@scottEweinberg
Yeah, I don't see how it's tone deaf. They thought something was important to do, and they did it. As a gay man, I certainly wasn't looking for representation in the Avengers films, but the fact that they cared enough to try in a non-grandstanding way means SOMETHING.
The moment when Ripley says - "Marge, can I hold you?" and reaches for her - is the greatest acting of Paltrow's career and some of the greatest acting ever committed to film. It's chilling.
If you wanna see the exact moment Nicholas Galitzine became a star, check out HANDSOME DEVIL from 2016. It's basically the foundation for everything that HEARTSTOPPER does. And Andrew Scott pops up as a teacher. It's a lovely queer romance with top notch performances.
If anyone watched Donald Trump tonight disrespect the memory of one of Biden's sons and call the other a 'drug addict' on national television, and can excuse it in any way, you're a fucking pig. "It is what it is because you are who you are." That's the line of the night.
Reeling over the shocking news that
@ScottWamplerRIP
has passed. What an amazing dude who loved movies, loved talking about movies, and was just overall a lovely human being. I was supposed to be on
@Kingcast19
recently but had to push. Now I'll never hear that voice live again.
If you're a fan of subterranean claustrophobic terror, or if you're just someone who wanted to see AS ABOVE SO BELOW improved upon, keep your eyes out for DEEP FEAR, an awesome new French horror film that doesn't skimp on the gore. It goes there. And such a cool final act.
Just accepted the position of Managing Director at Three Dollar Bill Cinema in Seattle, an amazing queer film organization. Looking forward to taking them in some exciting new directions, and moving to a new city I adore. Ready for the next chapter.
I have nothing against
@wesball
. I quite enjoyed the
#MazeRunner
films. But the last Apes trilogy was phenomenal. We don't need new content in this franchise, not so soon. I DO NOT understand AT ALL.
Exclusive: The Apes are back. Fox has brought on Wes Ball, the filmmaker behind the popular
#MazeRunner
film series, to develop and direct a new
#PlanetOfTheApes
feature
Love this Boebert BS and how she set herself up for it.
Boerbert - "Do you know who I am?"
Usher - "No."
Boerbert - "I'm Lauren Boebert."
Usher - "Who?"
Boebert - "I barely won re-election."
Usher - "For what?"
Boebert - "Um...Congress?!"
Usher - "Cool. Please get the fuck out."
BELFAST was a magical experience. Expect a lot of deserved awards recognition. Judi Dench and Ciaran Hinds are no-brainers. Career best from Jamie Dornan. But Caitríona Balfe is the one to watch. Maybe Branagh's best non-Shakespeare work yet. Such a crowd-pleaser. Love love love.
JEANNE DU BARRY was far better than I had expected. Not super familiar with Maïwenn apart from HIGH TENSION, but I thought she had a sound hand as director. Also thought Johnny Depp was pretty terrific here, more in line with something like THE LIBERTINE, which I also enjoyed.
TERRIFIER 2 might be the bloodiest, goriest, no fucks to give wildness I've seen in many years.
@damienleone
is creating one hell of a fucked up universe. And so nice seeing
@Felissa_Rose
pop up for a scene. Y'all are not prepared for this fully stuffed madness.
Just gonna say - "We don't get a lot of things to care about" is both the best line of 2021, and the best line delivery of 2021. It's Nic Cage at the height of his powers.

Aaaaaaaaand...I spent $400. Goddamnit.
I must apologize to
@ScreenDrafts
Nation for what I did on the Spielberg draft. I love JURASSIC PARK but always pushed it as second tier. I just watched it for the 700th time, but very stoned, and I feel like it was the first time I'd ever truly 'seen' it. Top three Spielberg.
Watching our
@scriptsgonewild
read of NOES3 where
@ScottWamplerRIP
turned in a blisteringly hilarious performance as "Dr. Neil Goldman" and can't help but shed a few tears. Dude was legit as awesome as they come. Gonna miss that voice and that wit. This world makes zero sense.
Emma Stone won because she deserved to win. Of the five nominees, she easily gave the best LEAD performance. And that role required WAY more of her than any of the others. Gladstone might have been the soul of KOTFM, but Stone is the body, mind, and soul of POOR THINGS.
In just a five year span, Roy Scheieder made JAWS, MARATHON MAN, SORCERER, LAST EMBRACE, and ALL THAT JAZZ. Spielberg. Schlesinger. Friedkin. Demme. Fosse. Name a better five film run that that?! Scheider would be on my personal Mount Rushmore.
CHALLENGERS is a perfect movie. The writing, the direction, the score. The three best performances of 2024 in the best movie of 2024. Luca done did it again, and Mike Faist is a gift. Finally I can say: Zendaya rocked.

