Few other companies can claim to have the same devs working for ~10 generations of games, retaining knowledge and best practices and able to impart them onto future generations of creators.
Metroid producer Sakamoto's (64) video today reminds me that Switch 2 will likely be the last console gen for the NES-era creators.
Miyamoto (71), Tezuka (63), Kondo (62), Aonuma (61), Sugiyama (65) all at/near retirement age, with many others approaching 60. End of an era.
@JonComms
me: Ugh, we've had the same 3 main characters for 35+ years now, i want them to change it up
kid who just turned 22: "Would be cool if link, zelda, and ganondorf were in the same game again like my favorite wii game when i was 5"
When you clear classic mode with someone you get a spirit of the character that you beat it with. For everyone except cloud it's a different render from one of their games. Cloud is just his damned smash render again. They couldn't even get official ff7 art for cloud. Wtf.
One thing about the PS2 era that I miss is that the "big AAA" games at the time felt like video gamey video games that happened to have good production values. RE4, DMC, Prince of Persia, etc.
Now they feel like production value story things that happen to be video games.
Today marks the longest ever gap in brand new releases for "The Legend of Zelda" series since the first game released in 1986.
The previous record for longest time between releases was Link's Awakening and Ocarina of Time which took 5 years, 5 months, and 15 days.
Holy fucking shit WHAT
Harvest moon 3 on game boy color lets you pick boy or girl... but if you pick girl the game ENDS when you get married (the game CONTINUES if you pick boy)
What's worse is they sold the girl version SEPARATELY in japan.
@Cenauru
literally the only 'service' to a community that discord provides is it gives you immediate access to chat with other fans of the community and MAYBE the creators. For all other reasons it's AWFUL.

all of those positives are at the expense of someone's livelihood/hard work, so they're net-negative in the end, therefore still negatives.
@9_volt_
"maybe trailing missions are kinda boring"
YEAH WELL IN ANCIENT JAPAN THEY TRAILED THINGS ALL THE TIME THEIR CULTURE SAID YOU SHOULD ALWAYS TRAIL BEHIND PEOPLE ONLY AN SJW WOULD HATE TRAILING MISSIONS
@9_volt_
You can't just conclude a 10 year saga and then roll back into the next 10 year saga like nothing happened. The year break was much needed, for me.

@RycasterOnline
I like all of these except durability, unless they change it so that the more you use a tool the less it sells for. currently a 99% used tool sells for full value.
Also let me buy bait like you let me buy medicine.

i feel like kids/teens dont have their own spaces anymore. Everywhere they go online there's adults there, too. They don't have their own slang anymore, either, since adults steal that via tiktok/twitter/etc. It's gotta be rough.
@enterzalman
At least that was a game that was out of print and unable to be downloaded
Vs a game you can digitally buy right now or already get for free by subscribing to PS+
@jasonschreier
shoutouts to all the dummies in your replies defending crunch because video games are more important to them than human lives. Champs, all of them.
@enterzalman
the formula does not work for this art form at all. Games are too long and take too long to make for this model. Legitimately only sorta kinda works for a huge back catalogue of retro games and not much else.
Hi, I've played botw for probably close to 300 hours, done the great plateau about 4 or 5 times, and only just today I learned there's a ladder on the side of the temple of time.
@d0nnykong
@CartridgeGames
honestly the most surprising thing is that it wasn't removed from the switch lite.
They were probably developing the switch lite and upon putting the pieces together for the prototype were like "oooooooh yeaaaaaah i forgot we put an LED in this thing"
Nintendo of America has posted nothing on the hour every hour since 6am PT today
6am - Nothing
7am - Nothing
8am - Nothing
9am - Nothing
10am - Nothing
Interestingly every console 3D Zelda game released has taken longer than the last.
Time between...
OoT and Mm: 523 days
MM & TWW: 960
TWW & TP: 1437
TP & SS: 1825
SS & BotW: 1932
BotW and today: 1995
If this trend continues the next "3D" Zelda game would release in ~2029
This has literally been a problem since like 1995. SotN got largely ignored at release due to being 2D. Wasn't appreciated til later. Graphics and production values are king to the mass console market.
Lot of talk around these two has really revealed how much “big budget cinematic open world” brain rot has affected gaming culture into thinking 2D games are lesser

This is probably the first time i've ever seen a fanmade spiritual successor actually look and feel like it was an entry in the IP that we somehow missed. They nailed the style and music perfectly.
Playing re4 for the 90th time and it's just so nice how it's game game game. No skill trees. No equipment loadouts. No abilities locked behind story. Has a light enough touch of progression with weapon upgrades to keep you feeling powerful.
