Why do we spend time putting down other programs instead of promoting our own? Stop putting down other programs to convince people to come to you. Players and parents should be asking what your program can offer, not what others can’t..

If you are someone who schedules 99% of your games against weaker competition, including multiple 30+ point blowouts… you need to re-assess what your goals are. It’s almost never beneficial for anyone involved. Growth happens through adversity.

2 things I observed this weekend at an AAU tournament. 1) we live in a very selfish culture. It’s all about the individual play 2) the egos in these gyms are huge. For a lot of parents and coaches… they find a way to make it about them instead of the kids

3) Parents are delusional. Too many parents are truly uneducated when it comes to some of this stuff. They actually think that their child is good enough to play at South Carolina. Like no… your child is playing on court 62 at 9:50pm against a team who can barely make layups.

It’s funny how many are confused by wins and losses. I’m going to take a 13-12 record with a mentally prepared team over a 24-1 record with no competition. If we ever want to be one of the top programs in the area, we have to play the best.

3) SPACING. One of the more difficult parts of the game to teach, but one of the most important aspects of the game. The teams that were most successful this week, had great spacing. The teams that had great players but poor spacing, struggled. We need to TEACH better!

2) The amount of travels, double dribbles, air balls, moving screens, jumps balls, 1 handed jump passes that I saw this week was unbelievable. Call me cliche and cheesy but my goodness can someone put an emphasis on fundamentals.

First July AAU tournament in the books and these are just my simple observations: 1) the coaching at some of these games is embarrassing. Coach your girls. Stop worrying about the officiating. It’s going to be bad. These girls deserved to be the priority.

I have to ask this question and I’d love to hear some of your thoughts. What do you consider as qualifications of a “knockdown” 3pt shooter? In my opinion, you shooting 20% on 2 attempts a game in high school against average competition at best is not going to translate.

Definitely adjust your system based off of personnel. College, you have a little freedom to recruit players who fit your offensive philosophy. Always run what is most efficient for your personnel

3) very few kids understand how to separate themselves. There are over 10,000 girls here competing for opportunities. Make the right read, have great body language, play with passion, communicate clearly, be a great teammate, sit down and guard your man.

Last thing: South Carolina out-rebounded Iowa 49-25 (26-5 offensive) and yet Iowa still won the game… don’t talk about the refs. The opportunity was there for both teams. Such a great game! Goodnight ❤️🏀

2) the amount of money that is being made from these tournaments is unbelievable. Court 85 in a separate facility is not necessary. Travel basketball should be for athletes who actually have a real shot to play in college. But I understand how much money it brings in.
