Adviser to OSCE Vice President I Councillor for Chalfont St Giles, Seer Green, Jordans & Coleshill
@BucksCouncil
I
@Conservatives
Area Chairman for Bucks.
Utter nonsense.
Our rights & protections will be decided by the MPs we elect in future elections. If a government 'slashes' them, we can boot it out.
This is a poor attempt to hide Labour's real Brexit position - they won't accept no deal and there's no deal they will accept.
Having reviewed what has been agreed, it is clear that the Johnson deal is a far worse deal than Theresa May’s deal. It paves the way for a decade of deregulation. It gives Johnson licence to slash workers’ rights, environmental standards and consumer protections. 3/
There are only 200 chalk streams globally, 9 of which are in the Chilterns.
Judges have ruled that the public should be consulted on the impact of HS2 works on our globally rare environment.
@BucksCouncil
&
@ChilternsAONB
are seeking full disclosure and a public consultation.
Two
@BucksCouncil
by-elections today...and two
@Conservatives
victories!
Congratulations to new Farnham & Burnham Beeches councillor
@davidmoore2283
and new Hazlemere councillor
@Steven_Roy77
👏 👏 👏
Look forward to working with you both on Buckinghamshire Council.
I'm pleased that
@BucksCouncil
has introduced on-the-spot £400 fines for fly tipping - the highest amount allowed by central government. As a local councillor for
@StGilesVillage
, this has my full support.
I'm delighted to have been appointed as a member of the Chilterns Conservation Board
@ChilternsAONB
.
As one of the
@BucksCouncil
representatives on the Board, I look forward to working with the team to conserve and enhance the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
.
@BucksCouncil
Cabinet members have signed off a plan to plant 543,000 new trees on council land over the next 10 years - one tree for every Bucks resident.
This project will help to restore our environment, improve air quality, boost biodiversity, and offset carbon emissions.
High View Appeal Rejected!
The Planning Inspector has thrown out a developer's scheme to build 40+ properties at High View in
@StGilesVillage
, which he said threatened "substantial harm" to the green belt.
A great result for our village & everyone who campaigned to protect it!
I'm delighted that
@StGilesVillage
residents have approved the
@CStGilesPC
Neighbourhood Plan by 961 votes to 88. This plan ensures the highest possible protection for our green spaces, controls on new housing & strong support for local shops.
Along with a prosecution rate 10 times the national average, this is one of the reasons why
@BucksCouncil
has a reputation for being tough on fly-tipping.
Scrap fly tipping? Yes we van!
This vehicle was involved in a fly tipping prosecution, and so has been destroyed- smashing work!
(Scrapping in this way is the most cost effective solution- it cuts down storage costs and we only do so if the sale price is low).
@BucksFlyTipping
After a great effort by volunteers,
@StGilesVillage
has been named the Best Kept Village in Bucks!
We won the Tindall Cup, a 'best of the best' competition between villages which won an award in 2018.
The cup will be presented on Saturday 14th Sept @ 1pm on the village green.
Another 3 bags of litter collected in
@StGilesVillage
this afternoon.
Is there a proven scientific link between (a) thinking it's OK to drop litter and (b) enjoying the taste of Red Bull, or is it just a coincidence?
Asking for a friend.
@KeepBritainTidy
.
We're lucky to have so many excellent pubs in this area.
It's been a tough year for them and now they need our support.
Breakfast at the
@JollyCricketers
in
@seergreenbucks
was a great start to my weekend!
Another week, another fly-tipper caught by
@BucksCouncil
!
A man who dumped bags of compost on a country lane has been fined £2311 after being caught on camera by the Council.
Fly-tippers take note: if we catch you, we will do everything in our power to punish you.
I was delighted to be appointed Deputy Cabinet Member for Health & Wellbeing on
@BucksCouncil
at this afternoon's AGM at
@SMStadium
.
Congratulations to
@MATatBucks
on being elected council leader and to new council chairman
@ZahirMohammed3
.
