'sRunning!
As the campaign officially starts today, I am thrilled & proud to announce that I am standing to be the LD Prospective Parliamentary Candidate at the next GE. You can read more about me, my vision for the city & how we win in Cambridge here:
A fabulous day in mid-Bedfordshire today with Team Cambridgeshire! Residents are disgusted by Nadine Dorries and clear that the
@LibDems
are the ones to beat the Conservatives here.
About this weekend...
I'm honoured to be selected as the next
@CambridgeLDs
candidate for the next General Election.
So excited to get to work sharing our vision of an internationalist, fair and open society.
Fantastic to see both our local parliamentary candidates
@pippaheylings
and
@CllrPayne
supporting our pro-housing amendments at conference!
Young people in Cambridge and South Cambs. deserve a liberal alternative, that will deliver on housing!
I started my PGCE in 2011, a year later than I planned, as the govt cut all training bursaries for my subject. I worked 3 jobs to save up for the course. The current system is unsustainable. This is why I'm standing for
@LibDems
, who would fund Initial Teacher Training.
This is a damning indictment of the Conservative government’s neglect of education in this country.
Figures revealed by
@MuniraWilson
show recruitment for secondary school trainee teachers overall was at 50 per cent of what was required last year.
Just because something is popular doesn't mean it's right. I spoke at
#LDConf
about the egregious Illegal Immigration Bill. The only way to "stop the boats" is to provide safe, alternative & legal routes for the most vulnerable people fleeing war and disaster.
I've found it incredibly difficult to decide between our 2 fantastic candidates, but as we enter the final few days of the
#LibDems
Leadership election, I'm voting for
@EdwardJDavey
Here's why:
It's on! I'm standing to be the next MP for Cambridge. You can read more about why I'm standing, & what
@CambridgeLDs
stand for here: or sign up to help or donate! Excited to get (back!) out on the campaign trail.
I am so happy
@CambridgeLDs
were able to play a part in bringing this about. While Priti Patel's rhetoric around refugees becomes more toxic and divisive, I am proud that Cambridge values decency and humanity.
Cambridge City Council
@camcitco
has committed to resettling 200

