"Mike Mooneyham’s work is a history lesson and masterclass in not only how the wrestling business worked in the old days but also an eye-opener on how different it all used to be." - "Final Bell" reviewer Stuart Monroe
It's not surprising that
@deshaunwatson
beat the Dallas Cowboys with a cracked rib and partially collapsed lung. As a college freshman at Clemson he beat the South Carolina Gamecocks on a torn ACL.
Watched Shelton Benjamin's match tonight on Raw. Talk about somebody who should have been a mega-star in this business. One of the best athletes I've ever seen. He's had a lucratively rewarding career, but it should have been so much more. Wiill always believe WWE failed him.
The importance of Pat Patterson to the success of WWE cannot be overstated. Pat, who passed away today at the age of 79, was a trailblazer in the wrestling business and Vince McMahon's right-hand man for many years. And, with Ray Stevens, one of wrestling's greatest tag teams.
Pro wrestling lost one of its best with the passing of Bobby Eaton at the age of 62 Wednesday night. Truly one of the greatest inside and outside the ring, Bobby loved the business with a passion, and it loved him right back.
Remembering the Macho Man ... 12 years ago today we lost Randy Savage (Poffo) at the age of 58. Loved listening to him lay out a match ... it was like he was cutting a promo in that deep, raspy voice that has been so often imitated. Oooh yeah!
Saddened to hear that Rocky Johnson has passed away at the age of 75. In addition to being The Rock's dad, Rocky was a big part of the wrestling business for many years. Thoughts and prayers with the family.
Pro wrestling great Barry Windham is in ICU after sufferering a massive heart attack Friday night in Atlanta. Son of the late Blackjack Mulligan, Windham, 62, survived a heart attack that left him hospitalized and in rehab for several months in 2011.
Can honestly say I haven't seen a crowd pop like they did tonight in Chicago for
@CMPunk
since
@RicFlairNatrBoy
returned to WCW on an edition of Nitro in 1998. And just like that, it felt like the Monday Night Wars again. Seminal moment for
@AEW
.
Nice of
@MichaelCole
and
@PatMcAfeeShow
to mention the passing of Ole Anderson tonight on Raw. No matter what your opinion of Ole might be, he was a giant in the wrestling business.
Remembering the Macho Man ...13 years ago today we lost Randy Savage (Poffo) at the age of 58. Loved listening to him lay out a match ... it was like he was cutting a promo in that deep, raspy voice that has been so often imitated. Oooh yeah!
Dean Malenko is a great hire for
@AEWrestling
. Still remember his dad, Boris "The Great" Malenko, as one of the best heels and heat magnets in the business.
Bob Caudle was the first pro wrestling voice I heard back in 1964. Bob celebrated his 93rd birthday today. The Voice of Mid-Atlantic Wrestling sounds as good today as it did those many years ago when he tells me, "See you next week and so long for now." A national treaure.
Sad day in Mayberry. Betty Lynn, better known as Barney Fife's forever girl Thelma Lou on the Andy Griffith Show, passed away peacefully Saturday night in Mount Airy, N.C. (Andy's hometown) after a brief illness. She had celebrated her 95th birthday on Aug. 29.
This one hurts. Superstar Billy Graham truly was "the man of the hour, the man with the power, too sweet to be sour." One of the most influential performers of a generation.
"The Voice of Mid-Atlantic Wrestling" Bob Caudle celebrated his 94th birthday this weekend. The first pro wrestling words I ever heard came out of this man's mouth 60 years ago. He always laughs and says, "Wow, that's a long time," sounding just like he did all those years ago.
Few men in pro wrestling were as imposing as Sid Vicious (Eudy) during the late '80s and '90s. A six-time world champion, Sid's passing at age 63 after a lengthy battle with cancer leaves yet another void in the wrestling business.
A beautiful couple ... Bob and Jackie Caudle. They are celebrating their 70th anniversary today! Bob was calling the first match I ever saw. The Voice of Mid-Atlantic Wrestling.
Thirty-two years ago today on this date: Dusty Rhodes defeated Ric Flair in a steel cage match to win the NWA world heavyweight title in Greensboro, N.C.
Thirty-five years ago today on this date: Mike Mooneyham started writing his weekly wrestling column for The Post and Courier in Charleston, South Carolina.
Brad Armstrong would have turned 63 today. He passed away Nov. 1, 2012, at the age of 51. Brad was one of the good guys in this business. There was no such thing as a “bad” Brad Armstrong match.
Twenty-six years ago today on this date: Steve Austin and Brian Pillman defeated Ricky Steamboat and Shane Douglas to win the WCW world tag-team title in Macon, Ga.