*** Action on Seer Green Road Flooding ***
Works this week will boost drainage capacity on School Lane to prevent flooding - part of
@BucksCouncil
's £4m drains programme.
Cabinet Member for Transport
@BroadbentSb
(2nd from right) joined me to discuss what needs doing next.
I'm delighted that
@ParadigmHousing
's plan to put 42 properties on green belt at High View has been rejected.
'Protect St Giles Green Belt' did great work to oppose the scheme. Objections from 500+ villagers were also vital.
This is a victory for our village!
It was brilliant to see
@StGilesVillage
so busy this morning as local people support our local shops.
Great to have the River Misbourne back - the village centre never feels complete without it. Well done to the River Misbourne Action group for clearing the channel in time.
More steps on the road to a cleaner & greener Bucks!
The council tip on the Amersham Road is getting:
✅ 136 new solar panels
✅ New beehives, bug hotels & bird boxes installed
✅ Wildflower meadow areas planted for insects
✅ 6 new electric vehicle charging points (pictured)
.
@BucksCouncil
waste teams use hidden cameras.
They go through fly-tipped waste to find clues.
Thanks to these efforts, the fly-tipping prosecution rate in Bucks is 10x the national average.
Criminals will not be allowed to dump waste in our beautiful county with impunity.
Chrystian Junio Assis Riberio, 23, from Sleaford Green, Watford, pleaded guilty to a charge of illegally dumping waste at Brawlings Lane, Chalfont St Peter, Buckinghamshire, when he appeared in front of magistrates at Hatfield Magistrates Court on 26 July.
It was a pleasure to meet with representatives from
@guidedogs
UK at
@MiltonsCottage
this morning to learn all about their inspirational work and chat to the people they help to live more independent lives.
Good to see the gullies being cleaned out on Bottrells Lane in
@StGilesVillage
this morning - part of a multimillion programme to clear every gully in Bucks in the next year.
John Milton was blind when he dictated Paradise Lost.
Today
@MiltonsCottage
held a fundraising tea party for the sight loss charity
@guidedogs
.
It was great to catch up with Guide Dogs volunteers and watch their demonstration team who showed what trained guide dogs can do.
.
@BucksCouncil
is trialling a new material to repair road defects - made from recycled tyres!
The new material does not require noisy machinery or cutting into the highway.
Trial sites will be regularly inspected to assess how the well the new material works.
After weeks of training, today was the day of the
@RoyalParksHalf
Marathon.
@AbigailHammerto
finished in 2:20:28 and I finished in 2:00:44.
Thank you to all our friends and family who sponsored us and helped us to raise £705 to support the amazing work of the
@epilepsysociety
!
The 🌞 finally comes out for the
@StGilesVillage
Coronation Street Party - a fantastic community event in our beautiful village.
Thanks to the hard working committee which organised everything.
This image shows Chalfont St Giles in 1883. Note the tree on the High St.
Known as Milton's Elm, it stood opposite The Elm Tree pub.
After closing c.1915 the pub was demolished & replaced by the building where Albert Warner founded the butcher’s shop which still bears his name.
In the last 24 hours, it's been a pleasure to chair the selection councils which chose
@iainastewart
as the
@Conservatives
candidate for Buckingham & Bletchley and readopted
@SteveBakerHW
as our candidate for Wycombe.
Looking forward to joining them both on the campaign trail!
I was pleased to welcome our local
@Conservatives
candidate,
@CherylGillan
, to High View to hear residents' concerns about
@ParadigmHousing
plans to develop the site.
I will continue to work with local campaigners to protect our greenbelt.
Tonight it was the turn of beautiful
@seergreenbucks
to switch on its Christmas lights.
Combined with a BBQ and beer from the
@JollyCricketers
pop-up bar, there are worse ways to end a weekend!
And if it's Sunday, it must be
@ToryCanvass
in West Drayton. Feeling positive on the local election campaign trail with the
@Hillingdon_Tory
team. Looking forward to a good result on May 3rd!
