I am delighted to share our proposed clinical criteria for a limbic-predominant amnestic neurodegenerative syndrome (LANS) highly associated with TDP-43 (or LATE)
Another family dinner where everyone think I'll soon become a millionaire because I'm doing a PhD.
They'll be pretty disappointed when they find out that my Christmas gifts are actually cards in which I ask them for money.

I'm now comfortable enough to do all my stats and graphs with R, and I dropped SPSS for good.
This feels like I've just got out of a bad marriage and found a new cool, smart, good-looking girlfriend.

Fantastic news came in! I will pursue my journey at
@MayoClinic
as part of the Medical Psychology clinical fellowship - Neuropsychology Adult track, beginning August 2023!
A pivotal step towards becoming a clinician-scientist at the best hospital in the world 🧠👨⚕️🥹
Weird to think that one of the best thing that has been done for science is Sci-hub.
The publication system had to be hacked so we could promote research.
We came to the point where we have to break the law to respect the fundamental values of our profession.
@AcademicChatter
As of today, I am debt-free. I don't have much in my bank account, but I have never felt so rich.
As a first generation PhD (and university in general) coming from a very modest family, clearing this student debt felt nothing less than AMAZING.
I am SO excited to announce that I have been awarded my first grant ever as a co-PI!!! 🤩 Incredibly grateful for
@BluefieldProj
's support to develop an AI-driven, FDG-PET biomarker to track disease progression in progranulin mutation carriers. Big day for the
@NaipMayo
team!
I'M A DOCTOR!!! Lots of work into this. In spite of the pandemic, it was an incredible day. So much love from friends, family, and colleagues. Thank you
@pierre_bellec
@T_Hinault
, S Brambati & S Belleville for the insightful discussions. 🥳🥳🥳
So, I have a paper in press about sex differences in fMRI activation. We used a partial least square (PLS) analysis.
I was yesterday-year-old when a friend pointed out that my files were named "_SexPLS".
Yes, all files (paper, cov letter, reviews) were submitted with that name.

People chose academia because they want to contribute to our understanding of the world. This is what they signed up for. Not crazy unrealistic demands to please the greedy culture of scientific publication
Very happy to share my first paper as a lead & corresponding author about rates of failure on the Test of Memory Malingering in dysexecutive Alzheimer's disease is out in Archives of Clinical Neuropsychology!
Here is a short thread :)
Studies dividing MMSE or MoCA scores into "cognitive domain subscales" is equivalent to imaging the brain using a 0.000001T MRI scanner. Please don't do this.

I read negative tweets about graduate school on a daily basis (e.g. toxic environments, work/life balance). Of course, there are issues that need to be fixed. But maybe that creates a vicious circle as well? What if we pointed out things we enjoy/are proud of?

Progressive and dense amnestic syndrome meeting criteria for dementia. Patient is 86 y-o. This is the MRI.
Based on this information, what is your likely diagnosis?
(I'll share more biomarker + autopsy info after a couple of replies).
If you had told me I would work for
@MayoClinic
when I started my graduate studies, I would have laughed uncontrollably. What a priviledge and honor to wear this badge!
Finding out on the first day back from my vacation that I received an Academic Excellence Award from the Canadian Psychological Association for the quality of my thesis and my achievements throughout my graduate studies 🥳 Time to celebrate!
Our new paper in collaboration with the HCP-A team is out in
@braincomms
! Here we describe patterns of default mode network failure and neurodegeneration across aging, dysexecutive AD and amnestic AD. More details below 👇
Here is my first post-doc paper!

I applied to grad school exactly 7 years ago. My FB post said "my future may lie in these enveloppes", and boy was I right.
Now a neuropsychologist with a PhD, conducting amazing research in the best hospital in the world.
What a ride it's been. And it's far from over.
Corriveau-Lecavalier et al. show that dementia syndromes targeting executive functions have different signatures of brain degeneration to those affecting personality and behaviour. This has implications for diagnosis, counselling and symptom management.
Today marks the end of my residency in clinical neuropsychology. The 2,500 hours spent in clinical settings over the past five years have enabled me to change the lives of vulnerable people (hopefully) for the better, and have definitely transformed who I am as a human being. 🥳
This fellowship has been nothing short of life changing. I am incredibly honored to have received this award at the fellowship graduation ceremony of the
@MayoClinic
Neurology Department, where brilliant minds co-exist with genuine warmth and support.
A mixture of NAIP &
@NRGMayo
members gathered to celebrate the fellowship graduation of
@StuMcCarter
(clinical), Aaron Switzer (clinical), Dror Shir (research), and
@CorriveauNick
(research) tonight. Bright days ahead for this wonderful group of people.
Who said you need tau-PET? All you need is FDG! In this paper from

with

as first author, we used a CNN model to faithfully synthesize tau-PET images using FDG-PET as input across the AD spectrum

