Back in May 2020 when I started working seriously on chess again I was only rated 1900 but set the goal to become a master by the end of 2022. It took an extra year to achieve but I'm proud that I was able to pull it off in the most clutch way possible! 🚀

Recently I had the thought that since I'm approaching my goal of 2200 USCF I should not lose to sub-2000s anymore. A draw here & there is fine, but at least don't lose. Anyway here's me getting blown off the board by an 1800 in a local club G45 earlier this afternoon

Was looking back at some of my rapid games of the past year and realized I played a kid who recently won the Indian U12 National Championship 🏆 He was 1350 FIDE at the time I played him in October. He's now 1700 FIDE. Meanwhile on lichess he's 2600 blitz & rapid & 2800 bullet 👀

US Amateur Team East Day 3: Had to settle for a draw against a 1900 in round 5 after squandering a big advantage, but finished strong by dispatching a tired 2160 in the final round. A decent tournament for myself but an amazing one for the team which finished with 5/6!

Decided to practice this endgame against my student today (1600 rapid on lichess) and reminded him not to rush. In this position he blitzes out Kf4 walking into Ne2 but to my shock after Kf3 Nxg1 Kxf2 the knight is trapped and black is still winning 😲

World Open U2200 Day 3 recap: Round 4: Another smooth positional outplay vs sub-2000 kid Round 5: A long battle vs 2000 WCM where I was slightly better all game but she defended well & held the draw 🤝 Currently on 3.5/5, 40th out of 270+ people with 4 more rounds to go!

Charlotte Open U2200 final recap: Finished with an underwhelming 4/7, suffered a frustrating loss in Round 6 after losing control of a good position against a 1900. At least got to finish on a high by checkmating a seasoned expert in the final round. Lots to work on next year!
