD BR?! The first just got released on 4K back in June (minus the other cuts) and now - six months later - a new set with all the proper cuts is coming outโฆ

Hey, Amazon US. My CHEERS complete series Blu-Ray box set got completely obliterated in the mail. Why was this shipped in a flimsy bag versus a cardboard box with proper bubble wrap?!?! This is BEYOND UNACCEPTABLE, especially for the price paid. ๐ก๐ก๐ก
Iโve made this habit of watching DANCES WITH WOLVES once every ten years or so since I saw it theatrically and was originally released on home video.
This is probably my sixth or seventh full viewing. That buffalo hunt sequence will never be duplicated and still amazes.
