Villanova Observations #MarchMadness #1 . Absolute commitment to two-foot stops. #2 . Every foul call against them they clap. Not in mocking, but in applause. (Don't obsess, play on) #3 . Constantly be readjusting your spacing to make yourself available for a kickout.

23 Zone - Merrimack Some interesting teaching points and nuggets in here. Coach Gallo has had a ton of success at Merrimack with his version of the 23 Zone. Specifically in their limiting of the three-point shot.

Transition Offense Design We want our transition offense to be a way to create advantages and a way to cleanly flow into our half-court offense. I want to think about 3 concepts: ▪️ spacing & roles ▪️ advancing options ▪️ how to flow Here is how I typically design mine: ⏬

Fun dynamic warm up today at SALA’s after school program. Both players must stay outside the triangle. One player designated the chaser who must tag the other player on the back. @SALAschools #Afterschoolprogram

Drive & Space Gam At the heart of your drive & space game is the "chair drill". If you go back and look at your film I would be willing to bet the majority of your kickout shots come from these three scenarios. I think it makes a lot of sense to drill these 3 concepts daily:

Press Break | "Stretch" One of my favorite press break adjustments is to simply move into a 212 alignment and "stretch" the defense. Instead of keeping him in the backcourt we push him into the frontcourt and use the extra space. Let's look into the "why" & some options:⏬

Two-Week Preseason Plan From the first practice to the first game we have essentially two weeks to prepare our teams. Here's my "macro-level" plan for that timeframe: ▪️ color designation ▪️ phases covered ▪️ points of emphasis Doc 🔗 -

🗣 Decision making w/ guided defense 🔎 Straight line layup or 2nd move series: 🦁 @EliteAcademyAnt Guided defence, 2 options: ▶️ give him a straight line towards the basket and contest the finish or ▶️ take away straight line and force him into a 2nd move

Morning Thought ☕️ I like the idea of having multi-sport athletes on the roster - I think there are benefits to that. But if you don't have a core group of hoops-first guys you're in trouble.

Drive & Space Layer One way a coach can impact the game without calling plays every trip down the floor is to build a better drive & space layer in practice. Here are the 6 teaching points I would get after: ⏬

This is the other Advantage Transition Drill that I really liked from the Boston College Fast Break Concepts Video. Start with an advantage, Use it to Score, get back on defense. #FindUseCreate #Flow
