Whether Käärijä wins or doesn't win
#eurovision
isn't important to a bigger point out there.
Yle have sent a message to SVT. No longer are you the big fish in the pond, no longer the masters of the game.
Anything you can do we can do better.
Done some quick maths
If we had the 60/40 televote/jury split that
@NRKmgp
had proposed for
#eurovision
, the final results would have been
🥇Croatia, 715.5 pts
🥈Switzerland, 704 pts
🥉Ukraine, 606.5 pts
Loreen - Tattoo
BPM: 150
There are Euphoria elements. The way the song starts, the way it builds, the way the chorus absolutely destroys and the production blows EVERYTHING away. I hear Cazzi and Jimmie Joker and just wow. My
#melfest
no.1
Sounds like: We need to prebook Globen
A clip!? We get a clip of Qami Qami?!?!
I am fed up of this, it would be the PERFECT prize to allow the JESC winner to perform her song at a
#eurovision
semi final.
Qami Qami would be better than that DJ interval act by a country mile. Still one of the songs of the season.
Käärijä
Dancers from first chorus, dancing is spot on the I-need-a-drink theme. Breaks into pink for turbo pop section and Käärijä has this genius,
#umk23
televote-winning, goofy grin across his face with iconic dance moves. Confetti curtain and voice effects work fine here
#umk
I've always been cautious to producer led running orders because, when you place a country in a running order position, that can symbolise what you think about that country/delegation/broadcaster etc, as much as the song/artist.
You wanted more power Björkman, well here you are.
The
#umk23
Rehearsal Poll:
Käärijä: 201
Benjamin: 60
Kuumaa: 34
Robin: 31
Portion Boys: 26
Keira: 19
Lxandra: 3
Kuumaa won the fake voting and as such they performed twice
Dotter: 110 bpm. Big electronic production. Epic sounds. Certainly more edgy than Bulletproof, not quite Statements levels but that's my reference point. Post-chorus very catchy. Her fans will stan this hard, and its worthy of that, but less accessible than last year
#melfest
The most important thing about Cornelia winning
#melfest
is the huge change in direction this will inspire Sweden's selection to be in the future.
The Karin era could have had no better winner to inspire a different breed of artists to want to take part in Melodifestivalen.
This boy doesn't realise how lucky he is, his fourth
#Eurovision
contest in person!
Dressed in orange to cheer on the Netherlands, but Ukraine and UK also high on his
#jesc2023
wish list.
#BenidormFest2023
Press Poll: Final
Blanca Paloma: 65 (SIXTY FIVE)
Vicco: 8
Agoney: 6
Karmento: 3
All others zero.
Journalists boarding the official buses from the hotel to the arena were asked who they want to win
#benidormfest
tonight
Good and bad things about Sweden winning
#eurovision
7 times
Good
- Sweden host cheap, good contests with a “come together” mentality
- Tattoo likely to chart very well worldwide
- Irish media narrative may force change of direction there
- Loreen’s history breaking legacy
Warning for all
#FiK61
viewers. Albania using a televote to choose their
#eurovision
act is a huge leap into the unknown. This is, after all, the country that gave 12 televote points to 'Intention' in Turin.
In 2016 two weeks before
#eurovision
I was offered 500 free tickets for my school to attend the Semi Final One family show in Globen.
The arena was I'd say 1/4 full.
That equivalent show has now sold out, unless you buy £210 hospitality tickets.
Different world today....
Omar Rudberg: Moving Like That
BPM: 106
#melfest
A summer vibe with vague Latin instrumentation. Huge Spotify potential. A gentle toe-tapper - no obvious huge vocals, but again some time for dance
Sounds like: Cross between Vamos Amigos and Feel Da Rush (MGP), in Omar style
@Eurovision
Science teacher here. I assume it was wine in the glass that broke, no? And not-alcohol free wine at that. Alcohol is a drug and I'd expect all my students to know that. Now, I know you mean harder drugs than alcohol, but making that statement in my class would lower your grade
Listening to the songs for second time.
