18 years of a full time job.. we had him at a very early age and it all worked out. Yesterday was the most happiest and saddest I’ve ever been. Seeing him wave goodbye from the dorm door crushed me.
@_TraStover
know I am proud of you and I love you. You’re officially in college.
Thankful for the coaches around me. We made a plan and stuck to it. This was a great year and something to build off of. The boys were amazing and bought in to our style/philosophy. I love what I do.

All the hard work paid off son. Your mother and I couldn’t ask for a better gift than what you have been to us. Beyond proud of you!! I love you
@_TraStover
. Thank you
@APSUCoachSW
and
@Da_DREAM47
for believing in him.
@GovsFB
we are ready 👌🏾
Just wanna drop some knowledge to High School football players. You better get serious about your craft because the transfer portal is killing y’all. It’s getting harder to get scholarship due to it. Remember that when you want to skip reps or workouts.
We love that you are living your dream. All the hard work you put in from youth league until now was worth it. You’re mature enough to make your own decision. Your mother and I are proud of you
@_TraStover
. Grind even harder now. Love you Son!!!
You wanna know why strangers support you more than people you know? People you know have a hard time accepting the fact that you came from the same place, while they are still in the same place.
When the head and position cosch take time out their Sunday to help move your son into his dorm and also play some Mortal Kombat with ya… I know
@_TraStover
made the right choice.
@APSUCoachSW
and
@Da_DREAM47
are some real ones. We love

God may have given you the talent to be a 5-Star recruit, but a coach’s/parent’s job is to help you become a 5-Star person. That’s hard; it means no enabling, no babying. Great people push you out of your comfort zone & hold you accountable. Everything else takes care of itself!
Sports Roles:
Coach-you coach the team
Player-you play the game
Referee-you officiate the game
Spectator-you watch the game & cheer for your team
Some parents need to take a step back; your kids won’t play forever. Just sit back, be proud, enjoy these moments & know your role!
Unbelievable playoff atmosphere this weekend in Arab. Over 1,000 came thru the gate for this weekends matchup with Alexandria. The “Rooftop Rowdies” really enjoyed cheering on the Knights! We are very thankful to our fans, our students, our administration and our city for the
Camp Season advice… don’t waste your time at a big university that isn’t recruiting you, especially if you’re a 11th-12th grader. 1. Go to camps that have reached out to you. 2. Go to camps where they need your position 3. Always start small and move up.
How you do anything in life is how you do everything. Name a player who’s late for class, disrespects their teachers/coaches/parents, never keeps their word, doesn’t complete school work, always has a bad attitude/excuse, but is otherwise a great teammate. Don’t worry, I’ll wait!
PLAYERS: Whether you are starting or sitting on the bench, your team is your team. It's "we", "us", and "ours", not "they", "them", or "their". Win or lose, playing or sitting, you are responsible for being a good teammate, positive leader, energy-giver, and verbal encourager!
Coach
@D_Richardson_
has brought a boost of energy that our program needed. The weight room has been rocking, and the boys believe in what he is saying. Their numbers keep going up which gives them confidence. He brings a lot to the table. We are lucky to have him.
@DHCA_Football
Shout out to the big uglies aka the hogs. It all starts with the line. They have to fight every play, whistle to whistle. These guys are putting in work.
Don’t be the player who is too cool to go hard. Whether in a workout or a game, 100% is the bare minimum. Cool has no place in the game. Cool won’t impress anyone, won’t get you more playing time, won’t ever get you better. Cool will keep you on the bench. Cool will get you beat!
We made the adjustments we needed to from last year. Coaches and players bought in to the system. These young guys are growing up. Now we can call ourselves Region Champs. 7-1 (5-0 Region)

You gotta love the grind in order to be a high school coach. There is a lot of layers to it. Dealing with players personalities, parents, teacher, also while taking care of your home life. It’s different!! I Love It!!
You can buy your kids a phone; pay for college, a car. You can buy sporting equipment but you can’t buy their success. If they want it, they have to earn it. Success isn’t easy. The “price” comes with a lot of extra work, trials & failure.
There’s always a price to pay for greatness. If you’re waiting for it to go on sale, it NEVER will. It’s very simple. The price of getting better is deliberate daily habits. Don’t just write down your goals. Write plans of action & hard work. Don’t chase what you want; BECOME IT!
It’s 2 boys basketball teams in North Alabama that probably don’t have as much talent as top schools but will get after you for 4 quarters. Hartselle and Decatur Heritage. Fundamentals are at a high level at both schools.
You find out a lot about kids’ toughness & character with how they respond to conditioning. Are you the player who says “I’m hurt/sick. I have a test/homework. I have a game/plans this weekend”? Or are you the player who says “I’m ready!”? It’s obvious who’s serious & who isn’t!

