Some companies are run by morons. You pay a security guard a monthly salary of ZW$4 000 (US$40). How do u assign the guard to go & deliver US$500 000 cash? Is this some sort of social experiment? Two security guards in Gokwe have run away with US$300 000. It was bound to happen.
Hopewell Chin'ono says his imprisonment, for more than 40 days, has armed him with information which validates his argument that public funds, meant for hospitals & prisons, are being looted. "They have removed me from Twitter, but not from Facebook.I'll continue writing on Facebook."
On August 17,technology company
@GtelZimbabwe
offered to present a brand new cellphone to whoever would muster the highest number of retweets. They kept their word.I tweeted that I would give the phone to the imprisoned journalist Hopewell Chin'ono. I did so 2day.

Journalist Hopewell Chin'ono arrives at Harare's Rotten Row courts. Notice the leg irons. He has lost weight, but his spirits are high. He's a prisoner of conscience. Set him free.

BREAKING: Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa blames "a divisive opposition" and Western sanctions for his government's failure to deliver an economic turnaround.
BREAKING NEWS INTERNATIONAL: The United States Treasury has slapped sanctions on Zimbabwean business tycoon Kudakwashe Regimond Tagwirei and his company Sakunda Holdings for actions that have "derailed economic development and harmed the Zimbabwean people through corruption".
Zimbabwe Defence Forces commander General Philip Valerio Sibanda says the corruption & greed displayed by Zimbabwean leaders are against the teachings & ethos of the liberation struggle. It's a telling remark, coming from the country's top soldier. But what will he do about it?
Nelson Chamisa's stellar cast of lawyers in his election petition to the Constitutional Court includes South African attorneys Dali Mpofu, Chris McConnachie, Jason Mitchell, Tembeka Ngcukaitobi and Tapiwa Shumba, the youngest Zimbabwean to attain a PhD in Law.
Folks, as we pray for salvation today, let's remember to pray for Hopewell Chin'ono and Jacob Ngarivhume. They have committed no crime. They're prisoners of conscience.May God protect them & may He grant us the courage to build a Zimbabwe we all deserve. 🙏🇿🇼

Nurses & doctors are on strike for better pay & provision of medicines. But I can already predict:
1.Citizens will continue watching from the terraces, disinterestedly
2.The rest of civil servants won't join strike
3.Gvt will victimise strikers
4.We'll ask each other:Are we normal?
Morgan Tsvangirai defeated one of the most evil dictatorships on the face of the planet. But they denied him power. He was a brave democrat, a genuine leader, the president we never had. RIP Save.
When a Zanu-PF director says "fuck you" during a live broadcast on Al Jazeera, then you must know that the party has run into a dead end at the level of ideas. International television is not like a local circus where make-believe interview questions are drafted by commissars.
China has donated US$98 million to fund the construction of Zimbabwe's new 650-seater parliament. u can't blame the Chinese for this gesture. But we have a problem as Zimbos:we should instead be building a state-of-the-art hospital. We don't need hundreds of MPs amid this poverty.
Masked men. AK47 assault rifles. Cars with no number plates. Abductions. Nightclub beatings. Destruction of vendors' stalls. Township curfews. Am I describing Zimbabwe in 1983? No. Zimbabwe in August 2018.
South African minister Lindiwe Zulu says if there's no crisis in Zim, why are Zimbos flocking to SA? “Where is the dignity in all the young women I see in the car parks chasing people to ask if they can wash their cars? People working in restaurants who are teachers or nurses…”
Strive Masiyiwa pours $10 million into the fight on cholera. The government pours $20 million into the purchase of luxury cars. Zimbabwe is an amazing country.
JUST IN:The Zimbabwe Catholic Bishops' Conference has condemned corruption, criminalisation of dissent & the use of state violence in silencing grievances. The bishops quote Micah 7 verse 3:"..the ruler demands gifts, the judge accepts bribes, the powerful dictate what they desire."
Prof Jonathan Moyo says:Dexter Nduna lost the election in Chegutu East, yet he remains an MP. He knows he lost,ZEC knows he lost, voters know he lost.If ZEC& the judiciary can allow this to happen at parly level, wat stops them from facilitating the theft of a presidential election?
BREAKING: Zimbabwe's largest labour movement, the ZCTU, will declare a general strike beginning next week. ZCTU president Peter Mutasa says the exact dates will be announced shortly.Workers have been reduced to slaves in a tattered economy & must now defend their rights, he adds.
Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa is expected to address the citizens shortly. I'll keep you updated. Meanwhile, let's continue tweeting until the end of time.

