Modern strategy games are so boring. Just like we are having "Boomer Shooter" boom that brought back fast-paced FPSes that plays like Doom and Quake, we need a "Boomer Strategy" boom and bring back games that plays like Warcraft, Starcraft, Dune, C&C, etc.

Now I have mastered the weapon sprite making process of Brutal Fate to be entirely made in Blender. The amount of detail it can reach is just insane compared to all other methods I tried before, even the flamethrower's animations is butter smooth now.

Working on a bipod deployment system. Simple, but effective, automatically detects if you are facing proper cover to deploy it, and most importantly, works on Zandronum all made in simple Decorate code with no ACS.

@GmanLives True, but the problem with them was their mechanics, directly copying CoD, all with 2 weapon limits, regenerative health, linear levels, etc. Games that didn't completely copy CoD thrived, like Black was a gritty military shooter that nobody talked shit about.

Reminder that there is NOTHING wrong with minimalist menu screens. Any menu screen that requires extensive load times, complicated transitions, and makes you take longer to start the game, is a badly designed menu screen. Pic related: Greatest menu screen ever designed.

Keep in mind this is WIP. This the Fiend, the most basic enemy type of #BrutalFate . With all animations and gibs considered, he has over 600 sprites and his data weights more than the entire original Doom game installation.

I was not even trying to fool people into thinking my Brutal Quake 2 video was made in the actual Quake 2 engine, and a lot of people got fooled by it. GZDoom can easily look like whatever you want it to, Build, idTech2, whatever. Abandon Unity, come to the GPL side of the force

Because I had already 5 people dming me asking this, yes you can run Legacy of Rust with Brutal Doom, and it works. Interestingly, these dehacked monsters do not replace existing ones so they don't conflict with decorate stuff.

Among all the new stuff I am adding to BDv22, I am adding a Hordes Mode that was planned for BDv21. Scenarios which you have to survive 10 waves of enemies and then a boss, and have a limited number of supplies and marine companions to do so.

Finally managed to make the flames look like how I wanted. Now using pre-rendered smoke to save CPU usage. The fire and smoke have multiple stages of animations so they can fade out slowly, and the loud sounds of burning fuel are slowly replaced by subtle sounds of burning flesh

I was all day working on stuff with Blender, decided to get up and take a shower, on the way to the bathroom I remembered, "whops, forgot to save", went back, saved everything, then got to shower. 20 mins later I come back and see my PC rebooted. DEVS: ALWAYS SAVE YOUR STUFF.

So this is how it worked, first I tried to make a replica of Punchatz's gun, then I changed its proportions to look more like a rifle, and added a M16-like stock to it to make it look more like the zombieman's rifle.

Working mirrors are already cool, how about breakable mirrors that still works after being shattered? The decals are placeholders and I'm still going to improve the effects and add sounds, for now I'm just glad the system works.

I'm going to bed now, but here is a demonstration of today's work, the shotgun's alt ammo (incendiary and explosive slugs) The player will be able to cancel any pump action animation to breech-load any kind of shell and make shotgun combos, I'm very excited about this sytem.

A WIP of the shotgun ammo switching, you can insert explosive slugs or dragon's breath through the breech, or completely switch all ammo to slugs. (then alt fire breech loads a buckshot shell), still going to work on sounds and different shell collors.

What I accomplished in September: - Trees finished - 4 new working monsters (3 of them are from the same "species", but still counts heh) - Sandbox Test map finished, confirming assets are well optimized, and preparing for the development of large scale building destruction.

This may be too early to be hyped about, but... SO FAR Brutal Fate can have 350 active monsters in a moderately detailed city map and my i3 8100 can still keep it above 120fps. GZDoom 4.5 is a real beast of an engine.

@spiderwebsoft Jeff, I think you are literally too old to understand this. You come from a time when everything was physical and launching a game was such a serious and costly business that a failed launch could ruin several people's financial lives. But things changed...(1/2)

I must say, the gunplay, explosions, gibs, and general graphics of DNF 2001 looked phenomenal for early 2000's standards, the game would have been a hit if finished. I can't understand what went through George/Scott's heads and said "uh this looks ugly, lets start over".

Just a heads up. No, no code from Brutal Doom is being reused on Brutal Fate. Everything is remade from scratch. I know it was bad. Feels so great to work with a clean code.

Gib pickup implemented, it was a lot easier than I expected. This will allow for some fun mechanics, also some monsters will have special gibs that can be turned into weapons. They are still missing sounds.

Shotgun and pistol (with also the silencer added) now finished. I still may make an appropriate animation for attaching/detaching the silencer, and add a variation to the shotty pump. #screenshotsaturday #indiedev
