Wild ride, solo severe coverage including wall to wall continuous coverage for Tornado Warnings near Wichita. Getting a lot of hatred tonight, being told how horrible I am, gotta love this job. I was continuous when the threat was warranted, & there were no confirmed tornadoes.

Before I disconnect for the rest of the day...If anybody has known me any length of time, they know I have always battled depression. It comes & goes. I really push myself to the limit when chasing, it's exhausting. But even in pure exhaustion, lightning always leaves me in awe.

Sounds like there was a landspout tornado South of Garden City. Zach Worf took some great video of a funnel cloud/landspout. The environment is favorable for supercells, landspouts, & tornadoes. This is a good example of one. @KAKEnews #kakewx #kswx

Such a unique tornado, formed off a high based low precipitation supercell. This tornado formed without a wall cloud. Lastly the tornado exhibited deviant storm motion meaning the tornado moved a different direction compared to the parent supercell. Video by Gage Harth. @KAKEnews

This is incredible y’all, 10000000x better than last year. I can see Aurora with my naked eye. I witnessed a bright red SAR arc & now large pillars to my NE. It actually seems lighter out due to the Aurora. Long exposure is still the way to go, not bright enough to shoot video.

If I seem a bit off today, there is a good reason for it. Today was my Grandpa's birthday but also his funeral service. I wasn't able to travel due to the Pandemic, & that hurts. Even though technology allowed me to watch the service it wasn't the same. I miss you Grandpa!

One of the craziest radar loops I’ve seen up in Northern California. The latest storm bombed out & developed 2 eye like features. These features are rotating around each other, we call this the fujiwara effect. Save some loops & screenshots because this is truly something else!

Seeing this scene everywhere, all over Dodge City. This is underpass road & it’s buried in deep snow. At least 10+ cars abandoned here. US400 near the Cargill plant is another parking lot of abandoned snow covered cars. This is my first time seeing stuff like this in person!

Pretty crazy that we went from a tropical storm to Cat 4 in just over 48 hours! Hurricane Idalia went through rapid intensification due to favorable conditions & incredibly warm water temperatures. Idalia will landfall as a Category 4 storm near the Big Bend of Florida. #Idalia

Wichita was upgraded to a Winter Storm Warning, we could see 4-8" of snow. Despite taking an ideal track for heavy snow production, something feels off. Still a lot of uncertainty regarding warm ground temps & possible mixed precip that make this a tricky forecast for the ICT.

Just a heads up, I found out about 2 weeks ago that I have kidney stones. They are fairly small, 1-2mm in size but are in both kidneys. Today I started to try to pass them, it’s incredibly painful. Despite the welcome change in the weather, I may not be posting much. @KAKEnews

Here's my timelapse from May 4th, 2023, this was a slow-moving supercell in Lane & Ness County. I pretty much watched its whole lifespan. Of course, it didn't try to really go through tornadogenesis until after dark. It's a decent timelapse minus the power poles haha @KAKEnews

Today is my birthday! It’s the big 31! Doubt many of you knew that I was that old haha…Also apparently today is the anniversary of the biggest hailstone in Kansas history in which a 7.75” hailstone fell in SW Wichita back in 2010! That is wild! @KAKEnews #birthday #thirties

Can't say I'm surprised this event is going MODERATE. There is potential for strong tornadoes across much of Northern Texas, Oklahoma & SE KS. Lots of failure modes with this event, but if the mix comes together...it could be a bad day. Be Weather Aware & Stay Safe Friends!

I don't think I've *ever* heard a meteorologist say a little prayer or "oh man" on air. #mswx Amory, Mississippi is southwest of Tupelo, and about 15 miles west of the Mississippi/Alabama state line.

Can’t recall the last time I’ve made it back from a chase before the sun sets. Also the torrential rains have washed the weather vehicle nicely. Like most MCS chases, I didn’t see all that much but I did witness & capture some solid lightning strikes, can’t wait to share them!

Hearing about some pretty bad wind damage in Great Bend. They got rocked with tennis ball sized hail driven by nearly 80mph winds. There is speculation if it's straight line wind/RFD or a tornado. Jeremy Long sent us this photo showing that the church lost its roof. @NWSWichita
