Hi

! My name is Cheyennae Barbee (yes like the doll) and I’m applying IM for

!
I’m here to prove that DOs and Black physicians belong in academic spaces.
Hobbies: professional pipette user, concerts, avid reader, and history buff!
University of Kentucky College of Medicine student, Lee Kiefer, wins gold in fencing! She is a four-time Olympian who’s also balancing her Olympic dreams with med school. She put her studies on hold to compete in
#Paris2024
and will soon graduate med school.
I scheduled 3 months of away electives. And so far I have spent $7,000 in rent. Just another reason why students from low income backgrounds (like me) are less likely to become doctors.
First day of hematology consults and I’m bamboozled about all the stuff they didn’t teach in medical school. Also heme/onc doctors might be the smartest people in the world.
Hello
#MedTwitter
! How should I navigate preceptor feedback saying I’m“too quiet”? Apparently in the extrovert world being quiet means you’re dumb. How do I impress preceptors as a more quiet, reserved student?
@CMBarbee_
Slightly an unpopular opinion but you don’t have to do away electives that’s a personal choice and some cover housing. You don’t need to do aways to become a doctor.
Ahhh yes COMLEX strikes again. Too many ethics and OMM questions, not enough medical questions, ton of repition, ridiculously vague, short question stems. Now to wait 6 weeks for scores smh
@zhwand_medical
THIS! My surgery rotation was so hostile that I didn’t have the brain space to actually learn. I was just trying to survive those 4 weeks.
Had to increase the number of PQ’s I do a day to 120-160, but I’m seeing the results. Practice exam score went up 15 points in a week! Thank God I take boards in the upcoming weeks cause I’m over it. 😅
@PoleDoctress
I’ve been following you for a minute cause I haven’t ran into many black heme/onc doctors. But you’re so cool and I want to be like you one day 🙌🏾
@kwilliams_2024
Hi, how do you suggest doing this if you come from a low income background and your school barely gives you 20k a semester to live on? I always run out of money by the end of the semester. And school won’t “let” us take out more.
Y’all ever win $20,000 in scholarships just from pure determination and faith, cause I did this year? So blessed that fourth year won’t cause me any financial stress!
Day 1/60 at
@DukeHospital
! Remembered the layout of the hospital, my badge works, and started my first ELISA. I’m obsessed with this hospital and all the kind people here and feel so blessed that I was able to come back for even longer!
I would also like to call out
@jaimeg1243
for trying to be racist and saying I look like Aunt Jemima. But we all know she made good syrup and pancakes 😘
@starbakhs
Me taking a humanity class isn’t going to make racism or sexism disappear in the healthcare system. That would take a total overhaul of the system. As a black woman in a STEM field, I’m contributing to the dismantling of the system just by being present. 😒
I will not be doing my

introduction or changing my status to OMS-IV until boards are over. Because then I’ll finally be free to stress over ERAS 😅
Sitting here in the lab and realizing how draining board studying has been for the past 6 weeks. My school made it more stressful than it should’ve been, and I was running on pure stress, cause I sure wasn’t sleeping. It’s hitting me how exhausted I am.
The amount of times I’ve gotten bad grades or evaluations for being introverted angers me. It affects my career and makes it seem like I just stand in the corner and watch. When really I’m observing and trying to catch things you missed during all your talking!
@GabrielleIvie_
I’m personally confused, because I’m 30 and have more than 10 life experiences. Not sure how residencies are going to know that if we’re limited to ten 🤷🏾♀️
@CinnaWinnaa
@_RichieDinero
I do! And my hair is down my back. Protective and low maintenance styles aka buns and claw clips . Never use heat on my hair. Castor oil and 2-3 relaxers a year 👍🏾
Bro…hematology is so cool. Every time I see patients I am simply flabbergasted by the depth and scope of pathologies. Oh and the diversity of patients!
BREAKING — The International Olympic Committee has made it official that USA’s Jordan Chiles must return the Bronze medal from Floor Exercise and it will be awarded to Ana Barbosu of Romania. This follows a ruling from the Court of Arbitration for Sport and a recertification of
@babyy_gg
Yep! I spent $1400 on board exams last semester since I’m in DO school. And my school had the nerve to increase our tuition and barely our living loans.
@mackymillz12
Yea I actually have a scholarship that covers my housing + a free trip to a conference. I’m just making people aware of the financial burdens of med school. 🙄
@ntradsteminist
I live 3 minutes away from my hospital, and let me tell you that being able to drive home in minutes after a 12 hour shift is priceless! Keep in mind you have to study when you get home too, so an hour driving is time away from studying.
Here in Kansas City the power outages have only affected the poorer areas. Cause I live in the “rich white” suburbs and our power hasn’t gone off once.
For my non Texas mutuals. Basically we’re currently experiencing below freezing weather, with “controlled” power outages... but really it’s low income zip codes without power in freezing temperatures
@dgcoopz
@kirk_med
My school also has a food pantry. We pay $100,000 a year just to run out of money by the end of the semester. Currently hoping I can survive until I get more loans in January 👎🏾
