AGAINST EVERYONE WITH CONNER HABIB 277
The election is sucking up attention, distracting us from thinking bigger than the state to face our time of crises.

The Palestinians are lying and
The protestors are lying and
Jewish Voices for Peace are lying and
All of Ireland is lying and
Doctors Without Borders are lying and
Amnesty International is lying and
Everyone is lying except
the people indiscriminately killing people.
Is this the biggest Dublin match yet? I took this a half hour ago and the we’re nowhere near the end of it. People still coming in waves.
God bless you Ireland.

I am a gay Arab.
I can plainly see that those celebrating killing Palestinians don’t care about LGBT rights.
So when they say “how can you support Palestine? It’s anti-gay!” I know what they’re saying is, “we’ll kill you for being Arab or gay, which do you prefer to die for?”
Americans fretting that their democracy will die in the next election are like the mom who gets eaten by a zombie because she still thinks it’s her son.
Please reflect on how Arabs, especially Palestinians, are supposed to feel about comments praising a political party that’s murdered their families.
Particularly comments that rely on variations of “it’ll be worse for you if you don’t get in line.”
Bullied by straight people in high school, harassed by straight people on the street, watching straight people pass laws based on hatred.
And you know what? I still had sex, wrote, made friends, fell in love, and fought their bullshit with the shape of my life.
Fuck them. Be gay.
I read this essay when it came out, and think about it every year around this time. This year I searched and saw it was behind a paywall at the New Yorker; but google images brought up a tweet from
@SanSip
so I/we owe sone gratitude for the cropping a few years back.
LGBT people choose desire, love, and pleasure in the face of oppression.
No wonder we’re thought of as dangerous: we won’t give up on who we are even when threatened or subjected to violence.
And we will never give up on ourselves or each other.
Love. Strength. Peace. 🏳️🌈 🏳️⚧️

Having lived in the US and Ireland:
The way people respond to Israel/Palestine in Ireland - a country which has been (is) occupied and has had to come to terms with using violence to expel its colonizer - could not be more different than even the “good” responses in the US.
Four years ago today, I moved to Ireland. I’d always wanted to live here.
I was 41 and left an old version of me behind.
It was a big, lonely, scary challenge.
It was also a huge affirmation of my own life and worth.
Wherever you want to be:
Start today.
The moment I realized I could write Hawk Mountain as a horror novel - even though it's closer to books shelved in the "literature" or just plain "fiction" section - was the moment I overcame all my fear.
Horror gave me courage.
Thank god for horror.
We need it.
BBC presenter says, aren’t the bombings Israel is defending itself?
Daniel Levy, who is a former adviser to Israel's Prime Minister says
“Do you really keep a straight face when you say that? ...these kind of lies"
I hope people can take this in and be at least as clearheaded.
We do not know how to care for people willing to show the rawest expressions of human emotion that expose us all.
This is a deep terrible loss.
Rest in peace, Sinéad O’Connor.
When I consider that I am one of the only adult performers, ever, to “cross over” and be as recognized for work that is NOT sex- or adult-related, it is not with pride but anger at how hard it was to do.
I can only hope what I’ve done makes the path easier for others. 1/2
So far, my debut novel Hawk Mountain has been named a best of 2022 audiobook by Audible, a best crime/thriller of 2022 by the Guardian, and a best crime fiction of 2022 by The Irish Times. So, obviously: a great year for literature! 🪶🏔️ 😍
Telling millions and millions of people that a global mass movement for peace is actually a hate movement is the last gasp of a dying empire.
The only move they have left is more violence, aimed at those who won’t be gaslit, to inspire fear and obedience.
Don’t let it shake you.

Unsurprisingly, then, Irish people have far less difficulty condemning violence while still seeing and understanding violence’s context.
Also unsurprisingly they almost universally express solidarity with Palestinians - without giving in to simple nationalist one-sidedness.
I realize a "we told you so" is unhelpful here, but the groomer and trafficking panics are exactly what sex workers have been trying to inform the left and everyone about for years.
These panics have been fomented by everyone who did not listen to sex workers.
So start listening.
Just saw Melancholia in the theater (where it really must be seen) again.
It is the cosmic horror masterpiece of our time, and, I think, the most accurate evocation of depression I’ve ever seen.
While we center Palestinian lives now as our most urgent concern, the protests also serve as message to anyone who supports state violence, xenophobia, racism, fascism, and casual western exceptionalist cruelty.
We’ve fucking had it with all of you.
If it’s not obvious to anyone by now that this is (and had always been, every single year) a direct pipeline to “groomer” discourse created to harm LGBT people, then we’re beyond willful ignorance and into actual alliance with desk killers who murder by policy. 1/2

One thing I’ve learned from Irish people is that it takes more than simply “standing” with a country and its people.
It takes reckoning with violence itself - what has been done to you/what you’ve done - to find a path beyond it.
So few in the US (or UK) have done that.

If you’re taking Amy Schumer and Sarah Silverman to task for supporting genocide, be sure to include so-called geniuses like Thom Yorke and Nick Cave who have both made very public choices and comments contributing to ethnic cleansing.
Buddhism has long been the tool of militaries everywhere, teaching mindfulness to soldiers so they can massacre innocents without connecting to their humanity.
If all you experience is the present moment, you can watch a child’s skull explode and merely observe the colors.
“Be cool, without compassion or mercy.”
An Israeli Zen master and meditation teacher, Nissim Amon, gives mental and practical tips to Israeli soldiers who he refers to as “princes and princesses” in an instructional video guide to becoming a “super fighter”
Reminder re: Bernie Sanders.
What he represented to us was OUR collective vision of a better world, OUR solidarity.
His cowardice doesn’t change anything except that he can’t be a part of this better world we’re creating right now.