I even changed headphones, just to make sure before I write this.
To
#eurovision
fans reading this, I'd probably recommend you to tune in to one of the other NFs this weekend rather than
#melfest
. Come back here for heat 4.
The people at the Spanish broadcaster RTVE and Visit Benidorm have funded fifteen journalists from across Europe to work at Spain's Song for Europe competition.
I'm one of them.
I believe today is when the
#eurovision
jury/televote split is being discussed by the Head of Delegations.
We know Norway's proposing making it more weighted to the televote.
If this is in reaction to the outcome of 2023, that would be an overreaction
Laurell - Sober
BPM: 118
I've been speechless for two minutes thirty at this 43 year old trying desperately to sounds like a 23 year old.
And then comes ANOTHER BLOODY KEY CHANGE.
Sounds like: Margaret was offered to come back to
#melfest
and said no
Song 7: Klara Hammarström - Run To The Hills
BPM: 136
Such a folk melody, but the beat kicks in and I'm dancing a good old Celtic jig! This is a really fun number and looking forward to spinning around to this at
@MelfestWKND
Sounds like: If Timoteij sang in English
Ukraine, as winners, are the default Plan A to host.
We all know the challenges, as does everybody in Ukraine.
Yet many of you in the
#eurovision
community completely dismiss that, and are demanding denying the hosting opportunity even now, 11 months away.
Supposedly, Adam Woods was a student at the school I used to teach at. I find this out by hearing a "Mr. Robertson" bellowed across the press room from his table.
No I do not remember him as a child sadly
Ironic that when the EBU continues to reduce press access both to see rehearsals on the
#eurovision
and
#jesc
stage and use a suitable working environment, that SVT have decided to reverse their decision and allow press access from first
#melfest
rehearsals once again.
I went to the
#eurovision
village tonight and while there are food trucks and sponsors stalls dotted around I do need to get on my high horse and grumble that the Discover Ukraine section was stuck in the back corner.
It is beautiful
The planning has started!
@bbceurovision
and Liverpool 2023 is going to be tough to follow, but Sweden's
@svt
has accepted the challenge.

Medina, Que Sera
BPM: 130
Full, sing-a-long song which I'm singing along from the second chorus. KEY CHANGE.
I am imagine the crowd in Malmö going bonkers in May to this one. Can we dream of a Swedish
#melfest
winner?
Sounds like: Theme music for the next FIFA World Cup
Marcus & Martinus, Unforgettable
BPM: 116
This is an odd one. Production is pop perfection stunning but given
#melfest
favourite status I can't pin this down as the one. Does feel more music video than performance, needs a concept.
Sounds like: Bluffin, Air and Every Minute
This is an all time low for
#melfest
.
17 minutes after the snippets came out and no one is talking about any of the songs on Twitter.
Even the official Melfest discord page has one solitary comment.
Song 1: Anna Bergendahl - Higher Power
BPM: 114
More country, but in the same
#melfest
genre as other entries for sure. Almost like a movie scene, particularly the atmospheric introduction. Harder to dance to this than Kingdom Come.
Sounds like: Hope (Estonia 2022)
A concern for Loreen at
#melfest
There is a good two minutes needed to get stage ready BEFORE the postcard starts.
Will the same staging be allowed at
#eurovision
?
Jacqline, Effortless
BPM: 100
Hot, sexy, powerful and with a killer bassline. The most modern song in
#melfest
this season. And a smashing chorus, proper pop package in this one. GREAT OPENER!
Sounds like: Dua Lipa's next single
@wthisteya
Nothing to be sad over. It did work. Look at the new fans you got, the memes you inspired and the serious points about songwriting to be discussed for years to come. Plus it’s a bop. The Eurovision community will never forget and will welcome you with joy for eternity
LIAMOO, Dragon
BPM: 96
Wow LIAMOO's vocals on this are MEGA! Great power and falsetto. Slow verse is contrasted by a powerful chorus and huge percussion in post-chorus. Tattoo-esque bridge with cultural flavour
Sounds like: Liamoo aiming for the
#melfest
jury vote.
