Occasionally you meet people in life who are instantly likeable. The sort of bloke that makes you feel comfortable his presence - who makes you laugh - who seems genuinely interested in you and yours. The tragedy is that he is lost to his family. Words are not enough
Players staging, umpires with no feel for the game and a ridiculously outdated 50 metre penalty that no longer fits the transgression are all conspiring to destroy the spirit of a great game. Time to adopt the SANFL’s 25 metre penalty

Another reason why the 50metre penalty must go. No way does Blicavs encroach from where the mark was taken. Another over-reaction by the umpire at a critical stage. Didn’t change the result..BUT..
Sam - you know we’re mates, but you really have to move on from this. There is a reason more people voted for Biden and it has nothing to do with voter fraud. The incumbent couldn’t fool more people more of the time - finally.
Let’s hope a million people, of the 75 million who voted for Trump, protest, calmly, about the inauguration of dopey Joe’s sham Presidency. Please.

This seriously must be the most unjust one game suspension in the history of the game. Yes, he can be a serial pest but surely you have to commit a crime to do the time. One game for a swinging round arm... one game for... who knows what? Who benefits most I wonder?
Too often the AFL intervention indicates a genuine lack of feel for the game. It’s easy to see there was no malicious intent in Maynard’s action. It was not unreasonable. Football accidents still happen. For the integrity of the game he must be cleared.
Sometimes ill-conceived decisions have to be reversed. Reinstate his captaincy now - he’s served a significant ban, paid his penance and emerged with dignity intact.

Had the toughest job any AFL captain has ever had. The club will always remember and be grateful. Time to ease the pressure and enjoy his football.
Like most I complained I had to have the AZ and not the Pfizer. Despite doctor’s assurance and narrative from other countries, hesitancy prevailed. But finally I succumbed to family & social pressures. Had the first jab. The sky didn’t fall in. No side effects at all. Just saying

The stupidity of a 50 m penalty against a player running away from the man with ball. Surely this ridiculous exclusion zone has to go. Another easy goal
I can’t think of an individual who has contributed more to SA football. Player, coach administrator. He was there from the very first day of the Adelaide Football Club. What a foundation he put in place. Loved and respected. A great loss.

Who cares about SA footy Graham. The AFL is made up of its own and VFL history, you elected to be a part of that history when you joined AFL not the other way around.
Well umpired… the player running towards the ball surely has the right to protect himself against the player who, as courageous as it might be, is running back with flight of the ball. Wright instinctively braces for contact at the last split second. Play on.

Absolutely inexcusable. Appalling selections but same old story: no forward line presence or intensity; no attacking options from defence and worse, no obvious enthusiasm and a complete lack of optimism.

It’s not the same as state v state but the cause is so vital that the footy family must rally behind it and support it unconditionally. No negatives no criticism no trolls. AFL confirms State of Origin match, makes massive donation…

With the detective work you did today on Izak Rankine and how far he ran, would love to get the results on these couple of bounces that WERE LET GO BY UMPIRES WITH COMMON SENSE!!
Perhaps the most ridiculous grievous myopic selection of mark of the week. Should be overturned. Circumstances of the match, the spectacle of the pack mark and the height over tall defenders demands Himmelberg’s mark is recognised as such. Mark of year even.
Not bad for your first touch of the footy for the season 🤷♂️

Such a sad week. Mark Naley fought bravely as he always did but succumbed to an insidious disease. A terrific player - at his best with the Panthers, great at Carlton and always sensational in state games. And Chris Hunt, a name steeped in the history of the Glenelg FC. Vale
As he should be. The excoriation of James Hird is one of football’s great shames. Unlike another recent high profile case Hird had never actually been “convicted” of anything.

Notice that the people who love to rubbish Adelaide rarely live here? Comments like these are simply a reflection of the person gazing in the mirror. Of course apologies are tendered when a career is threatened.
So what is the difference between this incident and the the one last year when Port were fined $100k for allowing Aliir Aliir back on the ground after assessing him and clearing him? This will be a test.

The neglect of Tasmanian football by the AFL is a national disgrace. The state deserves -indeed has earned - its right to have a stand alone team. Keep fighting the good fight.🤜
Confronting it already with the same courage and determination that epitomized his footy career and every other endeavor that he pursued. He won’t be beaten- never was.
One of the most ridiculous officious game-changing decisions I’ve ever seen. It simply can’t be defended by saying “It’s a free kick”. Most impressive however was Daicos; “Reset”, as he pulls an understandably angry Crisp away.
So let me get this right. This showdown can’t go ahead because the AFL won’t use SA umpires. Ridiculous. Our SANFL umpires are more than capable. Could it be the AFL is worried that the SA umpires will highlight just how good they are compared to their AFL counterparts?
Jobe Watson: "Unequivocal evidence (it was a goal). Do you know anyone we could speak to at the AFL?"
Hamish McLachlan: "He's on the phone about the goal!"
Besides the “look”, no one has ever offered any proof that James Hird did anything wrong, or illegal, or contrary to the WADA code. A sad travesty of sporting justice.
Former Bombers coach says ball-tampering trio's actions were more destructive than the implications surrounding the drugs scandal Hird was embroiled in.

One of the greatest lies in this whole sorry saga is that the Essendon players didn’t know what they were taking or being injected with. ASADA has a list of at least 16 substances that players told them they were taking. Thymosin is one. TB-4 is not

The Facts are that no-one actually knows what was injected, no records kept (shredded) and injections done off site... Seems legal, NOT. Records MUST be kept. As soon as no records provided, it's Guilty.

One minute there are complaints about lack of transparency. When Roo tells the truth he is criticized. All player contract should be made public anyway- as they are in pro sports in USA
We often talk about the courage and heroics of sportspeople. Indeed those qualities have many facets. Fair enough, but this is what true courage and true heroism looks like.
Plenty of people wanting to shoot the messenger but the video evidence is clear. Had a “groping scandal” happened on a Crows pre-season camp the media would be in meltdown
I have no interest in pursuing this but facts need to be stated: Hardwick told me on Friday he has no knowledge of the incidents. Now he says he dealt with it two days earlier. One of the player’s managers seemed genuinely not to have heard of it on Friday
Absolutely ridiculous. The player’s head does not move at the supposed point of contact, then a long second later he throws himself backward like those soccer players that we ridicule.
