An overview on which horses may travel to Australia later this year. Since this was published in last weekend's @Winning_Post , media reports indicate Silver Sonic and Jack Darcy won't be coming to Melbourne. Melbourne Cup entries will be released on Tuesday.

Would be fitting if Roy Rocket could win at Brighton on Friday during their August festival. All eight of his wins have been at the track and witnessed firsthand how much the locals adore him. Heartening to see a horse that’s not outrageously gifted still earn equine hero status!

Without A Fight won the Melbourne Cup in 3:18.37. Leader Serpentine ran his first mile in 1:39.18, meaning the overall last mile for the race was one-hundredth of a second slower (1:39.19). The first six placegetters were 14th-18th and 21st at halfway.

Flemington held five races over 1400 metres on Saturday, four at stakes level. Jimmysstar led The Elms, his first 800m (48.03s) was the slowest from the five races. Poland led the BM84 approximately seven lengths faster. The Elms last 600m was also the quickest of all races.

There have been 15 occasions of horses losing at under $1.50 in Australian Group 1s since 2008. Fangirl ($1.30 favourite) joined the list after finishing runner-up in Saturday's Verry Elleegant Stakes (1600m) at Randwick.

Pride of Jenni clocked the quickest first 1400m of any Australian Cup since 2000 (1:23.91). The ‘end speed’ (see formula) of Saturday’s Australian Cup was 99.65%, indicating Declan Bates once again evenly distributed Pride of Jenni’s pace throughout the race. Gallant in defeat!

Niccolite became the eighth winner (from 397 races) to come from last at the 400-metre mark in a field of 9+ starters over 1200m at Mornington since 2011. The Nicconi filly is the only horse to achieve the feat in a field greater than 11 during the period.

Pride of Jenni led throughout in the Empire Rose and Champions Mile, the tempo of both races very different. Pride of Jenni ran the first 800m of the Champions Mile 1.28s slower than the Empire Rose, allowing her to register the last 800m 1.39s quicker than seven days earlier.

The handicap rating of Amelia’s Jewel is unchanged following her Stocks Stakes win, she will run in the Toorak Handicap rated 111. Nine mares rated 110+ have contested the Toorak since 2007, finishing top-four on six occasions.

Red Cadeaux’s half-brother Amazing Red just won impressively by 3-1/2 lengths over 2800m at Newmarket. Could he be Melbourne bound? The winner of this same race year was Jaameh, now trained by Hayes/Dabernig and won his only Australian start at Caulfield in April.

Queen Elizabeth Stakes, a race of extremes! Pride of Jenni ran 1:01.13 first 1000m, approximately 26 lengths ahead of Mr Brightside. Field didn't reduce margin until 800m, too far detached. Via Sistina's final 600m over 4.2s faster than Pride of Jenni, yet lost by 6.5 lengths.

All-Star Mile sectionals indicate Pride of Jenni ran four sub-11.25s splits from 1400-600m, yet ran her last 800m quicker than the first 800m. Mr Brightside and Cascadian ran one sub-11.25s split each. Both placegetters ran their final 800m +2.5s quicker than their first 800m.

Leading Cups contender Middle Earth (🎥) has been gelded. @cmaherracing stable reports he has come through the procedure without complications and remains in great order. Middle Earth is now in the care of @H_Eustace and races first up for Maher in the Caulfield Cup (Oct 19).

Crystal Bound ( @cmaherracing ) won her 2YO Hcp (1000m) at @TheValley on debut by 6L in 57.46s, the quickest time by a juvenile around the StrathAyr course. Previous best was Innovation Girl (x7 stakes winner, dam of Chloe in Paris & Ideas Man) who won in 57.5s in December 2001.

One for Later (handicap rating of 57) won today’s F&M BM84 Hcp (2000m) at Flemington at $151. Under Racing Victoria’s minimum rating requirement policy, which is effective from February 3, she wouldn’t have gained entry into the field (minimum rating of 60 needed).

My Boy Birmingham (63.5kg) carried the heaviest weight of any Saturday winner in Melbourne on the flat since August 2007. First Immortal (23/9/23) & Ashlor (30/6/18) carried 63kg to victory. Twin Perfection, Durston, Runaway, Viridine, Right You Are & Game Keeper carried 62kg.

Five horses (Title Fighter, Tiz Enuf, Magnaspin, Lievore & Shalaman) led at the 800-metre mark and won at Moonee Valley on Saturday. 13 of the past 71 Valley meetings (since June 2020) have featured four or five winners who led with 800 metres remaining (18.3%).

Six of ten winners at Caulfield on Saturday were either first or second at the 800-metre mark. Since December 2008, 'on-pacers' have won 23 of 53 Caulfield races on Good tracks when the rail is out four metres the entire circuit.
