On Monday I am starting a new position as Assistant Director of Development and Alumni Communications at my alma mater SUNY New Paltz!
In this role, I will be the editor for SUNY New Paltz's alumni magazine. I am excited to continue to share my work!
I've been recently promoted to Senior Reporter at Digiday's WorkLife 🥳🎉 I am so excited to continue to cover the future of work. 260 stories down at WorkLife over the past year or so and many more to go! Thank you to everyone that has worked with me during this time 😁
Life update: Aug 16 will be my last day at Digiday Media's WorkLife. I had a good run, publishing over 400 stories over the past 2+ years. I am excited for my next chapter, consisting of a new day job (sharing soon!) and writing future of work stories on a freelance basis.
Just came across my new favorite OOO auto email: "Did you know that 46% of American workers left vacation time unused last year (including me!)? In an effort to be one of the 54%, I will be out of the office until August 6th."
LOVE this. Perfect little stat + encouraging PTO!
When I'm asked to send over Qs ahead of an interview, it's frustrating. But it's 10x more frustrating when a PR asks for that when THEY pitched the story!
Journalists, when a source asks you to send a link when the story is live, what do you say? I try to when I can, but if I'm bombarded with a million other things, it doesn't feel doable to keep track of everyone I need to send a link to
I’m still shocked when a PR person asks for a copy of the article before it goes live. Someone dropped that Q on me at the start of a Zoom interview today … 😩
Are people still not taking WFH seriously? Why is their still a belief that people who work remotely aren't actually working or that they can be interrupted at any time? I would love to hear from someone who is still running up against this!

I am officially signing off until 11/27 for a much needed rest and recharge. I'm looking forward to Thanksgiving aka eating well and hanging with my friends and family. See you on the other side, and Happy Thanksgiving to you all!
WorkLife is prepping for its 'day in the life' series for next month and we need your help! Do you want to share your day in the life? or have a client who is a good fit? Fill out our form here!
Don’t pitch me something and then tell me the person has no time in the next week for a phone call interview and can only do written commentary….. cmon people! 😤
Next week is officially my second year anniversary at Digiday Media's WorkLife. In that time, I have written 420 stories, launched WorkLife's TikTok account, hosted two seasons of The Return, and so much more. To commemorate, I'm sharing a few of the pieces I am most proud of🧵
I interviewed
@mcuban
(!!!) about his very first class on MasterClass "Win Big in Business." We chat about why he decided to make the class, what tips he has for entrepreneurs, and why he hates corporate buzzwords.
I am hosting Season Two of The Return, a podcast about what motivates the Gen Z workforce. I am excited to announce that the trailer is officially out today and the first episode will be live on Oct 18. It’s been a labor of love for the past 10 months!
I'm looking to speak with CEOs about how fast leadership is changing in today's day and age. Leadership is having to be reimagined on the fly and different styles of leading are having to adapt. How will this impact future/new leaders?
#journorequest
I am looking for sources to speak about AI adoption. Any surveys around this would be helpful to show how much employees are actually using AI, versus just saying we have a new AI tool. I'm also open to any stories about how you're really using AI on a day-to-day

Pitches over social media, yay or nay? You all know I’ll take them, but my preference includes switching to email ASAP. Thanks for the inclusion in your piece
@talkingbiznews
Big snaps to the pr person today who reeled her client back in after going on for 15 minutes about background on the company, especially when sometimes I feel rude interrupting the source to get to the next q!
Is it actually possible to be at inbox zero? I'm looking to talk to folks who do this and how they get it done, as well as people on the other side of the spectrum who have thousands of unread emails.
#journorequest
This tweet really took off, which told me it was definitely worth doing a story on. Check out the finished piece here: Thank you to all who responded to help paint the picture of this ongoing challenge!
Are people still not taking WFH seriously? Why is their still a belief that people who work remotely aren't actually working or that they can be interrupted at any time? I would love to hear from someone who is still running up against this!

The loneliness epidemic is still ongoing for remote workers, who are by far the most lonely at work. I am looking to speak with folks early next week about the realities of still working remotely, esp as you watch other people go back and meet work friends etc.
#journorequest
If you’re going to pitch me a new story idea, pleaseeee start a new email thread! I cannot keep track of a new story idea when the subject line is about something completely different!
Aside from business news, I got my first colposcopy last week and it was an absolutely horrifying experience. The most information I got was from Reddit. I want to write an article about this for a health care pub on what to expect + interview gynos. We need more info out there
Super excited to see the WorkLife team continue to grow! Give Hailey a shout with pitches and tips or just to say hi. She’s looking to build out a solid, go-to source list as she begins reporting for WorkLife. 🤗🤗🤗

I was so excited to be a guest on the
@weearnmedia
podcast. I chatted about how I’m grateful to PR folks who take the time to figure out the perfect WorkLife angle with me, how I’m more likely to respond to PRs I’ve built a relationship with and also some of my ongoing pet peeves
Talk to anyone in PR & you'll learn quickly that the path to securing coverage is hardly linear... Today's guest for
@weearnmedia
,
@CloeyCallahan
recounts one such example.
It’s not out of the ordinary for a source or pr contact to ask me how I do it (it=writing 3-5 thoroughly sourced articles a week, while on social, hosting a podcast, curating a weekly newsletter). The truth is it’s not done without the occasional wave of absolute burnout !!!
I'm looking to speak to career experts about when the right time is to make a career pivot. What are the signs beyond burnout? Deadline mid-day tomorrow!
#journorequests
Any experts around tomorrow or Friday morning to discuss how a $100,000 salary feels more like $60,000 now. It used to feel like a big accomplishment to reach six figures, but that's needed now just to survive rising costs of living.

Just went to a panel at my Alma mater for media students graduating next week looking to make connections. To exchange contact info, they asked for our INSTAGRAMS. This is wild to me. What happened to LinkedIn? The youngest gen Zers are truly happy to mix profesh and personal!

Add it to the list: I am storytelling in a new format! Yesterday, I told my first ever live story (The Moth style) at a local storytelling event in the Hudson Valley. It was exhilarating to get up in front of a small crowd to tell a personal, true story in under 6 minutes🙌🙌🗣️🗣️
I am gearing up to work on a couple of HR/AI stories.
1. Case studies of how AI adoption is being audited. Really getting a handle on the status of how it's being used.
2. Is the influx of HR/AI tools just creating white noise or is it helpful?

I was talking to a source the other day who brought up creating a brag book for yourself. I realized I haven't been keeping that close of a track of my work accomplishments. Does anyone else have one? Or some sort of running doc? Am I way behind here?
I am hosting another podcast! This one will be focused on middle manager madness. I am looking for multiple sources to interview. Please reach out if you are a middle manager who:
-can discuss how they've taken advantage of AI to make their jobs easier
-has recently been laid off
I'm looking to speak with people this week who have examples of how AI is minimizing their work relationships. Even small changes, like not asking your colleague for answers because you can ask ChatGPT.