Busy morning making not one, not two, not three.... but FOUR

Can't wait to connect and discuss these results in Amsterdam in about a month!
Classification of neurodegenerative diseases is confusing. They can be named after symptomatology (PPA), anatomical location (FTD), a name (Alzheimer), and/or underlying proteinopathy. Should all of this be revised? 90% of debates I join on Twitter relate to this issue.
My supervisor always knew that I wanted to do a post-doctoral fellowship. Last week, she told me that the time has finally come for me to look for opportunities and quite frankly, it’s scary. Where to go? Who to approach? And how? Any tips?

Every wonder about all the different underlying pathologies that can cause a progressive amnestic syndrome in old age?
If you think it is only Alzheimer's, think twice.

Post-docs, how did you feel right before leaving home?
ResearchGate sent me a notification that this paper cited one of my thesis articles. I really wonder how they managed to slip a paper about MCI and memory in there.
I requested the full-text. Stay tuned.
After 4 years of work, and 4 journal rejections, paper accepted in

Also, note the Alzheimer's Association band holding the broken handle since AAIC2018 😂.
It is time for neurologists and neuropsychologists to abandon the view that executive functions = prefrontal lobe and prefrontal lobe only. Insightful review on the (not so exclusive) role of the PFC in EF.
And just like that, my research fellowship has come to an end. A new chapter begins on Monday as a clinical fellow in adult neuropsychology at
@MayoClinic
. Looking forward to get back to clinical practice after three years of research 🤩
Currently working on a presentation/paper about two homozygous twin brothers who ended up developing Alzheimer's disease... One with amnestic AD, the other one with behavioral AD.
This is so intriguing. I love clinical case series.
Ranked pretty good for the CIHR Banting postdoctoral fellowship, but not enough to get funded. And that's okay. Failure is part of the journey...
Need a drink nonetheless 🤪🥃
Last (and favorite) thesis paper published in

We assessed latent patterns of functional connectivity in relation to regions of fMRI hyperactivation and associative memory performance in individuals at risk of AD.
I hope I'm wrong, but this is worrisome for many reasons that are too complex to discuss over Twitter. A lot of ink will flow in the following weeks/months...
Woke up to the crazy realization that I now have 1.5K followers. I mostly tweet about aging & dementia research, along with funny memes. I also retweet your research as much as I can.
Thank you all for following me! This community definitely changed my life for the better.
Whether in the workplace or on Twitter, I see MDs, especially neurologists, recognizing the contribution of neuropsychologists to better diagnose, understand and treat neurological disorders. Thanks to all of you for this examplar collegiality. This is refreshing.

Sometimes I look at papers with 40+ authors and 65 affiliations, and I just hope the submission platform didn't crash while the poor first author filled that in. There would be holes in my wall.
I have just joined the Editorial Board of Brain Research. 🧠
Looking forward to contribute to research from the Editorial side! I feel it'll be a great learning experience.
Any advice is welcome 😊
About to submit a paper with 25 authors on it. Contrary to what most people would (understandably) think, every single author contributed to the data and/or engaged in very insightful discussions about the clinical implications of the paper. Terrific teamwork!
#ENDALZ
I just want to point out that this promotion does not guarantee tenure or a permanent position. But it'll allow me to start applying to small grants, and eventually lead my own research projects 😁.
Nine years ago on this day, I was sitting in a conference room, completely captivated by Brenda Milner discussing the famous HM case.
As a first year undergrad student, I was only beginning to understand how her discoveries would eventually guide my whole career.
Sumbitted my two last PhD papers today 🥳. Fingers crossed 🤞🏻🤞🏼🤞🏽🤞🏾🤞🏿
Btw: Sumbitting to
@eLife
was the easiest thing ever. Other journals should take example on it.
We submitted a paper showing clinical and atrophy differences between amnestic and dysexecutive AD that are as clear as day.
Reviewer 1: What if these patients [55 y-o on average, dysexecutive, without hippocampal atrophy] are simply late-stage typical AD?
Are you kidding me?
New paper alert!!
