BREAKING: German Chancellor Angela Merkel has asked Turkish President Erdogan in a phone call to bring an immediate halt to military operations in northern Syria, according to a German government spokeswoman.
A group of Germans are sending President Trump a 2.7-ton original segment of the Berlin Wall to mark 30 years since it fell.
The inscription reads in part, "No wall lasts forever. For decades the US played a major role in bringing this wall down."
Today’s anti-racism demonstration in Berlin is absolutely PACKED.
It’s one of 20 protests happening simultaneously across Germany.

Some personal news:
I’m thrilled to be joining
@BBCNews
in Washington DC as a Senior Journalist! It’s an honor to help build the BBC's coverage and presence in the US at a time when trusted, accurate and impartial journalism is more important than ever.
Talk about a massive vibe shift:
Trump "generally sounded like someone you wouldn't want to sit near at a restaurant - let alone be President."
Could you imagine a press release like this from Biden?
"You wouldn't invite the tobacco industry to a lung cancer conference."

Berlin is a city held together with duct tape and “out of order” signs.
From ATMs and credit card machines to the long-delayed new airport, it often seems like nothing here works.
Just a few examples I’ve gathered in the last few weeks:
This mural on Bernauer Strasse is one of the most powerful depictions of the division of East and West Berlin.
On this day, exactly 30 years ago, the Berlin Wall fell.
I've literally never heard an American network TV weather reporter utter the words "climate emergency" during a broadcast.
Kudos to
@WeatherProf
for driving home the connection between this historic drought and human-driven climate change.
What can the US learn from Germany when it comes to gun laws?
Germany has one of the world's HIGHEST rates of gun ownership but one of the LOWEST rates of gun violence.
I produced this report in 2017 and sadly it's just as relevant today.

In recent weeks anti-vax protesters have harassed a BBC reporter, stormed the (old) BBC studios and are now occupying the ITN building.
The safety of journalists in the UK needs to be taken seriously.
“Stalkerware” apps can track your location, listen to your phone calls and even turn on your camera – all without your knowledge. And they're increasingly used by abusive partners to stalk their victims.

As Covid-19 reminds us, our health and the health of the planet cannot be separated. It’s time we got to work on fixing both.
Update: the wall has arrived in Washington but - probably unsurprisingly - the White House didn’t accept the gift.
@TheWallvsWalls
is looking for a willing recipient.
Cuba was one of the last countries in the world to allow its citizens online. The rollout of 3G mobile internet six months ago was supposed to change that.
Instead, Cubans say it's censored, slow and way too EXPENSIVE.

Sadly, this week NBC Sky Global News was the latest victim of coronavirus job cuts.
Our network was a chance to remake TV news, including my role covering climate change.
But I’m grateful to have met so many talented colleagues and I’m looking forward to the next opportunity.
While this feedback loop is something scientists worry about, there is reason for hope. It’s just one of many models of how the future might play out. (In other words, climate action is still EXTREMELY important.)
