Pretty classy move by WWG coach Jenniges. Saw Wilhelmi needed 1 point to get to 1,000 with under 30 seconds left, had his team foul him for chance to get it at free throw line.
Sounds like Windom baseball lost a huge supporter today. Don Jackson did a lot of the work to restore Island Park after the 2018 flooding. A big, big loss for our community.
It appears Windom has a new head girls basketball coach. Pending board approval, Jacob Johnson will take the helm of the Eagle program. Johnson was Windom's b-squad boys basketball coach this season.

Parker the Weather Boy turns 17 today. Got him a new Team Dominator shirt that he hasn't modeled yet. But he's been Team Dominator since the beginning!
Windom Junior Henry Erickson broke another Eagle basketball record tonight…most points in a single season. Erickson is currently at 546. Previous record was 539, set by Jeff Pfeffer in 2016.
Windom Coach Farag just told me that the last time Windom played on Saturday of the Section playoffs, four members of the current coaching staff were playing.
Our friend Eugene, or H as the kids call him, directed his final concert at Windom tonight after 33 years directing band. My daughter Maddie got to perform in his final concert.
Minnesota Newspaper Association awarded Joel Alvstad with the first-place award for sports reporting, the second year in a row he has won this honor, for weeklies 2,500-5,000. Congratulations Joel, you deserve it! -Trevor Slette, Publisher
According to a man who has probably forgotten more sports history than I'll ever know -- Les Knutson -- this year is the first time since 1989 that Windom is in the sub-section finals in both girls basketball and boys basketball.
Of all the coaches who have helped shape my career as a journalist, few have been more professional and helpful than Ron Wendorff. Congratulations on an outstanding career and much-earned retirement! Enjoy running around after those grandkids!

This is Kate. Kate doesn't let a physical disability keep her from doing what she loves... hitting treys like a boss. Be like Kate.
Windom's Gracie Bucher finishes 22nd at the Class A state cross country meet with a career best time of 19:36. By finishing in the top 25, she earned ALL-STATE honors!
I didn't get to attend the open house in person, but I want to wish
@dirk943radio
all the best as he heads into retirement next week. You'd be hard pressed to find a guy in small town radio who is more skilled and professional. Congrats and thanks Dirk!
Also, congrats to Patrick Green and Shelby Erickson, who were presented with their Section 3A Triple A awards prior to last night's game in Worthington! Two outstanding Windom Eagle students, athletes and artists!
Windom's Delaney Smith just broke her own school record, the state qualifying standard and the section meet record on her first shot put throw of the day...42-11 3/4. She's going to state!
Big loss for the Windom community today with the passing of Joe Carpenter at age 97. Joe was a fixture at Eagle sporting events up until last year. I often joked that I wouldn't hold his love of the Iowa Hawkeyes against him.
You don't get much hotter at the plate than
@WindomSoftball
freshman
@HuskaKaitlee
was this past week. Huska went 14-of-17 at the plate with two HR, 4 2B and a 3B. She also scored 10 runs. Eagles went 4-1 in those five games.
It seems a bit stunning for me to say this. 25 years ago today, I took my first post-college job as sports editor of the Cottonwood County Citizen. A lot has changed in 25 years, including my marital status, family, hairline, waistline and job duties, but I'm still here.
Congrats to Henry Erickson, Chayton Struck and Drew Rothenberger on being named All-BSC in baseball. Honorable mention to Brady Espenson and Quintin Tietz.
@WindomBoysHoops
has overtaken Park Center and is currently the state’s highest scoring team, regardless of class. The Eagles are averaging 91.7 points per game after putting up 111 tonight against Luverne.
My co-workers and I felt the Windom boys bb team could have been that prototypical "team no one wants to play in the playoffs." With 7 straight wins, including over top seed Luverne tonight, I'd say our hunch was right.
Travis Muller, a motor sports enthusiast and past Winter

competitor, was critically injured in a farm accident this weekend and had to have both legs amputated. A GoFundMe has been set up to help his family.
I can’t tell you how much Coach Kelly taught me about basketball and life! For every hour of practice he had to have put in three preparing us for the next game, he was a legend! RIP coach
I'm going to throw this out there so people can make a comparison.
The MSHSL website is 100% useless. No schedules, no rosters, no information.
This is the SDHSAA website. Within a couple of seconds, I can find a roster, schedule and results for any team.
Windom's Allison Letcher and Delaney Smith have been named Academic All-State in girls bb.
Ethan Nickel of MLAC and Ethan Mischke of WWG have been named Academic All-State in boys bb.
Bad news all around today. Just learned that former MLA girls basketball coach and longtime assistant Larry Hempeck passed away. Prayers to his family.