The shutdown has continued today. Soldiers have blockaded roads to central Harare. Those who say this protest is a flop don't know the massive symbolism of a troop deployment against unarmed citizens. When a govt is spooked into playing its only trump card, that speaks volumes.
BREAKING: The Zimbabwean cabinet says legislation will soon be enacted to make it illegal to "de-campaign" the country. Addressing a post-cabinet briefing,Women's Affairs minister Sithembiso Nyoni said:"Campaigning against one's country shall be legislated at law & criminalised."
Zanu-PF is not only clueless but also incapable of reform. Vice-President Mohadi yesterday told people in Matabeleland South that the economy is in bad shape because at Independence the white people did not train us on how to run the economy. 40 years of blaming white people!
I'm saddened by the death of Patson Dzamara, a courageous fighter for the rights of the downtrodden. Despite all our efforts to raise funds for his operation, it was not to be. May God bless his soul.
Before the govt embarks on massive retrenchment of civil servants, the politicians must lead by example. Let's abolish the Senate and reduce legislators from 350 to 100. Limit Cabinet to 15 ministers, and no deputies. Zimbabwe's gravy train is too large for a country this poor.
We see you. You've allowed your fancy restaurants, hotels, gyms, massage parlours and safari companies to re-open during the lockdown, while you continue preventing street vendors, combi operators, hair salons, barber shops, bottle stores from earning a living. It's sickening.
When ANC secretary-general Ace Magashule said there's a crisis in Zim,u denounced him. You also told off the SA Parly's foreign relations chair Lindiwe Zulu. Today,South Africa's International Relations Minister Naledi Pandor said Zim is in crisis. Are u going to insult her too?
JUST IN: Islamist militants in Mozambique have overpowered govt forces and South African mercenaries, seizing the strategic port city of Mocimboa da Praia in the gas-rich north. The embattled Mozambican govt,it has emerged, prefers a military intervention by Zimbabwe and not Sadc.
In leg irons: Journalist Hopewell Ching'ono and opposition Transform Zimbabwe leader Jacob Ngarivhume. They're prisoners of conscience. Set them free.

BREAKING...The EU observer team says in the Zim election,"the misuse of state resources, instances of coercion & intimidation, partisan behaviour by traditional leaders & overt bias in state media in favour of the ruling party meant that a truly level playing field wasn't achieved"
In this picture taken today by photojournalist Tsvangirayi Mukwazhi, opposition MDC-Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa & lawyer Thabani Mpofu are seen leaving Harare Remand Prison after visiting journalist Hopewell Chin'ono & TransformZim leader Jacob Ngarivhume

I'm driving on Samora Machel Avenue in Harare at 1.14am. The temperature is 14 degrees Celsius. Desperate Zimbabweans are already in bank queues. They're hoping to get 20 bond notes in coins when the bank opens at 8am. This is tragic. What kind of country is this?
The CEO of Anglo American Platinum Chris Griffith says Zimbabwe is too risky to invest in. He tells Mines minister Winston Chitando:"You think I will bring half a billion dollars to Zimbabwe when you guys keep chopping and changing the rules? There is no way I will do that.'”
A man related to President Mugabe forms a company. Barely a week old,it clinches a US$304m deal to build 8 000 houses for Nssa.Nssa later tries to wriggle out,but the firm wins a US$22m arbitral award, now confirmed by High Court.Meanwhile,Nssa is paying pensioners US$2 per month.
Revolutionary greetings folks. I have a communist name, in case you haven't noticed. Ok, enough banter. Today I'm conducting a surgical operation on Zesa Holdings, one of the most rotten parastatals in Zim. The corruption has gone cancerous. I'm doing this in the public interest.
MDC-Alliance spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere tells journalists it's unacceptable that the same Health minister who's facilitating corruption in state procurement is failing dismally in ensuring nurses are paid a decent salary.
Dear Samantha. If you really have nothing useful to say about the horrific human rights abuses in this country, please keep quiet, rather than add insult to injury. People are being abducted, sexually violated and tortured. We all deserve a better country, don't you agree?
My weekend plan is to keep safe, far away from rented cars which are being used in the abduction and torture of citizens. It's not your fault that the cars are being hired by murderers, but you're liable if you protect their identity.
What are your weekend plans? We hope they involve highways and good music. We have a wide range of vehicles for any terrain you may want to drive on.

