A few years ago the club invested in a defibrillator & training. Last Friday a member of a society had heart problems.Quick thinking from 2 of our lads John&Chris got the device & saved this gentlemans life. Thankfully, he is recovering in hospital. Well worth the investment now.

14/4 Also, for anyone who's interested, today marks 22 years for me at Chorley Golf Club. I started on 14 April 1998 which coincidentally was a Tuesday after Easter like today and coincidentally the course was shut that day too, due to snow though and not for some stupid virus.

Big thank you to one of our members Bob Forshaw. He's our go-to man for stuff like this. Quirky but effective device for safely retrieving your ball from the hole. A cork for where your putter will lift it. Cost -18 bottles of wine 😁 P.S. greens not that slow a 3 wood required😄

21/11. Tree felling on 2nd is to return the shape of the hole to as it was intended. From the architect drawings you can see it was intended to be a dog leg right to left if you look at the approach line, this job has achieved that, also improve the views of the surrounding area.

3/11 This demonstrates the issues we have on our construction style of green, especially when original clay base is close to surface. Last night's rain was a good test with soakaways full in most but empty where we found our drains. At least it has somewhere to go which is good.

Bradley makes his mark in the Manchester and District Golf Alliance at Styal. Chorley pro Mark Bradley, enjoying a win with 39 points. The picture below shows just how shocked Manchester Alliance Captain Dave Green is Mark’s winning score. Well done Pro.

8/4 After a wet March it's a relief to see some dry, sunny weather in time for the Mens Opening Medal. Greens cut, holes changed and blocks/bunkers checked. Some more fairways cut also.

8/11 Thankfully, we have been able to continue the works left of 13th green as we can access the site via the lane to the clubhouse. Today, drains added into the area. Coming across a stone culvert along the way. This is now running where it wasn't before.

19/11 Digger driver in to look at wet spot on the 12th fairway. Turned out to be only job of the day, nearly a "what have I started?" Job but turned out ok Found blocked pipe in wet spot then traced it to blocked main on 12th fence line. Roots cleared & all flowing, plenty water.

Frozen ground has its advantages. Able to get out with materials & machinery with minimal damage. Drain near 4th green finally stoned up & drain in fairway now ready for turf. Spoil picked up when thawed. Digger back out investigating 8th drains & 1st ditch cleared on right.

5/12 8am Unfortunately, temporary greens again today. It may look like the frost has cleared but it is still in the ground 1/2" down. Now is the most critical time for protection of the greens to prevent root shear.

13/9 As the law states...a slo-mo of the top dresser in action on maintenence day. Because, as we know, without a slo-mo video did even actually happen😄

20/2 Water getting off the course ok via the main ditches and the pipes that feed these ditches. Problem is it can't keep up with the volume of water coming down from above. Last 3 days - 48mm (about 2") Last 7 days - 77mm (3") This month - 167mm(6.5")

7/11 @DiggerduncTPL back in today down at the 13th. Turned into a big job on the main drain running along the fence line as this is where we're running the drain from the left of the green. Blocked by tree roots so needed to sort this and drain the greenside bunker on the right.

2/8 Another miserable day, when will it end? Managed to finish cutting rough/semi rough. A day of strimming jobs & changing spikes on sarel roller cassette. Thanks to the contribution from the 200 club we have purchased 7 bin/ball washer combos. So put these together & out today.

19/11 Proper Autumnal morning, the pleasant version. Dew brush greens only for it to form again soon after, leaf blowing as standard and general check of the course.
