January 25, 2000, D'Angelo released his classic sophomore album “Voodoo”. Still as evergreen, forward-thinking and innovative as ever.
What’s your favourite cut from Voodoo?

vinyl collection, we're looking back at our years of hard work that have transformed into Amapiano, Afro Tech, and more. This musical journey has not only shaped beats but also driven economic growth, paving the way for generational wealth.

Surely the SIU is watching old Top Billing episodes, with coffee & biscuits. My brothers used to parade their ill-gotten wealth in full public view without hesitation.
I get the whole idea of multiple streams of income ne because of the financial anxiety that comes with being alive & affording stuff, but this idea of monetising all of our interests and hobbies is not normal.
Remember when we were spoilt in terms of cultural/educational programming on the public broadcaster SABC: Street Journal, Afro-Cafe, L'atitude, Precious Afrika, Jam Sandwich- etc…Nostalgia
Bab’ Khoza’s voice dances like a flame, bright and flickering, but steady, never engulfing it’s beholder nor burning out. Nduduzo Makhathini’s instrumentation accompanies him on a mesmerising journey ✨
Les Nubians- Makeda 🎼☕️
Can't speak a lick of French but will always enjoy this. Smooth vocals, good instrumentation, surprisingly slick mixing and layering.
The Brother Moves On are really on one of the greatest runs in modern South African music history and I’m convinced that they’re not getting the coverage they deserve.

🇿🇦 ✌️May the Black Band tradition will never die!!
Artwork sounds used to make some premium house music, their early work remains criminally under-appreciated. I understand the crossover to make music that has more commercial appeal. Was listening to their 2020 EP, Searching Part 2 & can confirm that George is a beast.
If you could only listen to ONE song from each of these Artists for the rest of your life, what you picking?

The reason I’ll always listen to house music is pretty simple. The genre is simply engineered for good times and moments of bliss. Devoid of complications and mostly joyous- the subject matter always revolves around romantic love, unity & the quest for happiness. ❤️
Josh Milan brought the house down last night, what a show. S/O

Was also chilling with the greatest South African producer of all-time, Bra Bruce Sebitlo. 🎉🎯
While I love the convenience of streaming music- I dislike how it has made the consumption of music an entirely atomised ordeal. It has ceased to be a social experience. It’s become an individual act devoid of communion: that’s why we must attend concerts, sessions religiously…
We deserve this reclamation of Comrade Chris Martin Thembisile Hani. A big shoutout to Kujenga, IPhupho L'ka Biko for immortalizing him through song. May this tradition live on!

Shazam is one of my favourite app innovations. Everything else has either been unnecessary or has had catastrophic negative effects despite being well intentioned. That’s peak tech development right there 😅
I'm surprised Kujenga isn't mentioned more in the RSA Jazz community. They make probably the most approachable and contemporary sounding jazz music out of anyone. They’re going to blow up this year and rightfully so.
Had a sobering visit to the Apartheid Museum this morning. Johannesburg is a city of extremes. On one side of the street is a theme park and on the other is the Apartheid Museum. 🏛

The "GOAT" Zwane has been in & out of the national set-up over the years and has only really excelled in the last few years but all of a sudden everyone has subjective memory, they want us to believe that he hit the ground running from day 1.
Time passes & heroes leave for another life we don’t know. Thank you Uncle Jimmy Cobb, for your musicality, swing, humility & that cymbal stroke in Kind of Blue. The record that opened my door to jazz.

Did a bit of painting with Mi Amor tonight and I still pledge my solidarity with the people of Palestine 🇵🇸