#ToryCanvass
Feeling ready for a beer after spending Saturday campaigning for
@paulbristow79
in
#Peterborough
& today playing for the
@StGilesVillage
Tennis Club men's team in our 5-3 victory against Gerrards Cross Dukes Wood.
It's fantastic news that Buckinghamshire has one of the highest recycling rates in England.
In 2018/19, 153,152 tonnes of rubbish were recycled in Bucks. That is 58% of our county's waste - well above the national average of 43%.
I am pleased to confirm that, after being closed for refurbishment, Chalfont Leisure Centre will reopen on Saturday 19th December.
Visitors will benefit from a larger gym with brand new fitness equipment, brand new immersive cycling studios and larger group exercise studios.
Many congratulations to
@JordansVillage
Store on its 100th birthday!
The store has an excellent range of products & the fact that it is thriving after 100 years is a credit to generations of Jordans residents who have kept this community asset going.
Congratulations to beautiful
@JordansVillage
on being presented with the Leofwine Shield for being Buckinghamshire's Best Kept Village in its centenary year!
As a local councillor it is my heavy duty to support local businesses like our village pubs 😁 🍺
The folks at
@WhiteHartCSG
in
@StGilesVillage
have done a great job of improving a previously bland patch of concrete. They do a good pub lunch in a sunny beer garden too.
Another great community event in
@StGilesVillage
. Carols on the village green, church bells ringing, and the Christmas lights switched on!
Thanks to
@CStGilesPC
for organising everything & Hemel Hempstead band for the festive music.
It was a pleasure to join
@ChilternOAM
Director Sam Hatfield, Verena Clark &
@StPeterVillage
County Councillor
@CllrDavidMartin
for an update on the museum's latest news. There is lots to see and do at the excellent Chiltern Open Air Museum in
@StGilesVillage
this summer!
It was an honour to lay a wreath in
@seergreenbucks
in memory of those who lost their lives in the World Wars, and to pay tribute to those serving all over the world in our armed forces today.
#LestWeForget
I'm delighted that Janet Scholfield has been awarded the Posthumous Lifetime Achievement Award in Bucks.
Janet was a stalwart at CSG tennis club, where she ran junior tennis for 20+ years, and a huge part of village life here in Chalfont St Giles.
Abi and I are running the
@RoyalParksHalf
Marathon on October 13th to raise money for
@epilepsysociety
.
If you fancy supporting the charity's amazing work, you can visit our JustGiving page using the link below. Any donation will be gratefully received!
Today I have submitted my objections to the deeply flawed
@ParadigmHousing
proposal to build on pristine green belt land in
@StGilesVillage
.
The application is part of a plan to build 90 properties, including blocks of flats. This is the wrong number of homes in the wrong place.
Last night I joined a call with the Protect St Giles Greenbelt Group. For a year we have fought Paradigm's plans to build on greenbelt @ High View.
The Council rejected the plan but Paradigm appealed. The hearing is in May. We'll present our strongest case to defeat the appeal.
I was pleased to lay a wreath on behalf of
@BucksCouncil
at the
@seergreenbucks
Remembrance Service this morning.
Dozens of villagers attended, and there were some excellent readings from local children.
To celebrate
@StGilesVillage
winning the 'Best Kept Village' Award a band will play on the village green from 12-3pm this Saturday 14th.
Chairs will be provided so you can sit back, relax & enjoy the music.
At 1pm the cup will be presented. This is a FREE event. All welcome.
Congratulations to
@stgilesvillage
residents Louise Chamberlain & Ellie O'Connor on winning a 'Community Hero' award for supporting villagers during the pandemic.
The 'All Together Community' group continues to support villagers. If you could help, visit
.
@BucksCouncil
has one of the best records for catching fly-tippers, but harsher punishments are needed.
We have called for the Sentencing Council to allow:
- much larger fines
- fly-tippers to bear the cost of cleaning up the mess
- automatic prison sentences for 2nd offences
Spotted in
@StGilesVillage
this morning: 2 travellers on their way to Bethlehem.
