Late to the party on this one. Comments are a good reminder of talk 20%, listen 80%. Lots of prescribing without diagnosing. Marks the only one who spoke to the client and looks like he had tons of context as to why he recos what he did. Seems sound to me.

Client is 19 with $50k to invest. A gift from her grandmother. We're going to put it all in a 60/40 portfolio. She has the time horizon and risk capacity to go higher, but she's never invested before and doesn't know how she'll react to volatility. Baby steps are ok.

I am recommending a $3000 contribution to an RRSP for a client on EI. They will save $500 in income tax. Low right? They will also see their Canada Child Benefit increase by $800 👀 That's 43% back today. They won't be paying 43% in retirement. THAT'S TAX PLANNING💪

If I were the sole shareholder of a company, I'd take a smaller dividend in bad times to reinvest. Companies keep paying dividends while making year over year losses puzzle me, why?

Pet peeve of the day: market commentary on how the markets are in 'unprecedented times'. The markets are strange, there's tons of precedent for that. It's a way to presuppose that in the past they've been right in their takes, but just this time it could go either way. Cool

There are problems with advisors creating artificial complexity as a selling point, sure. There are also big problems with advisors compensated by throughput ignoring some fundamental pieces of risk management. Ensure your advisor does the work.

Today I learned that some roboadvisors take a YTD return (ex. March 31st YTD) and multiply it by 4 and call it an "Annualized Return" on their client statements. WHAT?! For the record - I think low fee accessible options are wonderful for people. I don't love obscuring truth.
