I dont know the details, but if a local bank denies funding to a former CEO of one of the most recognizable brands in the country, it gives a picture of what smaller ventures founded by Jane/John Doe are going through.
Btw, last year only 4% bank loans went to SMEs
Former CEO of OK Zimbabwe, Willard Zireva who owns Talana—a thriving blueberry farm exporting to Europe & Asia, highlights the struggles of accessing local funding that forced him to use personal savings to launch his farming venture

Two weeks ago I sent an email on behalf of a local startup. This morning a Co-Founder at the startup texted me saying they've been invited to London this June courtesy of that email. This is a positive step towards getting them funded. 🚀
Most side hustles are not economically viable to become the main hustle despite the pictures you may see online.. Side hustles are often window dressed to appear more successful than they actually are, often to prove how 'hardworking' people are. The proof is in the bottom line.
Imagine if Divine Ndhlukula, Nigel Chanakira, Philip Mataranyika, Nicholas Vingirayi, Shingi Mutasa, Bheki Mpofu etc published autobiographies 🕯️ How rich would Zimbabwe's entrepreneurial ecosystem be if every new generation of entrepreneurs didnt have to start from scratch?
Innbucks-fintech is the bank we didn't see coming. It will be much more disruptive to the banking sector.... with RELATIVELY affordable micro loans of up to $10K, backed by a diversified group that provides it MVA, critical mass, channels & credibility, what more can they ask for
The Chinese are disciplined, dedicated &efficient in pursuit of their economic interests, at work they don't play. Huayou built a huge Lithium mine here in 1year. Dinson are taking a year to build a steel plant bigger than Zisco. Imagine a country that copies this efficiency. 1/4

I think two of the most important Zimbabweans in mining today are Victor Gapare of Bilboes & Paul Chimbodza the geologist behind Prospect Lithium & Invictus Energy (Geo Associates). What makes them even more important is the example of their determination, leadership & humility.
Am i wrong to conclude that most citizens apart from voting, they don’t want to be involved in politics or geopolitics neither do they enjoy political bickering? They just want to eat & live well, mind their own, own somethng, get jobs, enjoy rights, peace, stability &good health

I think for less than US$12 million Zim can unlock rural industrialisation by setting up at least 1 Factory Shell/ Industrial Building with micro units in each of the 60 RDCs. Private capital will do the rest. Beyond decongesting cities, this would remedy post harvest loses

my 2cents on ZIMSAT-1. it's not about the size of the satellite or what it will achieve with mapping stuff here on earth. I think it's more about seeing our kids dream a new dream. kids can now dream about becoming more. the best way to teach is to show.
Dishwashing Liquid & Toilet cleaners are not a good sight for an innovation hub in 2022. Unis are missing an opportunity to do real work, rather choosing to window dress in such poor fashion. Do they lack of skills, capacity or intent?

Dear Big corporations in Zim. Startups are not micro versions of large corporations. Historical financials aren't the best tools for assessing if a startup is worth your buck. How are you vetting without asking about Moat, CAC, Traction, Market Potential, Team, Product, Tech?

Love to see new factories pop up in Harare, but truth is Harare no longer has capacity, its infrastructure can't take up more. We should be thinking of how to decongest Harare. Harare as a metropolitan zone should be weaning factories off to other cities or SEZs don't you think?
It takes on average 3-4years for a US startup to turn profit. Africab startups struggle to access patient capital. They are expected to be profitable in year one, else the handful of funders wont give them attention. To raise outside these parameters you need Narrative & Networks

Innbucks started off as a rewards & loyalty scheme. This demonstrates how brilliant ideas have to change to accommodate new circumstances. The biggest error we make is getting overly sentimental/ attached to our "great ideas," change is part of growth.

This economic miracle has not been documented enough. Ivory Coast will become a $100Billion economy by 2027. We've read about the East Asian Miracle etc, but there isn't enough literature on this beautiful story, from civil war to one of the fastest growing economies in the world
China now reportedly has over 600 GW of Solar PV installed, of this, over 200 GW was built last year.
For context, that's +200 000 MW in solar electric power generation capacity, or almost the equivalence of Africa's total installed power capacity, built in one year.

These four companies started in garages. They are collectively worth US$5 trillion today. The lesson here has nothing to do with starting from a garage but the focus and resilience you require to build a business that lasts. It takes patience relentless courage.
