Mattel: Toy ads are the same stock background of a bland living room with a kid photoshopped in, making the product look inoffensive but boring. TOMY: Toy ads are large, elaborate train layouts that present the products as colorful, fun, and appealing.

History of Thomas Wooden Railway figure 8 sets: a tweet thread. Figure 8 sets are the perfect way to start with a wooden train system. The very first figure 8 set was Instant System No. 4 (LC99102) from 1993. It retailed for the (then fairly high) price of $59.99.

The TrackMaster Thomas at Action Canyon Set is probably THE most successful, best-selling Thomas product. Every kid had it, regardless if they even liked Thomas or not, and it set the standard for every TrackMaster set since.

Looking for one of these. It's made by Maxim but has been discontinued for years and doesn't come up for sale that often. It comes with six special curve tracks that lay evenly when going up the mountain slope.

Flashback to that time when TrackMaster, instead of releasing Splatter and Dodge together with a double ended coach like TOMY did, placed them in separate sets with a regular coach that happened to be the same COLOR as the original.

I have a confession I need to make. For Thomas (the show) I'm a total S1-S5 chad (S6-S7 is stretching it). But for TWR I vastly prefer late 1990s-mid 2000s; I think "1992 only!!!" people are idiots. I also prefer TA over ERTL but I can appreciate the latter.

Sadly the "babyfication" of Thomas has roots going back 20 years. Engines bending, stretching, and bouncing. Brighter colors, simplified appearances. Granted, the majority of tie-in material didn't look like this, but it predicted the future.

All of the signs that point to Thomas Wood being a failure: - failed Toys R Us launch - failed specialty store launch - skewing Amazon reviews to maintain 5 star ratings - retooling of the line only a year in which lead to the cancellation of about 20 or so products

Here's an interesting TrackMaster fact. The Fall 2009 Big Friends assortment ( #65385 ) cardback shows Proteus, Harvey, Sir Handel, and Lady, which did not come out. However, Donald, Duncan, and Skarloey did, but are not shown. Seemingly, they took their places.

There were three versions of Thomas & Percy's Carnival Adventure Set; the normal release with Thomas and Percy, Target exclusive with bonus James and Cotton Candy car, and Toys "R" Us exclusive with bonus Sodor Zoo lion car. A fourth with the Chinese Dragon included may exist.

I love how the CG animated seasons of Thomas, of which there are 12 of, made such little cultural impact where people are still only finding out just now that they existed. As far as the general public is concerned, TTTE went straight from models to the new 2D format.

Very little known fact: TrackMaster Murdoch was released as a "Big Friend" in 2007 ( #65133 ) (in a longer box than normal, too) and isn't shown on the back with the other characters in that assortment.
