The volume of coffee produced in Uganda increased from 4.5m in FY2015/16 to 8.1m in FY2020/21 an increase of 78%. By region, Central is the biggest producer at 2.83m bags, Western - 1.99m, Eastern - 1.8m, South Western 1.05m & Northern 0.45m. Karamoja is picking up too.

Uganda exported 469,951 - 60kg bags of coffee in Jan 2020. 377,182 were of Robusta while 92,769 were of Arabica. Italy was the biggest importer of Ugandan coffee, importing 32%. It was followed by Germany 18%, Sudan 14% and USA 6%. Check graph for more details. @KigoziMaggie

Coffee exports in March 2021 were 572,839 bags worth US$ 53.52m compared to 562,763 bags worth US$50.55m in Feb 2021.This is the highest amount of coffee Uganda has ever exported in a single month. It's also an increase of 19% & 16% in qty & value compared to March 2020.

The UCDA team also met youthful entrepreneurs, Joseph Kojo & Brenda Apil, owners of a coffee nursery in Oyam (since 2017). Through technical support they mastered coffee propagation, enabling them to purchase 7 acres, build a home, pay school fees & establish an irrigation demo
