will mev boost be the only wide adopted mechanism for out of protocol proposer commitments? absolutely not, @DrewVdW and @ralexstokes envision validators making multiple different types of commitments about tx inclusion, pre-confs, and more, in the future.

commit-boost becoming widely adopted software is one of my high conviction preconf predictions. At a minimum, it's at feature parity with mev-boost, at better performance. The vision of faciliating preconfs / last mile communication is ofc much larger and feels on-point.

2/ Today, most blocks stacked in Ethereum are built via validators running an extra piece of software to tap into the proposer builder separation protocol (β€œPBS”). This essentially lets validators outsource block construction.

2/ While this all seems great, the challenge is that many teams building commitments are creating new sidecars driving fragmentation, increasing core development complexity, and potentially creating risks around participation / validator lock-ins.

1/ Why is Commit-Boost being built? A common denominator is emerging: in the future, proposers will face a broader set of options of what they may β€œcommit" to–be it Its or preconfs or other types of commitments –compared to just an external/local payload they see today.

6/ Innovators started to realize that there could a solution to this question by augmenting the current PBS protocol. The challenge was, nearly all the teams pursuing this idea were doing it through their own version of a different software that validators would need to run.

9/ Commit-Boost is a unifying piece of software that acts as a platform to standardizeΒ only how a signature on a shape to be included in a block is provided. With this platform, validators run one piece of software but get to opt into many shapes to be part of the block.

11/ Commit-Boost is not a protocol, gatekeeper of who/what types of shapes are constructed, specifying how shapes are aggregated, or many other things we have seen stated; Commit-Boost standardizes how validators sign-off on a shape and provides safety tools around that process.

4/ PBS has been widely adopted, but comes with trade-offs.Β When a validator taps into PBS, even though they have the monopolistic right to stuff the block, they commit to deferring this right to another actor and along with it, nearly all atuonomy around how the block is packed.