It's misogynistic to suggest that a woman should forego HER income for the income of her husband. Just because they're together doesn't necessarily mean they share a bank account, and two people who work hard for their money shouldn't have to support one another. I mean Jesus.
When I was a kid I thought The Razzies were cool. Now, the idea that ANY awards body consisting of adult human beings could include a 12-year-old on their list of nominees is vile, disgusting, and proof positive that this organization belongs the way of the extinct. Bye, idiots.
This is a man who always stole every movie he was in. A man who was used by a system and by people within that system. A man who likely thought his career was either over, or the best parts long behind. I could not be happier for this renaissance. Very few actually deserve one.
ROAD TO PERDITION is a masterpiece that gets slept on too much. Underrated Tom Hanks. Paul Newman going out with a bang. Early Daniel Craig. Beautifully composed picture from top to bottom. This should be in the pantheon of great flicks.
Hey
@wbpictures
- I have a film festival running March 20-26. Why not let us screen COYOTE V. ACME, see how a ravenous festival audience reacts to it, and then decide to be artist-forward and release it? You've had so much bad press lately - wouldn't a WIN feel nice?
Don't let people undersell CHALLENGERS topping the box office with $15M. An original adult sports romantic drama topped the goddamn box office. That's pretty damned remarkable for this day and age. I would love to see adult dramas make a comeback. They are sorely missed.
My favorite Oscars in a long time. Sure, there was messiness. But I loved that they focused more on the nominees than the films. In a year of such loss, focusing on PEOPLE seemed an appropriate response. I thought Soderbergh fixed A LOT of Oscar issues. Such a crazy blast!
@bdgrabinski
"JAWS would be a perfect movie if they just got rid of the stuff with the shark."
"The shark is the best part of an otherwise poorly made, terribly acted film about small town politics."
I want a talk show where John Carpenter and Patti LuPone just sit around dunking on people left and right. And John Waters is the bartender just giggling through it all and tossing immaculate gay shade from time to time.
@MorganPeteBrown
@keithcalder
Either a cane was CGI'd out or a cane was supposed to be CGI'd in. There has to be a documentary's worth of material about the decision making process there.
There is like a legit 30% chance I will be a dad in 2024/2025 and I am feeling all the feelings. Thank goodness for surrogates. Thank goodness for all the amazing single parents out there showing how it's done. Thank goodness for all the guidance out there. Early stages but wow.
First in-person

in a year and a half. Great to see these faces again in the flesh, great to see the kick-ass new Aero Theatre, and great to join for two - count'em TWO - back to back recordings. Become a Patron if you wanna hear either or both of them!
People are walking out of OPPENHEIMER with a lot of thoughts and opinions. About performances. About visuals. About the existential questions the film asks. I walked out of the theatre grinning like an idiot with only one word whistling on the nuclear winds...
Krumholtz.

Which is the problem. The fact that it couldn't just happen and exist. Instead, it had to be turned into an 'issue', therefore making it seem abnormal. It's not abnormal. Why can't we just have nice things and be happy about it?
Spent last night in the ER after a fairly major anxiety attack (first one I've had in about a year). Don't wish them on anyone in this world, and this one came out of nowhere and was one of the worst I've ever had. Legit thought I was having a stroke. Time for some self-care.
FLY ME TO THE MOON was warm and quite funny and absolutely delightful. Excellent showcase for Scarlett Johansson, and Jim Rash steals the whole damned thing. The kind of movie they just don’t make anymore. Hope this one does well at the box office.
@Spider8I
@scottEweinberg
It's not quantity - it's quality. The film doesn't have to be about LGBTQ people to have them represented. For me, the most accomplished representation is the kind that inserts us into the story in a fluid and unassuming way that just adorns the story rather than take it over.
@IndieWire
Because what Ezra Miller is accused of doing is nowhere close to what Allen and Polanski are accused of doing. Any journalist out there making a comparison like this probably shouldn't be...I dunno...'doing journalism'. It's lazy and misleading and straight up bad writing.
UNDERWATER was a slick (pun intended) horror flick. Edge of my seat from beginning to end, and a stellar cast (including Kristen Stewart) elevate it. I sort of loved this one. And what an ending.
Just a quick shout out to the fine folks at
@ScreamboxTV
for having curated a really unique and exciting slate of films on their service. And, as far as I have heard, they treat their filmmakers like gold. Can't wait to see what's in store now that TERRIFIER 2 done blew up.

