Policy Brief on integration in Gaelic Games.
Delighted to publish my first study as part of my PhD in
@TUS_ie
This policy brief consists of five recommendations underpinned by integration and merger research, case study of Golf Ireland and the context of Gaelic Games.
Conor Meyler is giving an absolute exhibition out there. His athleticism, ball carrying, work rate on and off the ball is absolutely incredible to watch
This is why he did it..
To raise funds for mum and her colleagues working in Intensive Care in the SWAH in Enniskillen.
Thank you to anyone who donated.
For anyone who would still like to donate, the go fund me link is attached below.
Last 3 mile
He's in absoutle bits, this shed is like a sauna.
Lack of preparation is hurting him bigtime.
Mentally, he's a freak.
Thinking of all the people who donated and why he is doing this.
Bring it home dad
3 Ulster Club championship games in 7 days.
Yet, it states championship games should be at least 5 days apart (for player welfare and rightly so)
Unfortunately this isn’t a first.
@LadiesFootball
what’s going on?
I find it baffling how some schools can opt not to partake in PE at the moment.
After copious research some schools still disregard the physical and mental benefits their pupils get from PE lessons within school.
PE benefits children academically, socially and emotionally.
Very concerned to hear some schools are not considering teaching PE on return. I believe it can be done safely- the many sports clubs running are testament to this!
@BelievePHQ
show why PE should be essential -not forgetting the fun! And children definitely need some fun now
A trip of a lifetime 🇰🇪
I’m truly grateful to have been part of such an amazing trip with a special group raising €500,000 and the goal of planting 1 million trees 🍃
Among the poverty we found people who were happy. Smiling, singing and dancing.
Kenya, Asante Sana 🇰🇪
The words say it all…Gaelic Games has to look internally and step up to the role and influence it has on Irish sport and society. Looking forward to debate and support for
@gaelicplayers
motion on Saturday.
8 mile in,
The shed is getting warmer, the breathing is getting heavier, the legs are getting heavier.
Remembering 'why' he is doing it.
Thanks to all who have donated so far.

I've alot to thank this man for.
He been a huge support this past 10 months personally both in and out of the physio clinic in helping me move more efficiently.
Tyrone are lucky to have him, one of the best there is.
@MartyLoughran83
Mattie has been one of the greats of
@TyroneGAALive
and
@TrillickGAC
Having suffered a very serious injury many wondered if we’d ever see him play for the county again but Mattie is made of tough stuff and last night he came on to secure the win and div 1 status. What a legend.
This is a farce
What’s meant to be an opportunity to reward players for their effort and commitment now puts them in a position where they are being questioned on that very thing.
Respect to
@AshlingThompson
and the
@OfficialCorkGAA
camogs for taking a stance.
Not to mention - provisional fixtures:
Munster Camogie Championship 21st May.
In addition,
@MunsterCamogie
Final 28th of May - double header with Tipp v Waterford
@MunsterGAA
Hurling Championship in Semple Stadium.
Also potentially ruling out Waterford Camogie all stars 2022
Having done some research recently into Physical Activity and Physical Education levels in school the time being spent is worrying.
I really hope that
@MichealMartinTD
can keep his word and we see time allocated to PE become a priority in the school timetable.
France 108 hours per year PE
Austria 102 hour
Portugal 90 hours
.
.
.
.
Ireland 37 hours 😳
Taoiseach Micheál Martin had his say on Ireland's poor PE performance.

Taking a different look into leadership and being yourself.
Have a read and let me know your thoughts.
Don't try be Like Mike, be yourself.
In the aftermath of Ashling Murphy's tragic death we need to listen to the women who are part of our lives and reflect on what they share. Men need to take a good look at their attitudes, biases, and behaviours. We also need to look inwardly as an Association.

Nick Griggs picks up where he left off last year - becomes the first Irish U20 to break 8mins for 3000m, clocking an Irish U20 record of 7:57.38 in Abbotstown after a viciously fast first kilometre.
He only turned 17 before Christmas.

That horrific story from Tullamore makes me recall this survey by Runner's World last year:
60% of female runners have been harassed on a run.
6% have feared for their life on a run.
@DonachODonnell
Before we can have equality we need equity. Women have been underrepresented in sport for years.
Run an open workshop and it’ll be male dominated and the cycle continues. Run a female only one and it’ll help close the gender gap.
My recent visit to
@StMarys_Belfast
for a guest lecture with the MSc in Physical Education & Sport for Young People class.
I presented some of my PhD research on the Integration of Gaelic Games while also looking at the wider impact gender has in sport and leaderships.
Fair play to every woman involved in this, calling out poor standards.
Hopefully sparks some well needed change!