The Chinese-owned Anjin diamond mine in Chiadzwa was re-launched 2day. It's a significant development because when it was shut down in 2016,president Mugabe accused the mining companies of looting US$15bn.Here's the big question:what has changed? Mining deals must be made public.
Folks, when I was asked by my brother Dumisani Muleya in 2016 to join the Zimbabwe Independent,I thought I would come on board for only 6 months, get a feel of things & exit.Months turned into years. I'm leaving the ZimInd.Journalism has changed forever&we must change with it. 👋🏿👋🏿
Unbelievable scenes in Harare. Opposition protesters jumped onto a police truck, not to attack the police but to cheer them for their apparent reluctance to crack down on protesters. Some policemen can be seen waving to the protesters. The military, it appears, is alone on this one.
The devastating eloquence of Tendai Biti and Nelson Chamisa illuminated the Motlanthe Inquiry today, winning them deserved praise from the commissioners. They were confident, lucid, articulate. The script was well and truly flipped.
When the Acting President says as far as he knows there's no shortage of ventilators at hospitals, this sends a clear message: You're on your own, you noisy sadza eaters.
A bogus medical doctor works undetected for 6 months at Parirenyatwa Hospital. Big deal? Yeah! But here is a bigger scandal: Criminals masquerading as liberators loot and vandalise a country for 40 years, only to blame "sanctions".
Foreign minister Sibusiso Moyo says govt is investigating people who r "purporting" to be soldiers. Is he,in all seriousness, telling us that there r BOGUS soldiers, wielding AK47 rifles in central Harare,in full combat gear, driving armoured personnel carriers, & flying choppers?
I've listened to Chamisa's 40-minute video message tonight. My takeaways:
1. The state has unleashed terror on citizens.
2. Zimbabweans shouldn't wait for a political messiah.
3. Those who seek change must find strength in unity.
4. Restoration of dignity will require courage.
The enchanting artistry of a flawed genius. At his peak, the supremely gifted chanter was without peer. Soul Jah Love was part of an urban revolution which transformed the Shona language into a vivid art form, an organic tapestry, a vehicle for ghetto youth solidarity.
Jobs will vanish in South Africa & the authorities there will demand to see your legit papers as a foreigner. There will be mass deportations. Diaspora remittances will evaporate. At that point, we will all be reminded of the importance of a competent and accountable govt.
I had a fascinating chat with a Harare man who has survived Covid-19.He avoided hospitals. What saved his life is a plant known as lemonbush tea or fever tea. It's also known as lippia javanica or zumbani (Shona) or umsuzwane (Ndebele).Disclaimer:I can't vouch for any of this...
President Emmerson Mnangagwa has just finished delivering a very strange televised address to the citizens. Bizarelly,he blames everyone for causing Zimbabwe's catastrophic collapse--except himself. He says "dark forces", "opposition terrorist groups" & Western govts are to blame.
Mnangagwa's govt is now beating up nurses and doctors for demanding a living wage. These pictures by photojournalist Tsvangirayi Mukwazhi of the Associated Press, capture the brutality unleashed on peaceful medical professionals at Sally Mugabe Hospital in Harare today.
You rejected Dr Nkosana Moyo, a technocrat. Today you're shouting from the terraces, instructing Mnangagwa to appoint unelected technocrats to Cabinet. No, it doesn't work like that. You said "Ngosana haana vanhu". Enjoy your choices.
BREAKING: Lord Peter Hain,a former British minister & anti-apartheid campaigner, today demanded the extending of sanctions against Zimbabwean ministers and security chiefs over "escalating human rights violations".Hain says the British govt must take a tough stance against abuses.
Zimbabwe's largest brewery, Delta Beverages, says it will peg beer & soft-drink prices in US dollars with effect from January 4. In rejecting bond notes & RTGS, the company correctly points out that these "are not currencies". This is yet another reminder that 1:1 is bad fiction.
High Court judge Justice Chitapi will hear journalist Hopewell Chin'ono's bail application on Thursday this week. Hopewell has not committed a crime. He's a prisoner of conscience. Set him free.

