A retired barber from Basehor, last game, approached me and said this could be his last year so he wanted to tell me how much he loves to watch us play and knew I had been here for 16 years. I told him to be here for 17. Reminded me how much more this all is than just basketball.

So proud of my players this week. Tough six point win vs. LSW on Tuesday, then getting home at 11:45 Thursday night after an OT win vs Liberty North and then lose by one the next day to St. Thomas after getting up for school to get ready for finals. Yep, this team has it!!!

What an amazing first week of practice. Kids wore masks during the whole practice. I find it sad that the kids will do what the experts are telling us to do, and for some reason, they are the ones we take away from. Hope the leagues make a choice for the kids.

Was asked many years ago what I meant when I talked about toughness. Had to think and toughness is when someone does what no one else wants to do. Hold teammates accountable, want to practice, enjoy productivity, etc. Making decisions that the normal population will not.

#0 Carter Bergman - Kid joined BL in 5th grade. Signed to play baseball at Missouri State. Fierce competitor and who knew he would be 6'2". Averaging 13.5 ppg/4.5 rpg/3.3 apg while shooting 47%. Has become a great leader and works hard to build confidence in his teammates.

#1 Trevor McBride - True Point Guard who is poised and makes everyone around him better. Averaging 11.5ppg/4.8apg/5.13 assist/TO ratio and he has the ball in his hands much of the game. 35.5% 3fg. Undecided but will play ball at the next level as he has several offers.

#13 - Ty Hofer Another one of our 2nd grade stars! Has turned into a great shooter and is a good defender. Averaging 7.3 ppg/3.8rpg/and is shooting 41% from three and is over 50% after Christmas. Ty is undecided but you need to come watch. Kid is 6'4" and can flat shoot it!

Watched our BLHS kids do some amazing things today in Wichita. We sang the anthem, PR’d throwing objects, won some medals, qualified for finals, and won a softball game. Probably something I missed cause that’s how we roll. Let’s all bring home some hardware tomorrow!!

#5 Aidan Ford - Yep, he has been with me a long time. Incredible Defender and so quick on the court. Averaging 5.6 ppg/2.9 rpg shooting 38% from 3fg. This kid has been one of two reasons why we took off this year. When he found his groove, we started improving astronomically.

OK Students. Today’s assignment...drum roll....clean your room and the kitchen. Every three minutes you stop and do 10 burpees, lunges, squats, jump squats, and alternating jump lunges. If you can’t stand before you finished cleaning, you get an A!!! Love ya all!

I want to congratulate the JV and Freshman as they completed a trying season. It was an adventure. Weekly emails on Sundays with schedule changes, long breaks, delays, and really, not a lot of practice. But, we got a season in during a pandemic. Congrats and know you are loved!

Put the b-ball team through a gauntlet this summer. We went 37-2 in 30 days. This group loves the game, they love to learn about the game, and they love to play the game. Good post game, good shooters, everyone has great skills, and they play defense. Cant wait for Nov. 12th!

#32 - Aidan Ingram Yep, we had five of these guys start in 2nd grade. Has become vital to our success on defense in the paint. Leads the team in charges taken and is our best on court communication. He is taking his high ACT score to KU next year. No doubt, he will do very well!

I have never heard any organization tell a kid to play one sport. Coaches tell kids what they have to do to be great and then kids have decisions. With increased expectations in all sports, I believe all sports are guilty of forcing kids into one sport. Let kids make choices.

Frosh is 3-1, JV is 3-1, Varsity is 3-1. JV may be the youngest in 5A/6A basketball and the freshmen lost a few players to JV. Varsity is finding their new identity and will be tough. To say the least, I’m proud of them all. I’ll say it here, we will be in the mix in the end.

Jackson Oberndorfer - Hey! Another one who started in 2nd grade. Had brain surgery and then came back in 5th grade. Incredible kid who is now our camera man. His next step is he is going to school in Oklahoma and he is also going into the engineering world.

Whew! 6:30 am starts for conditioning, 4 days a week. Work outs with me twice a week. Will finish our 31st-33rd games this weekend. 7 on 7 football for most with other football camps. Juggling baseball for others. Three days of 🏀 before a break. Proud of our young men at BLHS.

Finished practice 25 today. I feel we are well on our way. We still have a lot to do as we prepare for state as March 14th is that magic date. For now we prepare for January 4th, and if our Bobcats could make it, that would be great! I tried...Happy New Year Bobcat Nation!!!

I feel like our program has been scrambling and teaching this year. But, being young for a year makes it feel this way. Then, I realized that the varsity is 8-3, the JV is 7-3, and the freshman team is 7-2. Hang with us BL fans, something special may happen in the end!!!

Proud of my guys last night after a big win. My teams who win in the end realize that accountability is what I demand and it’s because I love them. People tend to struggle when being held accountable but when each person holds their piece of the rope, teams can do great things.

Just spent 30 minutes teaching 5th graders 2 on 2 wing denial. Probably need 10 more hours. Teaching man is hard work. But fun to watch!!!

Basketball has begun and the kids are getting their smiles back. But I have one constant message for them. Listen, have respect for all, and love. Whether it’s following the rules for the pandemic or making sure we all feel safe, we must improve these three items this summer.

Landon Bever - This kid was one of our original 2nd graders. Moved to Florida before 4th grade and came back. Another great kid who helps our program. Stays after to rebound and never complains. He is also taking his high ACT score to Arizona State and will do some engineering!