#Cambridge
in the first five years after the reopening of a government scheme.
THANK YOU to all who supported us in this campaign!
On
#AskHerToStand
day, I'm reminded of winning my council seat by 25 votes in 2018. My next election will be to be MP for Cambridge. Thanks today to
@rodcantrill
who asked me to stand & nudged me out of the door - that's the difference asking the question makes.
#5050Parliament
Pols are open! Today I'm standing to be MP for Cambridge for:
- A country that is part of Europe.
- A fairer democracy.
- Investment in our future.
Whatever happens today, I have hope tomorrow will be the start of something different.
It's a night for a Lib Dem gain! 🔶️🔶️🔶️🔶️ Welcome to
@camcitco
to Immy, already a huge force for good in her community and now across Cambridge too.
@CambridgeLDs
City Group is so thrilled you will be joining us!
Out in Linton with
@pippaheylings
and this amazing team today! It's so clear the race here is between more of the same with the Conservatives or a fresh start with
@LibDems
.
It's been a weekend full of wonderful Liberal people! It was fantastic to join
@CamUniLiberals
and friends visiting from D66 this weekend. Turns out,
#PR
is better for everyone.
#fairvotesnow
Super excited to start work as Honourary Vice President of
@YoungLiberalsUK
- thank you
@JaneyisLittle
for the welcome. Looking forward to supporting some of the most talented Liberal voices of the future.
Huge congratulations to everyone who has been elected to roles within the Young Liberals! It is a very exciting time for the organisation and we have an immensely strong team as we approach the general election
🚨 Announcing the PricedOut Advisory Board...
We have assembled a cross-party team of industry leaders, local champions and policy experts.
Making house prices affordable should not be a political issue - and the following people agree 👇
Listen to
@MaryRegW
, she always knows best. Massive good luck to
@EmmaMidBeds
and team today - sorry I can't be there but the Cambridge Crew are packing up the brownies ready for action!
LibDems. You all know I don’t do bullshit. And that I know data.
Unlike other recent by elections, Mid Beds really is on a knife edge. This is possibly the one by election where it will come down to who runs the best polling day operation.
This was
@CambridgePride
. Amazing to represent
@CambridgeLDs
at Pride today and share in the joy and inclusively. I'm proud to represent a party who have always stood up for equality and progressive values. You can read more about our record here -
Really enjoyed being part of a panel with all of the Cambridgeshire
@LibDems
parliamentary candidates at
@CambsLibDems
conference today - what a team, ready to deliver the very best for Cambridgeshire.
@IanSollom
@heidiallen75
You Liberals are a wonderful and courageous bunch. I'm really sad to see you step aside
@IanSollom
, but your dignity is such a refreshing example.
Have really enjoyed the discussion and debate about policies and our positive vision in this General Election. However it's just sunk in that we can kick the Tories out today and that's pretty sweet too. Out in St Neots to send
@IanSollom
to parliament!
Took a detour to Ely this evening to support local governor & ex-soldier
@robpittely
- first door was a Lib Dem voter needing a lift to the polling station! This is why we knock up on polling day!
@LibDems
Thanks so much for inviting me to speak at the Green Schools Conference - fascinating discussions with brilliant young people about how we tackle climate change.
📣Parkside Social Action Group are proud to present the first ever Cambridge Green Schools Conference. ✳️
To support the event, taking place on 1st October, we need your help! Please follow the link to contribute to the event.
#LibDemConf
raised the roof for the incredible
@EmmaMidBeds
this evening - if you haven't been to Mid Beds yet, it's time to limber up for another
@LibDems
by-election win.
Labour Chair Gerri Bird just used her first casting vote since joining the joint administration
@CambsCC
to support the Tories & re-open Mill Road Bridge to cars, rejecting an amendment which would have allowed blue badge holders access, thus addressing the only concern she gave.
Honoured to speak at the
@CamUniLiberals
dinner last night.
@CambridgeLDs
really value our close partnership with you, and look forward to campaigning together in the May local elections and beyond!
Thank you
@Eddington_Camb
- completed my first
@parkrunUK
with you this morning. Lovely atmosphere and great to spot some familiar faces. Very welcome coffee afterwards too!
Brilliant to be joined on the doors in Newnham by
@English_YL
and
@ChangLiu_E
today! Residents clearly really appreciate the hard work of
@CambridgeLDs
all year round.
Local politics affects us every day, and all residents should be able to influence and shape it. Thank you
@the3million
for the work you do to champion equal representation for all.
Do you feel represented at the local level?
We believe all local residents should have a say on local matters affecting them directly.
If you're a local representative & you support voting rights for all your residents, share your views using

Cycled along Mill Road this weekend on my lovely
#ebike
. As a *fairly rubbish cyclist* the lack of cars has been brilliant, and meant I definitely hopped on my bike rather than got in the car when heading to the station. Due to

As a teacher, I don't feel like a nation builder today. I feel like an exhausted failure, battered by this impossible system. But this kind of recognition gives me hope, keeps me going and makes me feel that some politicians care. Thank you
@joswinson
Our teachers are our nation builders. Liberal Democrats will invest in 20,000 more teachers and budget an additional £10 billion for education.

One of the best things about a polling day has to be the
@CambridgeLDs
whatsapp groups full of support, positivity & lifting one another up as they turn the vote out for a brilliant candidate. So proud to be part of this team today - made it from work for the final push!
Classic Conservative power grab for headlines. If the Tories want to help us build in Cambridge they could:
💧Bring forward plans for water infrastructure.
🇪🇺 Sign the Horizon agreement to support our sciences.
☎️ Ask how they can help with the 50,000 homes already planned.
People in Cambridgeshire are still arrested for sleeping rough. No one chooses to spend Christmas in the cold. That's why I've launched a petition to oppose the Government's plans to criminalise rough sleeping in the new Criminal Justice Bill. Sign here:
Almost didn't believe this at first. 36 homes in Darwin Green are to be demolished due to an issue with the build. There needs to be an I dependent enquiry into what has happened, and residents deserve reassurance on what is going to happen next. My comments below 👇
Another great afternoon in Queen Edith's today supporting the brilliant Immy Blackburn-Horgan to be the next
@CambridgeLDs
City Councillor. Her record for the community is incredible -
Great to see this coverage of
@CambridgeLDs
motion on sewage and water quality in this week's
@CambridgeNewsUK
The Lib Dems have made this a national issue & I look forward to seeing our new government responding to these concerns.
Well, that was wet... The obligatory selfie when you forget to check the weather forecast before canvassing in East Chesterton with
@CambridgeLDs
today.
Thank you
@AJRMcCann
&
@ChangLiu_E
for joining us in Castle today: had a lovely sunny afternoon chatting to residents about the difference Professor Caroline Stoddart's experience & common sense will bring to the Council.
The streets of