Jon Henrik Fjällgren, Arc North feat. Adam Woods - Where You Are (Sávežan)
BPM: 124
Maybe the EDM sound is a bit
#melfest
2016 but the blend with the jolk is perfect. JHF's strongest melody and the combo can hit jury + televote
Sounds like: A
#Eurovision
winner. Did I say that?
"The other 36 competing Eurovision artists will see the issue of Israeli participation cloud their Eurovision experience, overshadowing their journey, leaving them needing to find words to express their feelings in ways that few others on our planet are required to."
Israel will take part in the Eurovision Song Contest 2024, despite numerous protests against its participation due to the destruction taking place in Gaza. How is this clouding the
#Eurovision
experience of the other 36 artists in our Song Contest?
Jere Pöyhönen, better known as rapper

Info for non-Swedes: We have had high terror levels since August 2023, and major events and concerts have had strict rules (for example no bags, and press bags were searched individually at Melfest)
Sweden is nervous for terror atm regardless of who participates at

Benjamin
Almost all in the dark except for single spotlight on Benjamin at
#umk
as he spins on a turntable, writhes on the floor and is joined by a seductive dancer for the final chorus. Would like him to sing the big chorus note rather than backing track, but good
#umk23
Am I the only one thinking the Friends Arena / Taylor Swift news is a non-issue. 5 days turnaround sounds fine and if they are going to close the arena for football then this just maximises potential profits of doing so. May or may not be Stockholm but don't think this is drama.
Sara Siipola, Paskana
Beautiful. Dancers on stage in black but never seen, they only help to move the sole light source around Sara. More light comes through the crescendo and there should be a Marcel Bezençon for staging at
#eurovision
, possibly the best I've ever seen
#umk2024
Re: BBC News-gate
1) It's a poor article
2) It's NOTHING to do with the show production
3) Those abroad getting offended need to learn about editorial independence
4) You think this is bad, then my goodness grab your popcorn now for what happens if Sweden hosts next year
Word of warning for anybody following
#eurovision
rehearsals today and following any market moves for the rest of this week.
If last year is anything to go by, there will be an overreaction to photographs if this world of the closed rehearsal, évidemment
Euphoria was 2nd, Statements was 3rd
Considering she will be trapped in a sandwich press for about 90 seconds I’m not convinced the in-arena audience will get it.
Any top 2 result tonight is absolutely fine, no drama.
Re: Reform of jury/televote situation, I think most reactions are, well, reactionary. As a general rule jury votes are worth less than 50% as they tend to have more variance than televoting, the Loreen landslide we saw is something mathematically quite rare.
Robin Packalen
Genius staging like only
#umk
can deliver!
In the middle of Robin’s blocks is a trampoline and he uses it from the end of the first verse. Big surprise! Won over quite a few here with his double tuck tumble in the bridge too. Vocally flawless.
#UMK23
Semifinal changes to
#melfest
are stupid, but not because it is everyone vs. everyone.
It is because half way through the voting they will reveal which songs would qualify if voting closed now.
Terrible manipulation of the public choice in a way to just get public engagement
Bad
- SVT unlikely to re-format nor overly evaluate Melfest with much to do
- Fans are divided by the jury/televote outcomes + Sweden’snjury score
- Can be expensive to attend
"When it was announced that a Producer's Choice option was being announced this year, Christer Björkman is quoted as saying that it would "make an even more thrilling Grand Final."
"Thrilling it will now definitely be. So much so that the fate of the Song Contest depends on it."
Eric Saade: Way dirtier production than his other stuff. The chorus 'oh na na' has a vocoder and there's a very middle Eastern effect in the post chorus. As a song alone I can't see this coming close to the winning it all, but Eric has staging and charisma to add in too
#melfest
I was at
#UMK
2017. I thought the format was dead. They tried internal artist selections but they didn't push careers further
Look at it now. Regardless of results at
#Eurovision
these 7 songs are prime examples of their genres. Standing ovation from me.
