The belief that refineries will lead to cheap PMS is not supported by facts. Nothing major produced in Nigeria has ever been cheaper than the foreign alternative. Not sugar, rice, textiles, flour, or even cement. Importation of PMS will be banned and we will pay more eventually.

I am tired of the myth that refineries in Nigeria will make PMS magically cheap and solve the subsidy issue. USA has crude oil and multiple refineries, yet PMS is about 700 naira per liter. Refineries will not solve the subsidy issue. Only political will and good policies can.

Kadaria, there is a big difference between public policy and private advice. Live within your means is lousy public policy though it may be good private advice , like eat all your vegetables. Public policy should be concerned with improving lives and not in accepting hardship.

The gradual dismantling of subsidies by the Buhari Administration is well advised. It was unsustainable, and this policy adjustment though late in coming is the proper economic decision. We must not oppose good policies in the name of political opposition.

H.E Atiku Abubakar was a public servant and rose to the top in Customs. He then became a businessman and rose to the top. He also pursued politics and also rose to the top as a 2 term VP. I am amazed that anybody can question his competence and capacity. He will be great Pres.

My analysis of election outcome based on the following assumptions. 50% turnout, SE 80-20 Atiku,SW 55-45 PMB,SS 80-20 AA, NC 65-35 AA, NE 60-40 AA, NW 70-30 PMB. AA wins by 18 million to 15.5 million votes. We must ensure that all votes count, and are protected. Happy New Year.

Some thoughts for 2019. 1.Presidency of any nation is not an entry level job. 2. Facts are non-partisan. 3. Good policies lift everyone while bad policies only benefit very few. 4. Love your country not its leaders. 5. Finally, reject leaders who don’t improve your lives.

Kemi Adeosun claimed that dollar debt was much cheaper than naira debt. So 20 billion dollars at 8% will cost 24.8 billion dollars after 3 years or 9.4 trillion naira at 380. 20 billion at 15% using 306 costs 8.9 trillion after 3 years. 500 billion naira, wasted by incompetence.

Revenue drives by Government without growing the overall economy is simply a transfer from the private sector to the public sector. Since the public sector is far less effective with funds, this becomes a net negative for the economy. It is ill-advised and must be reconsidered.

The obsession with the nominal value of the naira is naive. We can create a new naira equal to 1000 old naira and voila we are at 1-1 with the dollar. Rice would then be 440 new naira a bag but minimum wage 300 new naira. 1m in the bank becomes 1000 new naira. Nothing gained but

During my meeting with FICAN on Monday I recommended that Nigeria ban all clothing sewn abroad after 3 years. We can embark on a massive training program for tailoring during the transition period. This could provide employment for many of our idle youth.

Not really. I think it goes to the heart of issues of honesty and integrity. It is important that our leaders tell and/or show the truth. It’s like marrying a bigamist for example, finding out later and saying it doesn’t matter because you are already married.

@emekachuks_ Compulsory masks in public. Enforce social distances, limit cars to 2 people, limit gatherings to 10 people. Keep airports closed. Establish more food banks. Water tankers to distribute in poorest neighborhoods. Just think Nigeria not USA or Europe.

My tweet yesterday was honestly asking a question, the answer of which I believe any patriotic Nigerian would care about. I made no accusations or inferences. After all the comments, and some insults, the question still stands.

I believe that the PDP should focus and nominate their Pres Candidate with two main considerations. Firstly, who is most qualified and prepared to rescue the nation? My top 5 are Atiku, Saraki, Kwankwaso, Dankwanbo and Sule Lamido.

According to INEC there is a 700,000 difference between Accredited voters and total votes cast.Given simultaneous accreditation and voting ,that difference needs explanation. People will not wait for hours for accreditation and then walk away from the 5 minutes needed to vote.??

The increasingly successful savagery of Boko Haram terrorists against our troops evokes great sadness and concern. I call on the Pres, and all political leaders to declare a politics-free day to honour and grieve for our gallant soldiers and their families. Retweet if you agree.

We must adapt our response to this crisis, as most Nigerians live on a day to day basis. We cannot blindly import Chinese or American solutions. Death by starvation is just as bad as by virus. FG must create and distribute food packs as a matter of urgency. We need thinkers now.

Can remittances build bridges, roads, power plants, infrastructure? If many people buy generators with remittances for example, wouldn’t that drive up the price of diesel? They may be necessary but focus should be on economic growth and productivity

@ChikeMustafa The World Bank said that Nigerians remitted $22billion home in 2017. Are you saying that that amount is a chicken feed? That figure was almost 80% of our 2017 national budget. If we didn't oil to sell ro earn foreign exchange, I can't think of a better fx earner.

Incoherence. 4. Everybody in 2015-APC/PDP agreed that 3million jobs needed to be created annually to bring unemployment to acceptable levels. We have instead lost 4 million jobs annually in the last 3 years. How can we trust APC now on jobs, given their dismal record so far?

Much of this damage was done during Kemi Adeosun’s disastrous tenure as Minister of Finance. The current MOF was dealt a terrible hand by her immediate predecessor and has been valiantly trying to stop the bleeding. Will be tough but she deserves support.

Incoherent economic policies— 3. Debt service to FG revenues was about 30% in June 2015. In June 2018 it is over 60%. At this rate, all FG revenues would be used for debt service by 2021. No money left for salaries, or for capital development. NEXT LEVEL we can’t afford.

We need to be accurate. Two Presidents recognized her. GEJ going so far as to make her coordinating minister of the economy an honour never before accorded. She is deserving and we should all enjoy this appointment as it honours all Nigerians. No negativity please.

This is unbelievable. Hasn’t he heard about tax anticipation bonds? Governments or municipalities issue bonds in anticipation of tax revenues and dedicate the taxes when received to repay the bonds.

I would advise the FG against any precipitate retaliation against this new USA visa policy. We need the USA more they need us, and a quiet dialogue is the best course. Trump will not be President forever, and we must be careful not to burn any bridges.

The currency adjustment was inevitable. The naira adjusts downwards by about 40% every 5 years. Many warned her against this recklessness. Now we all have to bear the cost and hope there is no further downward adjustments.

I have read the personal views of some Bank Chairmen on the windfall tax issue. Those views do not represent the banking community. BDAN will communicate its views after our board meeting on the 12th, on this and other very important issues concerning our community.

Absolute nonsense. The amount loaned to distressed banks was 620 billion naira, which was almost totally repaid by AMCON to CBN minus a few waivers, in 2010/2011. This is how policy makers are being misled by an ignorant/mischievous few in this government.

It's actually much worse than that. When the devaluation finally happens, the debt service to revenue ratio could climb to 90% due to the short-sighted policy of borrowing in dollars championed by Kemi Adeosun.
