The fact that HIV antivirals are showing effectivenes against COVID says a lot about what we're dealing with here. It's not the flu. It's a novel coronavirus that gets into your blood, brain, organs, bone marrow, and DNA damage and wrecks your immune system. Stay safe.

Not to mention that when there were mandates, most kids had no problem. Sure, masking for the littles was imperfect, but it wasn’t the kids who complained. It was the adults. It’s always the adults. If a kid can learn to wear clothes to school, they can learn to mask there, too.

Reminder that COVID wastewater levels have never gone back down to "low" - the baseline keeps rising up and up, especially with these last few waves. "So what, everyone has COVID all the time, big deal" - think about what that actually means, please. (graph via @JPWeiland )

The most shocking thing to me about the ongoing COVID pandemic is how easily everyone accepted a massive downgrade in health, lifespan, and quality of life as the new normal. It quickly becomes clear why nothing has been done about climate change, income inequality, etc.

"If it was that bad, it would be all over the news!" This is our biggest battle. Common people look to media outlets. Scientists, WHO, CDC have all been very vocal about what's happening but the media ignores it because it's bad for profits.

I do not share this fatalist view of life. - I wear seatbelts. - I avoid second-hand smoke. - I monitor my diet, and exercise. - I practice safe sex. - I wear a mask and pay attention to data on what COVID-19 does to the body and brain. Yeah life is short, why make it shorter?

@CovidCaution @CBS Most people are just confused as to why you’d waste precious moments of your short time on earth trying to avoid a virus that the vast majority of people have already gotten & that you will, with 100% certainty, also get. It’s not healthy to live in 24/7 fear.

We were supposed to get under 10k cases a day for COVID to be manageable or "endemic." Our "low" is 150,000 and rises with each wave. We're currently at 250,000 cases per day and rising / 1 in every 134 people currently infected.

🧵Minimizers are out in force painting COVID-cautious people as a "cult." They say we're "making up" the effects of COVID (immune dysfunction, neurological damage, endothelial damage, etc) because we "can't let go" of the pandemic. Let's talk about this a bit...

Reminder that "this variant is not any more severe/deadly than prior variants" is carefully designed language meant to minimize illness and encourage complacency. "This variant is just as severe/deadly as prior variants" is the way it should be phrased. There is no "mild" COVID

I'll keep saying this: If we were at 1 million daily cases of the common cold or the flu, especially in the middle of the summer, that alone would be a public health emergency. COVID is far worse than any cold or flu, and we're just letting it rip. The snake eats its own tail.

Why is it restaurants that are humanity’s undoing? Nobody hits me up to have a picnic. Or a hike. Or an ocean walk. It’s always restaurants. If people could have just cooked at home or had BBQs I feel like half the people who died from COVID would still be alive. We’re so dumb.

"Nothing can stop COVID" is a complete cop out. I do not share this fatalistic view. Nothing can stop COVID... if we keep doing nothing to stop it. Many studies show a multi-layered approach, including fresh air ventilation/filtration, achieves dramatic results. DO NOT GIVE UP

1. STOP PRETENDING COVID didn't end. It's one thing to say "I just don't care" but don't reject all the empirical data because it's inconvenient. Public Health shuffled it under the rug hoping for herd immunity but that didn't happen. We have to be adults and handle it.

COVID has 10x-50x higher prevalence than flu and RSV combined during PEAK flu season. And flu actually goes away almost completely for the rest of the year, but COVID never does, as we've seen. COVID is far more dangerous, and everywhere always. Comparing them is a fallacy.

Reminder that criticizing Biden does not make one pro-Trump. Criticizing the CDC does not make one anti-vax. Wanting COVID mitigations does not mean lockdowns. We are constantly inculcated to see the world in binary terms, for/against. It's by design and an illusion of choice.

Nobody wanting to wear masks to actually end the COVID-19 pandemic lines up with other things people are unwilling to do to address many other issues that are pushing humanity and the planet over the edge. Mild discomfort is all it takes for people to dismiss an imminent danger.

From 1981 through 1990, 100,777 people tragically died of AIDS. For years the gay community marched on Wall Street, the White House, local gov'ts, DEMANDING research. DEMANDING treatments. And they were HEARD! Where is this kind of activism now? Why are we so complacent?

4. HIGH QUALITY MASKING + TESTING De-politicize masks. It's PPE like a hard hat, welding mask, or safety glasses. Gov't should supply citizenry with N95s + tests. Putting a mask on for 15 minutes in a store shouldn't be a bloody drama. "No shirt, no shoes, no service"?

Is this satire? 400,000+ studies about the once in a hundred pandemic that is still infecting over a million people a day are extremely scientifically crystal clear on why this is happening. CDC and WHO are open about this. This is not fringe science here.
