Regardless of anything else she did, we should never forget that she voted to hand the 2000 election to George W. Bush just so that she could retire and be replaced by a conservative.
I think Kamala Harris should seriously consider putting a significant investment into Alaska. It is quite a cheap state to campaign in, and has been promising lately for Dems (e.g., post-Dobbs, Peltola). Preserving the Top 4 RCV is another potentially important priority.
The White House believes Pelosi was โruthlessโ in pushing Biden out
But the president understands:
โShe did what she had to doโ in order to give Democrats the best chance to win, Biden said, adding that Pelosi โcares about the party,โ not about feelings
President Biden: I have decided the best way forward is to pass the torch to a new generation. There is a time and place for long years of experience in public life. But there is also a time and place for new voices, fresh voices, and yes, younger voices. And that time and place
Sinema deserves infinitely more hate than Manchin. The former represents a Biden state where the other statewide officials are Democrats. The latter represents a Trump +39 state where the GOP controls every office under the sun.
I am strongly opposed to Romney rehabilitation because he continues to be a cowardly and disingenuous piece of shit but I am fine with McCain rehabilitation given that 1) his family (with one glaring exception) seems to be playing along and 2) his popularity in a key swing state.
If Biden does end up dropping, I am going to be somewhat relieved, but I am also going to be saddened. In spite of everything (*cough* Gaza *cough*), I do actually believe Biden has been the most effective President of my lifetime, and this is a pretty brutal way to go.
>ex CIA
>defeat a 2-term incumbent in a gerrymandered formerly red seat in 2018
>have a close call in 2020
>win a very different new district in 2022
>terrible things seem to happen to people in your way
>run statewide essentially unopposed in what should be competitive primaries
The real alternative history timeline that keeps me up at night is the timeline in which the party consolidated behind Joe Biden in 2016 rather than Hillary Clinton.
WHOA! The Supreme Court's final decision of the day is a 5โ4 ruling that AFFIRMS the Voting Rights Act's protection against racial vote dilution! Roberts and Kavanaugh join the liberals. This is a HUGE surprise and a major voting rights victory.
Itโs an unfortunate quirk of history that absolutely brutal downballot wipeouts during the Obama-era left Democrats with about a decade-long drought in top tier presidential candidates.
>Declines to run for senate, handing that seat to the Democrats
>Vetos the Republican gerrymander of the congressional map, putting both seats in play
>Fails to get his hand picked candidates through their primaries
>Retires immediately
This lawsuit is brutal. The petitioners want new maps AND they want the WI SC to cut all of the senate terms short, meaning that the entire legislature will be up in 2024.

challenging the state's legislative maps. The case argues that the maps violate the state constitution as unlawful partisan gerrymanders. Read it here:
Here's the spot, titled "For You" --
Joe Biden in navy blue Polo quarter zip to camera:
"Look, I'm not a young guy. That's no secret. But, here's the deal. I understand how to get things done for the American people"

I donโt have a strong opinion of her either for or against. But the idea that if she announced her retirement that the GOP would let her seat be filled before the election is laughable.
Regardless of whether or not he ultimately drops out, he is going to act as if he is definitely staying in until he has decided that he is 100% dropping out.
In hindsight, this 2012 Rachel Maddow monologue feels fairly profoundโshe notices many of the undercurrents in the GOP that foreshadow their later extreme rightward turn.
I genuinely believe that the entire red wave narrative was manufactured. The polling averages 21 days out were all correct within two points, which is eerie.