have a message for
@SarahGreenLD
today - its close! Great conversations with Conservatives, Labour & Green voters, all recognising the need for change with he

Great to join
@CambridgeLDs
in Chesham & Amersham today canvassing for the fantastic
@SarahGreenLD
. Everything is pointing towards this being an incredibly close result, and a chance to show the Conservatives that the historic blue wall is no longer safe.
Great to be back out in West Chesterton today with
@CambridgeLDs
Councillor
@JamieLDL
, discussing everything from congestion to potholes to cats with residents. Lovely to chat to people!
I am so proud to stand alongside such dynamic, articulate and fundamentally kind people this year. Castle ward is a wonderful community, and Castle Lib Dems will work to support, maintain and strengthen this if elected on May 6th.
We are incredibly proud of all of our candidates standing in Thursday's elections. Here is our fantastic team in Castle - City Councillor and deputy leader
@CllrPayne
is joined by city candidates Michael Franklin and Caroline Stoddart, and county candidate Alastair Gadney!
Plans for the future of the 90 year old Shire Hall building and its historic site in Cambridge City will be reviewed at the first meeting of the new Cambridgeshire County Council Strategy and Resources Committee on 6 July.

🗑Political achievement of the week: a new bin! We noted that along the whole stretch of Madingley Road, there was not a single bin (but still quite a lot of litter!) Our new resident is here on trial for 3 months to see if he is used enough to be made a permanent fixture.
This is so true - sorting out issues, big & small, for our residents is what
@CambridgeLDs
are here to do! Thanks
@ALDC
for your regular encouragement & support -
@CllrTimBick
& I appreciate the showcase!
Why is casework important?
Simple: because it's good to help people!
Some people will need us to advocate on their behalf. As Lib Dems, we're ready to represent our residents all year round – no matter how 'big' or 'small' the problem is! 📝
Woman power for

: Ingrid and Nadya engaging with residents under a (relatively) blue sky. Nadya would be a great asset to our team, as a local resident, mother and with her expertise as a passivhouse architect.

I haven't quite made my mind up on the leadership yet, but
@EdwardJDavey
is certainly right: without
@CamUniLiberals
we couln't have achieved our huge majority in Castle. You are such a delight to work with, & I can't wait to be out on the doors with you when it is safe to do so!
Last year Freddie Poser mobilised student activists in huge numbers, both for local elections (increasing the LD majority 20 fold in their ward) & for the GE where students knocked 10,000s of doors.
He knows what it takes to engage members & deliver a winning message.

Privileged to listen to

County Conference this morning, speaking on devolution, proper funding & powers for local govt & electoral reform.
Thank you
@CamUniLiberals
- such an honour and a joy to work with you all, and housing is just one example of issues where we need to include and listen to the voices of young people in politics.
Our PPC
@CllrPayne
leading by example!
Cambridge is a thriving city full of opportunity, but our housing shortage holds us back - driving up rents and pricing out residents.
CULA is proud to support Cheney, a pro-housing candidate who can deliver for students and young people.
With Christmas just around the corner, my thoughts turn to those who will spend it on the streets, where they still risk arrest for being homeless. Here's my blog on why I am petitioning the government to scrap the

as an example of the kind of politicians we should all aspire to be. I learned a lot from him about how to be a city councillor, but more from his kindness, his compassion, & his drive to do the right thing for our community.
