A word on Tamworth. One of the big reasons they are champions: Jas Singh. No other GK (1,500+ mins) at NLN level has a higher save percentage (80%) than Singh. The xG conceded model also finds that Singh has saved his Tamworth side +12 goals compared to the average GK!

I don’t believe I can be any more disillusioned with this club. I was blocked from volunteering for DFC over the summer due to past criticism of the club’s media strategy. To see a fan raise perfectly valid criticism & then be reported to his employer for doing so is v poor.

People have short memories. During 22/23, for the high balls Taylor did command his area for, he did so successfully at a rate of 92.59%, which sat within the top 30% of goalkeepers at this level. An average GK costs you goals at this level. That isn’t him.

Those criticising Tommy Taylor need to have a look at themselves. Taylor has been a good GK for us for 100+ games. A player - highly likely - low on confidence after being managed horrifically by a manager that has now won 2 in 13. Scapegoat for a terrible manager.

Jacob Hazel is doing all of the right things. Almost 90% of his chances inside of the box were on target. Some fine goalkeeping has denied him recently. Half of the battle is getting in to these positions, the other is getting them on target. Only a matter of time……

Cedric Main is a creative machine. Strikers are judged on goals, yes, but don’t understate his technical ability dropping deep in to the final third. That’s 5 league assists for him this season with Blyth + Darlo to go with his 8 goals in 2,100 minutes:

Huge mistake, this. Whatever your opinion on Jacob Hazel, there are not many better in the penalty box at this level than him in terms of movement & finishing. 35 G/A in 67 appearances. Another senior professional badly managed by the current manager.

In Cornish (4 assists) & Main (3 assists), Darlington have added two creative players in the final third that carry a goal-threat to compliment sheer physical profiles in Salkeld & Nelson & very good movement/instinct in Curry. Chance creation has increased 70% under Watson!

This isn’t an over-reaction, but we are witnessing the strongest Darlo squad since 16/17. A squad of attacking talent (Felix, Beck, Hazel, Lambert) and proper experienced heads in there (Taylor, Lawlor, Wheater, Rose, Purver, Moke etc). Let’s enjoy the ride whilst we can. 🎢
