An old tech geek with too many cats. I'm a PostgreSQL author, speaker, and fanatic. I play too many video games, and tinker with clusters to keep learning.
This isn't just yet another Postgres memory tuning guide. Based on decades of experience as a DBA, research, benchmarks, and a healthy sampling of opinions other experts. Make your Postgres use memory wisely and without risking the ire of the OOM killer!
@katefeetie
Hulu has always had the literal worst episode tracking I've ever encountered. It's actually impressive how bad it is. And they never bothered to fix it. Now it's being replaced by the Disney+ app in March, so maybe that's better.
@pepesgrandma
Looks like we're getting One World Government whether we like it or not. First step is to essentially dissolve existing national borders across the globe.
@EndWokeness
I hate to say it, but probably TV and everything that came afterwards. Life is now so convenient that we never have to really interact with other people. We've lost our sense of community and the responsibility that goes with it.
@CountDankulaTV
So even if someone misinterprets a situation and just _feels offended_, you're permanently labeled with a hate incident, which is treated the same as a hate crime. Nice.
@vxunderground
500ms is extremely sus for SSH. At that point, I'd be looking too, starting with DNS, handshake problems, expired certs, or some kind of timeout. SSH breaks so often for innocuous reasons like that, it could have been a routine problem.

My main beef with NMS and that ilk are the endless busywork. I can't have fun constantly micromanaging my damn oxygen, radiation exposure, inventory, etc. FFS. That's just called a job.
@culturaltutor
In the case of weathered varnish, I'm of the opinion that removing it in favor of a new clear coat is uncontroversial. It's one of the easiest ways to erase the damage done by time without adversely affecting the underlying painting.
@mountain_ghosts
All true. The only consolation is that you initiated the process and are expecting these steps to occur in roughly a certain order concerning relatively obscure services and addresses in a time-gated manner. It's chaos as a weird kind of security.
@robmen
Every chain is only as strong as the weakest link. With infinitely long toolchain dependencies running the world's infrastructure, there are many attack vectors like this just waiting to be exploited. Hacking has always been primarily social engineering.
@slight_defect
I was born with a serious heart defect and went into heart failure at 2 months old. Yet here I am 46 years later, having had my existential crisis and PTSD before most people learned to read. Nature doesn't play favorites, you just gotta play the hand you're dealt.
@JimFergusonUK
They're all complicit. Politicians for mandates in general, and pharmaceuticals for hiding or lying about research to obfuscate the known side effects. They should count themselves lucky if we don't try them under Nuremberg rulings.
@AngelicaOung
I don't really care about the ad, but a more respectful approach may have been a virtual maelstrom of all those concepts sucked like a whirlpool into the device.
@JoeyMannarinoUS
What I want to know is, where are the benevolent billionaires? Musk can't be the only one. Why aren't they helping to stop this? They can't all be in on it.
And poisonous seed oils, transfat margarine, copious amounts of sugar, all wrapped up in endocrine disrupters. It really shows how durable the human body really is.
Woah, this Hacker News thread on my Postgres memory guide got a lot of traction. Oddly enough, much of the discussion is delving into the consequences of UUIDs. 😂
@goddeketal
Nothing says "nutrition" like three different seed oils and two sugar substitutes in the first five ingredients. My wife wasn't even allowed to eat breakfast cereal where sugar was in the top three.
@greentexts_bot
It won't work. The loan doesn't just come as a giant lump sum. You have to get a new loan every year you're in school. It's the cumulative amount and incurred interest that's causing so many problems lately.
@Nerdrotics
1. I'm not signing up to some rando service to watch a show.
2. Discovery was a crime against Trek, and I swore off this entire generation as a result.
I'm happy with my headcannon being TOS, TNG, and DS9 TBH.
@WallStreetSilv
It's literally impossible to delete that much email on accident. Systems of that scale have multiple layers of automated archival and backup systems. That's straight up criminal action.
@Altimor
"Experts and specialists lead you quickly into chaos. They are a source of useless nit-picking, the ferocious quibble over a comma."
- Frank Herbert
@LibertyCappy
Seriously, what the hell happened here? I know studies show people are easily misled and manipulated, but JFC. I have whiplash from watching this.
@0xAlaric
I don't know about them, but I move about my domicile, and having lived in trailers with broken heating and frozen pipes, I know which approach I'd rather use.
@KimIversenShow
So your defense is: "Pah! She was only brutally murdered by having a huge chunk of her skull blown off, not beheaded!"
Glad to have that cleared up.
@USTechWorkers
Is Google just terrible at vetting? I've worked with tons of Indians since my career began, and maybe two of them have been a bit sketchy, just like any other ethnicity. How did Google get such a big batch?
@BrianRoemmele
Memory isn't enough. Executive function is necessary for AGI. What we have now is a viable hippocampus. What we need are various modular cortexes which can communicate through a corpus callosum analog.

* Prices aren't rising!
* Prices are rising, but not much!
* Eggs don't cost more!
* Eggs cost more, but not much!
* Ok, eggs are expensive, and that's a good thing!
@MattWalshBlog
Nobody was ever going to show up. There's like... 5 white nationalists left in the country, but they have to make it seem like there are tens thousands. Demand has far outstripped supply.
@michaelmalice
If you cast a wide enough net, it is possible to find an expert espousing literally any possible position you can imagine. The best part is that will include peer reviewed studies of all description and publication.
@SwipeWright
You don't understand, Colin. Adhering strictly to shallow gender stereotypes is the only way to tell whether or not someone is male or female. Now excuse me while I go drink a beer while chopping some wood from the back of my pickup.
@TRHLofficial
I'm not a Christian and I love Christmas. It's about family, being inside, staying warm, maybe sharing gifts and celebrating. I'm not "rethinking" anything.
@JustStop_Oil
@NationalGallery
"Stopping oil" without an immediate replacement would kill approximately 80% of the world population. You are doing nothing for your cause but driving people against it. The only "action" that should be taken from this is to put you in jail for destruction of property.
@cliftonaduncan
I'm a dyed in the wool cynic, and even I have a soft spot for magic and wonder, specifically because it offers some tiny respite from the drudgery of the real world. Killing it is tacitly admitting you'd rather be miserable.
@SwipeWright
JFC, this is just straight up religion...
The phrase "biology needs queer theory to get the phenotype right" is the most nonsensical gobbledegook I've ever read in my life.
@sourpatchlyds
@moonlit_misfit
Now now, you know the only viable and commendable life you can have is to pursue a career and devote all your Earthly efforts to whichever soulless corporation will have you. Choosing to have a family is surrendering to The Patriarchy, as you well know.
