Reinforce positive steps to desired outcomes with yourself and others. The opposite just creates negative programming and self talk that lead to poor performance. I changed the way we taught snipers to a positive teaching style and our graduation rate increased from 70% to 99%.

27" thick turret armor plate from an unfinished Japanese Yamato class battleship hit by a US Navy 16" gun firing a 2700lb AP projectile at 1992 fps in a test done in 1946. It broke the plate in two. On display at the Washington Naval Yard museum in DC.

Recent fatal crashes of both a Navy FA18 and Thunderbirds F-16 are stark reminders that both aircraft on average are about 25yrs old. We'd think twice about driving a 25yr old car across the state, but we go into combat with planes almost as old as the new pilots flying them?

Admiral Halsey commanded the 3rd Fleet in the Pacific during WWII. The 3rd was larger than the entire US Navy is today. This austere rack in a small cabin was where he slept aboard the USS New Jersey. It says a lot about his leadership style I think.
