On the eve of the new
@LeagueofIreland
season, we're back with the first CFTS article in this week's Derry News!
@derrycityfc
have caught the eye with the signings of Hoban and Kelly from Dundalk, but it's the man here with the boss that I think will be the shrewdest of the lot!
Team of the Week ⬇️
GK: Kearns
CB: Weir
CB: Molloy
CB: Radkowski
RM: Burns
CM: O'Reilly
CM: Chapman
LM: Jarvis
ST: Amond
ST: Hoban
ST: Mata
Super Sub: Danny Mullen
What do we think?
Currently writing this week's
#CFTS
Article, and it's one that NEEDS to be written!
For new followers, I'm doing a weekly column with
@DerryNow
- you'll be able to read them all online here every Thursday!
Keep an eye on here.
@McDonnellDan
Did a piece on this recently. The first step is a meeting between the clubs to stamp out LOI being the bargain bin of Europe for young talent.
Well, if you read my column today, I'll hold my hands up!
Some appointment by
@stpatsfc
- the vision to give this man a 5+ year contract should be applauded.
Stephen Kenny has been speaking on his appointment in Inchicore.
He meets some familiar faces in his first two games in Ruaidhrí Higgins and Damien Duff tomorrow and Monday.

Southampton have made a bid in excess of €500,000 for Waterford’s young star Romeo Akachukwu !🇮🇪
The Blues are keen to maximise the potential to earn from the sale of Akachukwu, while Waterford’s parent club, Fleetwood Town, also want his signature.
Manchester City and Arsenal
Since 2001, some 80% of the €1.2 billion generated form the betting levy, has been allocated to two dying sports - Greyhound Racing and Horse Racing.
This week, I discuss why football should get a share of the pot!
➡️
How can the FAI attract a top manager when they cannot even get their own house in order? This week's CFTS has me looking at how John O'Shea may be a stop-gap or saving grace for a failing FAI...
Also, I weigh in on the Messi vs Ronaldo debate.

Catching up on the domestic games in the North, and it's impossible not to feel gutted for Kevin Deery and his
@Institute_FC
squad. What a season they've had, and I have no doubt that this promotion attempt will bode well for the squad next season.

A very tight affair, but ultimately one which Derry will be content with considering second half performance. Not enough quality from either side. Half-chances, nothing to sing about.
Crowds through the first 5 weeks. Most clubs up on their 2023 averages.
A total of 90k through the first 5 series in 2023, so 87k with 2 games postponed is a good start in 2024.
Would be up circa +7% YOY with those games included. Interest still growing 👏👏
🗣 "I think the referee might actually be in trouble for not sending him off."
🗣 "That is not acceptable!"
Vinny Perth on Lee Grace putting his hands on referee Damien MacGraith in the first half.

Catch me on

today at 3:15pm, where I'll be joining the lads to preview this weekend's
@LeagueofIreland
action.
There will definitely be a few talking points!
This week's CFTS looks at what is needed to be a LOI manager, and I give my take on who I think should be given the Rep of Ireland manager's job.

Cameron Dummigan the next to depart, and looks of concern as he is stretchered off. Jordan McEneff replaces him.
Disastrous 10 mins for Derry's midfield.
Not the ending we wanted, but hard not to be anything but proud of this
@derrycityfc
side.
I'll be reacting in next week's column, but for now, it's on St Pat's in the FAI Cup
With Derry City bowing out of Europe last week, it concluded Irish sides' involvement this year.
This week's column touches on the importance of European football to clubs and how a joint approach is required to ensure clubs can perform better...
Coming tomorrow 📰
HT 0-0.
Even first-half but disappointing from
@derrycityfc
so far. Big second half to come with McEneff and O'Reilly adding energy to Derry since coming in. Two injuries the talking point, but improvement needed.
ICYMI: In this week's CFTS, I delve into how important it is to pick up results against teams in the bottom half, as the 'big' games look after themselves.

Big week ahead in the
@LeagueofIreland
as the Premier Division sees its' first double gameweek. Undoubtedly, the tie of the week is
@ShamrockRovers
vs
@derrycityfc
in Tallaght on Monday - in this week's
#CFTS
, I take a look at where both are, going into the game.
In this week's column, I'm gonna try answer the question:
Does the Irish Government even want to create a football industry in Ireland?
Let me know your thoughts below...
Looks like someone is nailed on... 👀
Said candidate is still in work so you would imagine it's once Lee Carsley gets over the 2 x England U21 games this month.
Want my thoughts on Carsley being appointed? Read them here:
In his first league game for the club, Pat Hoban already equalled the most touches taken inside the opposition box by a Derry City striker in a single LOI game in all of last year. They're going to be a lot, lot better this season.
Will it be a two-horse race? Will it be the most competitive
#LOI
in recent memory?
Tune-in to
@offtheball
from 5pm, where I'll be joining the lads to preview this year's
@LeagueofIreland
