It was incredibly meaningful to return to Cambodia with my mother! When I was just a young girl, my father, mother, brother and I fled the country to escape the genocide of minorities there, including ethnic Chinese like my family. When I was 7 years old, we found our way to NYC.

The City Council today unanimously passed two of my bills to improve language access for callers to 311. The first would require protocols to identify the language of the caller, the second would require the release of wait times for callers who require interpretation services.

111 years ago, 146 workers died in a fire at the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory, most of them immigrant teenage girls who worked in horrific conditions. Their deaths started a movement for workers’ rights that continues today, especially in our immigrant communities. #TriangleFire

While it's unacceptable it took six months to make the repairs, I'm happy gas was finally restored at Bland Houses in time for residents to have a home-cooked meal for Thanksgiving. Thanks to my fellow elected officials for joining me last month to push NYCHA to finish the work.

Today is National Korean War Veterans Armistice Day, which honors the 5.7 million veterans of the Korean War, including this one saluting the Korean War Memorial in Kissena Park, where I hosted a Memorial Day Observance. The agreement ending the war was signed on July 27, 1953.

Guiying Ma was brutally attacked on November 16th while sweeping the sidewalk outside her home. She passed away from her injuries last week, leaving behind her beloved family. Today, our community gathered in front of @NYCHealthSystem Elmhurst Hospital for a vigil.