I use to wonder why high school coaches was so to themselves. Man you have to be locked in all week. I find myself not responding to text popping up on my phone while I’m watching hudl. It’s literally like I don’t see it, then run across it the next day.
Shout out to
@JCJetsFootball
and
@CoachMcgehee
for donating trap bars to our program. This is going to help us a lot this Spring/Summer. We are very appreciative.

You can choose how to spend your summer. You can choose to chill or you can choose to work & improve, but when the popcorn is popping & those seats are filled, we will know what you did all summer by what you do next season. The part timers get exposed under the bright lights!!
Coach McGee is the perfect representation of Decatur Heritage. The morals and values he place in these young men’s lives are second to none. He has always stood in the shadows but worked hard for every sport he has coached. We are beyond blessed to have you as a part of our Staff
Every moment you spend with your teammates & coaches competing on the court, in the locker room, on the bus & during practice are times that will never be duplicated in your life. All too soon it comes to an end, so cherish the moments of accomplishment, camaraderie & friendship!
2 types of coaches:
Those who:
Coddle
Tell you what you want to hear
Don’t hold you accountable
Don't believe in you
Let you go through the motions
Those who:
Tell you the truth
Encourage
Challenge
Hold you accountable
Inspire
Demand excellence
ONLY 1 gets you ready for LIFE!
Don’t be that player who is too cool to go hard. The way you do anything is the way you do everything. Whether in a workout or a game, 100% is minimum. Cool won’t impress, won’t get more playing time, won’t get you better. Cool will keep you on the bench. Cool will get you beat!
Your coaches are watching you every day. This off-season will tell them a lot about who’s committed to improving/growing/working hard & who’s only interested when it’s convenient for them. There’re no secrets. You can & will only be great at what you’re willing to sacrifice for!
Y’all stop comparing y’all kids with other folks kids. Let them be the best version of themselves, not the version you trying to force due to other kid’s abilities.
Parents: The influence you have on your child is infinite. One conversation or snide comment can ruin the substance of your child’s team. A team sport needs each player to support the team effort. Don’t tear that down. Support the entire team & let the coaches handle the coaching
So proud of this kiddo. A year and a half ago I would have said I didn’t know if basketball was for her. Through determination and hard work she has improved tremendously. It ain’t always about talent because there are players who bust their tails to get better. Let’s Go Kynleigh
My first year playing football was 4th grade for the Danville Seahawks. I wore number 21 and pops got me a blue bandana because I wanted to be Deion Sanders. Man this is a amazing moment.
Every team has a best player. A great team’s best player is also their hardest worker. The best player has the extra responsibility as a leader to show others how to prepare & work each day. People don’t follow talent. People follow grit & the consistent habits of excellence!
Man it isn’t anything better than seeing that kid that really want it. Go through the grind and don’t just talk about it. Parent not making them want it. Those kids are just different.

So proud of the young man

Parents you can buy your kids a phone; pay for college, a car. You can buy sporting equipment & uniforms, but you can’t buy their success. If they want it, they have to earn it. Success isn’t easy. It’s gritty & hard. The “price” comes with a lot of extra work, trials & failure.
As a leader, you have to live out the standard you are trying to hold others to! No one will respect you (as a leader or otherwise) if you hold others to a higher standard than that to which you hold yourself.
Coaches should never have to coach your effort. Whether it’s practice, games or weight room, discipline yourself to give your best without being coddled through it. Anything less & you’re just fooling yourself. There are no hidden secrets to improvement! It takes what it takes!
Felt good to be back on the field. The Jr. High Eagles competed high level. 14-0 against 7a Albertville, 0-0 against 4a Westminister ( 2 TDS called back). 20 min games running clock, played back to back.

Part of maturity is realizing that your choices affect your life. If you want your situation to change, then make different choices. Making excuses/blaming others is a waste of time & makes you look irresponsible/immature. Choices are part of life. Think 1st & choose wisely!
Parents are you teaching your kids that “it’s all about them”? If you care more about your own kid’s success than the team’s success, that’s what you’re teaching. It’s the wrong message. The world won’t ever be all about your child. Prepare them by teaching them to value others!
You want to expand your team role?
Be early/stay late
Rep game actions
Communicate well
Know every drill/play
Be positive
Watch more film
Do the little things
Keep great body language
Be enthusiastic
Stay in great shape
Defend
Be a great teammate
Compete/play hard
Keep learning
Kids have to learn to dig deep, struggle & fight their way out of adversity. You can put them on every kind of competitive team, get them a trainer/the best equipment/extra practice, but if they can’t claw their way past troubles that WILL come, they’ll never develop as athletes!
