on may 7 2015, former lib dem leader charles kennedy lost his seat to the snp. 4 weeks later he sadly passed away due to medical effects of alcoholism. just over 9 years later the lib dems have won the most seats in 100 years and have regained his seat. this is for you charlie.
if only you had the power to build, idk a high speed rail line. you’d need a job like, maybe the secretary of state for transport or something. idk i think that’d be helpful
there were people worried it would set a precedent of other parts of the empire gaining the full rights of british citizens. wish we’d actually pursued full rights for any colony which wanted to stay british
Sir Ed Davey says of the Lib Dems "we are the most pro-European party in British politics". I imagine the Green Party may have something to say about that...
cry me a fucking river we colonised a quarter of the world, having a large population of immigrants is a consequence of that. you can’t masquerade as a patriot if you subscribe to ethnonationalism despite the country being founded as a multi-ethnic kingdom
Well… now the general elections finished, i’m delighted to be able to announce i’ll be standing as the liberal democrats candidate for pype hayes for birmingham city council. i’ll be working tirelessly for the next 2 years to improve pype hayes.
@brumlibdems
Here's a quick housing win for Labour.
Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy has the power to approve 97 mid-rise homes and a hotel on top of Hampton Court train station.
The Planning Inspectorate have recommened approval.
My benchmarks:
<40 - disappointing night
40-49 - about expectations
50-62 - good night
63-69 - fantastic night
>=70 - absolutely unbelievable, knight ed again. sir sir ed davey
For all the faults of the empire, its lasting legacy of integration of different cultures is massively impressive. Anyone can succeed in britain. that’s something to be proud of.
To apologise would be to say he was complicit in the scandal, which he wasn’t. He still wants compensation, he still wants it fast. A situation 13 years ago he was mislead on is not a reason to demand resignation. He was the first to actually attempt to find out anything
Sir Ed Davey has refused to apologise over his position in the Post Office scandal, despite being asked to more than ten times in an interview with ITV News'
@PaulBrandITV
the party has evolved since 2015, and i’m sure charlie would be incredibly proud of what we’re fighting for and what we’ve achieved. his legacy will always live on.
NEW:
James Cleverly, Kevin Hollingrake and Mel Stride are all likely to stand in the Conservative leadership contest.
Kemi Badenoch, Priti Patel and Robert Jenrick are all expected to stand too.

Even as a royalist, i see this as wrong. Our MPs should be swearing allegiance to the people of the united kingdom, not to the king. Clive Lewis merely exercised his right to freedom of speech, doing this only adds oxygen to republicanism.
We are pleased to see that Clive Lewis MP has been forced to retake his affirmation of allegiance following our complaint to the Clerk of the House of Commons.
MPs must not be excused from the common allegiance that binds our nation together.
The effort’s been put in, the numbers have been crunched, and here it is; the 2010 United Kingdom General Election under a completely proportional electoral system.
@TrueSlazac
200,000 members for a political party only promoting the rights of autistic people. Brazil once again proving they are the best country in the new world
This is very good. We should be doing the same in the UK. Drug use is not a crime, its a health problem, and the only way to combat it is to decriminalise and regulate drugs, and to provide safe spaces for people to be able to access drugs on their road to recovery
@TrueSlazac
inflation was way higher for ages and the economy has stagnated. they’ve also just taken the piss with the rules and conventions in our political system
this isn’t me being optimistic or wishful thinking, this is purely what are the seats we could win given an absolutely perfect realistic campaign. orkney and shetland are included in this but just are out of frame. a result like this would likely see us as the opposition.
🚨 NEW: Wes Streeting says "the Lib Dems and other parties have good ideas" on social care
"There is plenty of blame to go around but I want to have a different politics on social care"

Here it is, the eagerly anticipated map of the 2024 general election if it were held under STV.
Bear in mind, I estimated the transfers by hand, and I tried to factor in tactical voting but I'm not sure I did it very well, so that might explain some of the disproportionalities.
possibility for HUGE gains in cornwall, devon, hampshire, surrey, worcestershire, oxfordshire, wiltshire, shropshire and cambridgeshire based off of the general election. the hard work cannot stop.
Photo from friday night, you might’ve assumed John would be disappointed with the result but he was absolutely delighted with how the campaign went. We brought fun back to Sutton Coldfield. Wishing John the best of luck in whatever seat decides to take him, they won’t regret it!
Hi everyone, we’ve seen a few people expressing interest in helping us campaign in Sutton Coldfield!
If anyone is interested in helping out with canvassing or delivering then feel free to drop me a DM or email me at bensuttonnorthbrum