Covid-19 yesterday hit Parliament. It has now hit higher office. When we tell corrupt and incompetent politicians to stop destroying the public health sector, we do it out of genuine concern for the collective survival of every Zimbabwean.
In China, I paid less than US$20 for a pair of spectacles. Here in Harare, opticians are telling me to fork out US$250. The other day, a medical aid provider told me to pay a monthly subscription equivalent to US$180,for just 2 beneficiaries. Utter madness! Just open the borders.
This morning i met a distraught elderly man. In need of medication for chronic ailments incl high BP, cholesterol, diabetes & arthritis,he had gone to 4 pharmacies. The lowest quote was US$130. "I'm a pensioner, where do I get US dollars?" He wept in front of me. Where is the govt?
Nelson Chamisa's South African lawyers are being denied entry into the Constitutional Court.Adv Dali Mpofu (right) says Justice Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi's stance is a travesty of justice.A spectacle is unfolding. How on earth can Zimbabwe deny 3 South Africans mere work permits?
Patrick Chinamasa is being irresponsible. The MDC-Alliance is not a "terrorist organisation". Why is he insisting that the July 31 protest will be violent? Peaceful protest is a constitutional right. You declared Joshua Nkomo a terrorist before committing genocide in the 1980s.
Morgan Tsvangirai defeated one of the most evil dictatorships on the face of the planet. But they denied him power. He was a brave democrat, a genuine leader, the president we never had. RIP Save.

Journalist Mduduzi Mathuthu of
@zimlive
was instrumental in exposing the Draxgate Covid-19 procurement scandal. You do not storm his home on spurious grounds. What crime has he committed? If Mdu is harmed in any way, you are culpable.
While the Masiyiwa family & Higher Life Foundation should be commended for offering to pay the salaries of public hospital doctors, this is not a sustainable solution. What Zimbabwe needs is an accountable government that respects its constitutional duties and responsibilities.

Winky D's lyrical mastery is the stuff of legend. But in his new anthemic hit, Ibotso, the Gafa reminds us why his amazing artistry is without peer.Winky D is the incorruptible voice of a shattered generation:poverty-stricken citizens who have no jobs,no dignity,no hope.
The corruption at Zinara is astonishing, even by Zimbabwean standards. Each director got US$4 000 to buy gym equipment for their private use at home. At the same time, these directors were being paid "gym membership allowances". Do we have a govt in this country?
Opposition leader Noah Manyika rejects President Mnangagwa's invitation to a second "national dialogue" meeting. Manyika says any discussion that excludes the main opposition MDC-Alliance, unions, civil society & other critical stakeholders lacks credibility & is a waste of time
Speaking in Harare, Malawian President Chakwera has told Zimbabweans of Malawian descent that they're free to claim their Malawian citizenship. I foresee thousands of people taking up the offer. There was a time when Malawian passports made it easier to enter difficult countries.
Greetings folks. The sun is rising above the Harare skyline; it must not signal endless suffering but the promise of a new dawn. We dare not falter. None but ourselves.

Aliko Dangote says when he tried to build a cement factory in an African country (there are no prizes for guessing which one), a minister told him to "bring a briefcase full of money next time" to ensure the project got expedited. He never returned.
With respect, the magistrate is overpaying his hand here. Beatrice Mtetwa is an internationally acclaimed human rights lawyer. She's a fearless defender of politically persecuted Zimbabweans. This ruling raises serious questions about the state of the justice delivery system.
#BREAKING
Magistrate Ngoni Nduna rules that lawyer Beatrice Mtetwa stands down from representing journalist Hopewell Chin'ono and directs that the Law Society of Zimbabwe should cancel her licence for "scandalising the court"
They've kept their word! 👏🏿👏🏿Thank you
@GtelZimbabwe
for building such an amazing brand. Most importantly, thank you, my friends all over the world, for winning this gift for the courageous journalist Hopewell Chin'ono, a prisoner of conscience who remains unjustly detained.
Zimbabweans are highly literate, but their capacity to translate education into economic development is shockingly dismal. They boast about a string of irrelevant academic degrees and yet 75% of the population wallows in extreme poverty. We need a new way.