At at the age of 18, Domhnall Nugent had the world at his feet. A few years later, the inter-county hurler was addicted to drugs and alcohol . He's now speaking out to encourage others to talk about their mental health.
@tv_KevinSharkey
's report contains some upsetting detail.
Completed my undergrad dissertation on the topic of Early Specialisation in Sport.
Interesting topic.
Narrowing a child's identity so young can only be detrimental.
Interesting read, Some key in the article⬇️
-Early specialisation carries greater risks to athletes with links to burnout, injury & dropout
-Choice to specialise is seldom decided solely by the child
-Specialisation early can limit identity development
This match is not taking place .
We were told of the change to a 3G surface AFTER the bus had left.
Players all with stud boots for grass pitch.
Outrageous that the
@UlsterLadies
secretary told me the players “would be ok to play with studs”.
Ref said no metal studs= no match
Nick Griggs is not sure if his late race stumble was due to the ground or fatigue but he says “no excuses” and pays credit to European U20 winner Will Barnicoat.
@EuroAthletics
A fourth gold medal for Ireland 🇮🇪 in just over 24 hours in Tallinn!
Only 16, Nicholas Griggs uncorks a last kilometre of 2:31 to run away from the field the 3000m! 💨
📈 That title also takes Ireland to the top of the medal table! 🥇🥈🥉

I hope with more awareness we can change some of the current attitudes and beliefs and work towards one association for all in Gaelic Games!
We can't underestimate challenge of integration of GAA, Camogie & Ladies football. Great research being carried out by
@CMeyler
along with
@aoifemlane
&
@kliston14
on this subject. A long road ahead but what a difference one governing body can have for all the GAA community
You don’t have to be a woman to support women’s sport.
If Siya Kolisi can do it.. why can’t more high profile men in sport do the same? This is quality.

Contradicts himself badly here and comes across as a real misogynist
Changing fixtures and facilities won’t even the playing field for women in sport (although it will help), firstly, it’s changing attitudes, behaviours and beliefs that have existed for generations

Authentic leadership.
The more I read on this area the more this poem resonates (A great paper by the way).
It requires constant self reflection and alot of self awareness to be authentic.

working with the summer school pupils.
We focused on physical and mental health across 2 workshops.
A special thanks to all the lads for their engagement across the two days.
The benefit of sport hugely outweighs the negative.
If specific protocols are in place with some common sense, then ALL sports for both adults and children should be back in some capacity.

Feels like the GAA, LGFA & CA have been tip toeing around this issue for years with slow and minuscule steps.
If grassroots are asked to integrate through a ‘One Club Model’ then why don’t the Associations follow?
97% of

🤝 As they move towards integration, we are calling on the GAA, LGFA & Camogie Association to agree on an official Squad Charter for female intercounty players from the 2024 season.

GAA assumptions on twitter is becoming an issue.

If you’re the type of person who has to berate another individual in order to feel better about yourself, I feel sorry for you. Think before you write stuff online & look internally first. We are all fallible. It’s the man in the arena!
So many good snippets coming out of Team Europe in the Ryder Cup. Donald giving the tour, Rose in the press conference talking about culture, Mc Ilroy talking about the night at the fire pit, seeing Lowry backing up Ilroy

Can really see the impact of
@OwenEastwood
This is a disgrace that
@LaoisLGFA
decided not to postpone the Ladies Football minor final and forced
@PortlaoiseGAA
Ladies to withdraw from the Leinster Senior competition. It’s a LGFA fixture matter and surely common sense tells them not to clash the 2 games on the one day?Joke
Some food for thought…
Do we know the difference between integration, amalgamation and a merger? If so, which one do we really want?
Is it equality or equity we need?
Those who voted against, what’s their reasoning?
Logistically, what are the issues we will encounter?

Movement adequacy: the ability to move in such a way as to accomplish a task with minimal effort. This is essentially the summation of all the above elements.
A multi-sport approach
-Try new sports
- Join new teams
-Experience losing
-Learn from losing
-Try different strategies
-Find what works
-Learn new techniques
-Fall, laugh, cry
Can you take sport seriously and still have fun? Yes
Can it be competitive and fun? Yes
Key points⬇️👌
Education should be most important thing
Being in the home environment & with friends
Agents pushing kids into a dream that hardly any will make
Many kids tired of playing by 14/15
Training 8 times a wk with pressure full on
They need to be kids & stay kids

All players on the squad are above a certain level of technical ability (or they wouldn’t be on the team)
Who makes the team?
The players who when no one’s watching -
eat right
practice
rest
are disciplined
sound judgment
Always put the team first