#melfest
2023
30 songs, 5 heats
Top two direct to the final
3rd/4th to run off immediately after the 5th heat (so no Andra Chansen)
50/50 public/international jury for the final
Aim is to keep the excitement up throughout the season
Seeing some comments about the OGAE SCC results that infuriate me.
OGAE is a membership organisation for
#eurovision
fans. It isn’t an organisation of others, it is an organisation of us - our community.
Don’t like the results - join and be the change next year!
Österdahl: "We are past what we can tolerate now. Artists shouldn't feel afraid of expressing their artform because there's a conflict somewhere else in the world that they have nothing to do with. It's absolutely absurd"
Well said Österdahl 👏👏👏
Great translation
@vDanDesign
Martin Österdahl just did a big interview with Dagens Industri/DI, talking about the situation with
#Eurovision
and Israel, Russia and his career which got him to where he is today. I translated it.
(1/2)
Israel's participation was wrong, at least with this song this year. As soon as you disqualify 'October Rain' any rewrite of that song will stink of that and still be so political that it will rile up a farcical 300+ point televote. Any new song should have started from scratch.
I'm going to enjoy the summer without a Song Contest and see where life takes me thereafter.
I think many of us should do the same. Thankfully the result on Saturday avoided the Song Contest's funeral (just our bank accounts), and some distance I think will do us all some good.
Liamoo - Bluffin'
BPM: 120
Huge Spotify hit potential, quiet start that builds with lovely secure falsetto. The chorus misses the oomph but the post-chorus (with a vocal effect) is cool.
Sounds like: Cross between Shout It Out (
#melfest
2012) and Every Minute (Eric Saade)
🇸🇪 Melodifestivalen 2023 Finalists React to Eurovision 2023

Maria Sur, When I’m Gone
BPM: 128
Cool futuristic dark pop song, some great quick vocals and belt notes. I'm wanting a touch more from the drop when it comes though, but it gets there finally by the last chorus! Great
#melfest
opener
Sounds like: A female version of Bluffin'
Charlotte Perrelli: 132 bpm. I'm getting ABBA vibes early, mixed with Carola's Invincible. I'd personally like something a bit more danceable for EuroClub, but if liked Something In Your Eyes this will be for you. Bridge is nice but I don't think a key change. Sad face.
#melfest
Dotter, INE2WALS
BPM: 74
Definite Dotter sound, piano starts before there's strings and a gentle beat appears.
She's spoken about the importance of lyrics and that's the focus here - classical ballad.
Sounds like: If Dotter covered Let There Be Angels
#melfest
2022.
Dear Gods of Schlager
Sorry that our Sweden has failed you. For 4 weeks have our songs underwhelmed, our voting been undaring and our odds plummeted to new lows.
Today You give a final chance to redeem ourselves. Today at 10:00 CET all we pray for is one ESC contender
Amen
SVT got everything they wanted from tonight's show:
- Internal scandal to get the show front page in the Sunday papers
- Qualifier that signifies the post-Christer era of
#melfest
- Theoz to Semi Final so that can be released tonight and go huge in the preschools
Should reveal there was an ulterior motive to this poll.
I shocked the
#melfest
team when I informed them I would like someone else to take my spot in the press room. Why? Because I’ll be travelling to Turku this weekend for
#UMK
instead!
And I agree, the best NF of the year
Which
#eurovision
national final is the best this year?
If not any of these four (Sanremo isn’t an NF in that sense) write in the comments what you think.
Robin Bengtsson: Innocent Love
BPM: 170 (!)
Arena pop rock was an accurate description. High tempo helps this come across and is a huge toe-tapper - immediate impact and made for Globen. Was that a key change?

I have a theory on Joost Klein's
#eurovision

It's not pretty, it's likely wrong, but given the events of the last 48 hours I can't unthink it
