Copies just in of

’s The Wordhord, out next month from
@ProfileBooks

Peak Matt Hancock anecdote from Helen MacNamara in spring 2020. She asked how he was coping:
"He reassured me that he was ‘loving responsibility’ and to demonstrate this took up a batsman's stance outside the Cabinet Room, and said, ‘they bowl them at me, I knock them away’”.
We have a new website at
@CCLAgents
& are open for submissions once again. Thrilled that
@natgalustian
has joined us, bringing her wonderful list of authors.
I saw no large groups when running with my dog in Brockwell Park yesterday. Everyone observing social distancing. Saw one person sitting on grass, reading a book. It’s a large park. 3000 people in a day is not excessive. This is the wrong decision.
Despite clear advice, over 3000 people spent today in Brockwell Park, many of them sunbathing or in large groups. This is unacceptable. Unfortunately, the actions of a minority now means that, following police advice, Brockwell Park will be closed tomorrow.

For tomorrow’s
@thesundaytimes
, I interviewed Martin Bashir. This is the first time he has spoken since the sunday times broke the story that he had shown Earl Spencer fake bank statements last October.
Impressed with my one-year-old son who took my phone this afternoon. When eventually I got it back, the rightmove app was open on four-bedroom houses for sale nearby.
Madly, Deeply: The Diaries of Alan Rickman published tomorrow by

Four armed Royal Navy gunboats have been put on standby to guard British waters from EU trawlers – if there’s no deal on fishing rights by the end of the year.
The paperback of my book, Herding Cats: The Art of Amateur Cricket Captaincy, is out today, published by

Very very happy about this news. The writing life is rarely an easy one so for this to happen to

for her 11th book is especially wonderful.

We found an injured ginger cat in our garden today & took it to the Medivet in White Hart Lane (Barnes, SW14). No microchip or collar but he has clearly been cared for. Please get in touch if you recognise him. (He's friendlier than this photo suggests.)
Today's verb crime is to inbox. As in, 'I will inbox

Delighted that
@hanavideen
has a beautiful new book out later this year. The Deorhord: An Old English Bestiary will be published by

this autumn.
Very sad to hear about Sonny Mehta. He published best & biggest books, was one of only 3 editors in chief in
@AAKnopf
’s history, and great champion of writers. He was also an incredibly kind man who took interest in others, as this lovely tribute shows.

I like this line too. 'a great deal of what makes Tom Holland Tom Holland comes from how he moves, rather than the lines he delivers.'
The week of my wedding, I was stopped by a very nice woman who asked me where I got my suit. She thought her grandfather would love it. I think I'll wear something else on Saturday.
Leaked Government documents reveal special procurement channels for ‘VIPs’ and Cabinet contacts - and opportunities for 35-45% profit margins for insiders.

Would anyone like to write a children’s book featuring all characters from all John Lewis Xmas ads? I’m sure
@jlandpartners

would be relaxed about copyright.
Just a month till publication of

's The Wordhord, a beautiful book about Old English, packed with the words that haven't changed at all over 1000 years (like word) & those (like gafol-fisc & neorxnawang) that have.

Watch on after the game & try to learn something from the interview with Kane Williamson and his class, grace & innate decency. That is leadership, not populist posturing about Europe.

Toby, I preferred it when you questioned your own aptitude for journalism in How to Lose Friends & Alienate People rather than making unfounded aspersions about an outstanding investigation, simply for clicks from the extremities of the internet.
Tomorrow is publication day for

This is a fabulous round-up of the best children's books by

TV idea: an Apprentice-style show in which viewers vote for Boris Johnson's next ethics tsar. Candidates could include Prince Andrew, Darius Guppy, the Major from Who Wants to be a Millionaire and Cat Bin Woman.
The Times’ Meat Loaf obituary is a must-read. He fell out again & again with song writer Jim Steinberg. Bat Out of Hell, probably most commercially successful album of all time, was first conceived as Peter Pan tribute. Barrie estate refused permission.
We're honoured to be publishing 'Why We Kneel, How We Rise' by Michael Holding, a vital book on racism and re-education, featuring leading Black sporting heroes from around the world. June 2021 can't come soon enough!
This quote sums up the current madness pretty well. 'Conservative MP James Gray, who plans to vote for the deal after rejecting it twice, said he was "absolutely furious".'
David Sedaris: ‘I get a lot of books to blurb. I just got one, this essay collection by Rebecca Front, Impossible Things Before Breakfast. I opened it up and was completely captivated by it.’