HE is rich. She is married to him. They are separate people with separate jobs with separate incomes. Maybe they support one another. Maybe they don't. That is their business, not yours, not mine. People appreciate her art and support her. You just keep living in your bubble.
Never thought I'd live to see the day when HBO, the most beloved, consistent, and industry changing cable brand in history, would be eradicated just because some idiot took the reigns and put all his eggs in the lame ass
@Discovery
basket.
Love having so my pals in town for this! That said, on Saturday, no friendships exists when I dive into another
@ScreenDrafts
with
@RebekahMcKendry
and
@Elrickane
aka "The Night Roy Came Home". Will Zito finally receive his long overdue justice? Or was FVJ his 'final chapter'?
Late to the party today but
@TheDreaClark
is one of the coolest humans on the planet, one of my favorite people, and hearing her celebrated on such a large stage this weekend was beautiful. That said, Drea praise deserves a much larger stage. Something like the MASH finale.
Launching in February 2022. A new subverted movie ranking game where it's all about chaos. Only one film survives. Follow

I wasn't looking for representation because, in my mind, any number of the characters in those films COULD be LGBTQ. I can just assume what I want about that. I don't need it spelled out for me. And, when I know the MCU isn't there yet, that is enough for me. Again, baby steps.
I'd love folks to stop slamming BELFAST. It's a personal, sweet, lovely, entirely engaging film about family and the way such small moments in time shape our entire lives. What's wrong with a film being a crowd pleaser? Don't we deserve something that makes us feel warm? C'mon.
Just started rewatching the LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy for the first time really since theatres. So, ya, I might have been ridiculous for underrating them all these years. Never too late to teach an old dog new tricks.
Spent all night and morning thinking on what happened last night at the Oscars, and how it teaches a valuable lesson for us moving forward. The lesson is this: be as kind to strangers as Gaga was to her idol. "I got you" is the only takeaway we need from last night.
I maintain the greatest single moment in cinema history is when the anaconda regurgitates Jon Voight in "Anaconda" and the half-eaten motherfucker WINKS at Jennifer Lopez. Nothing will ever top it.
There are few moments in cinema as purely joyful, emotional, and goosebump inducing than the "Rainbow Connection" number in THE MUPPETS. All that affection and nostalgia. I weep each and every time I see it. Jim Henson would have been so proud.
Last night's
@ScreenDrafts
Michael Crichton Super feels like a fever dream. So much delight. So much fury. Did NOT shake out the way any of us expected, but looking back on the final list, I am kind of OK with that.
@claykeller
and Darrin Navarro are worthy adversaries.
If you wanna know why my brain is fried it's because I listened to 10 episodes of
@ScreenDrafts
on my 37-hour drive from Alabama to Seattle. Bond. X-Men. Canux. DCOM. Thanksgiving. Serial Killers. Mad Scientist. Bob Dylan. Dinosaurs. And Legacy Sequels. I have nothing left in me.
Only just now recovered from the
@ScreenDrafts
Legends draft on Tuesday. Gotta say - super happy with the final list and the patrons did not disappoint. Can also say, with certainly, no greater wild card has ever existed than
@MarkerRyan625
.
@GrahamSkipper
and I are but students.
PLEASE CAST JENNIFER LAWRENCE IN MORE COMEDIES. I thought NO HARD FEELINGS was perfectly charming and Lawrence has that kind of Christina Applegate comedic timing that just delivers non-stop. I laughed a lot and the central relationship really worked. Big fan.
Andre Braugher was a master. Equally adept at dramatic and comedic roles. Delivered one of the all-time comedic performances in BROOKLYN NINE-NINE. 61 was way too young. Super sad right now. Gonna miss this incredible voice of his. Any time he showed up, you were in for a treat.
Been obsessed with Geena Davis since I was a kid. Getting to celebrate her with
@TheDreaClark
is a thrill. Knowing that Geena knows it's happening and has heard my name is even MORE of a thrill. Don't expect shenanigans here, folks - just goddamn deserved respect and joy.
Looks like we have a new ranking:
1. Dead Reckoning Part 1
2. Fallout
3. Mission: Impossible III
4. Rogue Nation
5. Mission: Impossible
6. Ghost Protocol
7. Mission: Impossible 2
Harrison Ford just presented the Best Picture Oscar to EEAAO and seeing Ke Huy Quan react to him is already the highlight of 2023. Well played, Oscars. Well played.
How about we take a 10-year break from any film that costs over, say, $50M? No Marvel. No LucasFilm. No Fast and Furious. No Pixar. If it's budgeted over $50M, it doesn't get made. Let's just give it a shot and see what happens? Do people stop going, or do their tastes change?
Anyone out there saying Michael K. Williams should have 'just stopped' doing drugs can 'just stop' being an ignorant, thoughtless asshole. Just because someone DOES drugs doesn't mean they want to, and just because someone dies from an overdose doesn't mean they deserve it.
@talaska_a
@scottEweinberg
Right. And the surprise is what matters. No one expected it. They certainly didn't HAVE to do it. But they made a point, in this 3 hours of complicated storytelling, to give a quiet, subtle moment to something that meant a lot to them. Could have gone elsewhere. It went to this.
Final THE TWO TOWERS thoughts. The Legolas/Gimli bromance is one of the all time greats. Sean Astin probably should have gotten an Oscar nomination. And damn if these special effects don't continue to hold the fuck up. Getting stoned and diving into THE RETURN OF THE KING now.
Recording TOMORROW so this is your last chance to try and influence