The fact that they're in Buckinghamshire with 6 days to go until Christmas doesn't say much for the donkey's built-in SatNav, but you can't have everything.
Fantastic news!
The Pushman Cup is awarded to the Best Kept Village in Buckinghamshire with a population of more than 3000.
Well done to everyone who volunteers to keep our village beautiful.
Chalfont St Giles village has won the Pushman Cup in the Best Kept Village Competition. This is a great accolade for the village and is a credit to the Parish Council and all the volunteer organisations that help to keep the village in award winning condition.
The potholes on Mill Lane,
@StGilesVillage
, have been filled.
This is the first stage of the repairs. A full 'plane and patch' resurfacing will be booked in for later this year.
A lovely message to receive on a Thursday night while doing
@BucksCouncil
emails!
Finding housing for vulnerable people in Bucks is not always easy, but it's great when the effort of councillors and officers pays off.
It's Village Tidy Up Day!
@BucksCouncil
councillors,
@CStGilesPC
members & other public spirited volunteers joined forces to tidy up the village this morning.
Got to get the village looking smart ahead of the Best Kept Village Award judging!
It's a fine day for a litter pick!
@BucksCouncil
will collect waste from litter picks if groups contact them in advance. Litter picking gear can be borrowed.
Visit to register your event.
To see how the Council can help:
A sunny Feast Day of Saint Giles was the perfect time for the annual
@CSGShow
. Thank you to everyone who came along, and to the small team of volunteers who organise this wonderful celebration of English country life.
Joined a positive Protect St Giles Greenbelt committee meeting tonight as we work to defeat
@ParadigmHousing
plans for a large estate on wildlife-rich greenbelt @ High View.
@BucksCouncil
rightly rejected the first application. Paradigm's appeal hearing is in 2 weeks.
Leafleting in Yiewsley as the final weekend of
#LocalElection2018
campaigning draws to a close. Hoping for a great result for the
@Hillingdon_Tory
team on Thursday!
Double awards for Jordans in its centenary year!
Congratulations to
@JordansVillage
on winning the Leofwine Shield for being the Chilterns' Best Kept Village.
Also, Jordans Picture House won the 'Best Single Event' category @ the All Film Society of the Year Awards!
Why has
@SarahGreenLD
funnelled £120,000 of taxpayers' money to a company run by the Vice Chair of Chesham & Amersham
@LibDems
& based in a small office which is also listed as the HQ for at least 25 other companies?
Boost for Bucks Nature!
The Government has picked 48 areas to trial a Local Nature Recovery Strategy, and Bucks is one of them!
High quality natural habitats cover 13% of Bucks. The LNRS will⬆️biodiversity & help
@BucksCouncil
consider nature recovery in planning decisions.
Congratulations to The
@JollyCricketers
in Seer Green for being nominated for a Best Pub Award at the Countryside Alliance (
@CAupdates
) Rural Oscars! Great to have you within walking distance of
@StGilesVillage
!
I enjoyed meeting Wendover's 'Grow to Give' team of allotment holders who donate their surplus to local food banks.
Last year 100 growers donated 1600kgs of food. I'm delighted to approve new
@BucksCouncil
funding to help local growers share 2500kgs of fruit & veg this year.
A beautiful sunny morning to spend amongst the bluebells of Hodgemoor Woods for a litter pick with
@CStGilesPC
& Coleshill Parish Council.
A great turnout and and amazing amount of litter picked in just 90 minutes!
*** Food Waste Update ***
.
@BucksCouncil
's separate food waste collections for the Chiltern area restart from today. Please put food waste in the brown bin.
Thank you for your patience over the last few weeks.
New funds to stop roads flooding.
@BucksCouncil
has released an extra £500,000 to clear 2,000 high priority gullies, dig new ditches, and repair broken drains.
This will speed up the existing gully cleaning programme, which plans to clean all 80,000 gullies across the county.
An anonymous donor will match any donations made to
@MiltonsCottage
between now and noon on 14th December.
Thanks to this offer and support from the
@heritagelottery
, any individual donations will therefore be QUADRUPLED!
